Broad gave his hand a good, long stare after that drop. There was no look towards the bowler Ansari. To his credit, Ansari didn't let off the sort of cry that Broad might have done. I wonder if the chance of victory has now gone the way of those spilled catches. There are 20 minutes to go until tea.

Broad thought it was going to carry to him more easily and get to him around knee high. Should have been taken.

  3. dropped catch

Pujara dropped on 10published at 08:18 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2016

    Ind 31-1

Dropped another! England have only 49 overs to take 10 wickets and have now dropped two catches in the first 11. It's an awful stroke from Che Pujara, a loose drive that slides off the face and loops towards Stuart Broad at point. Broad goes down like a sack of spuds and can't hang on. Should have been taken.

I'm afraid everyone appears to be missing the bigger picture here. Hameed's success for England will, undoubtedly, spell certain relegation for Lancashire next season.

Spin at both ends. Moeen Ali replaces Woakes to twirl his offies. Oohs and aahs every time a home batsman defends, as if England have been taking grunting lessons from Shane Warne. I've seen a replay of that Ansari drop. Even watching it is enough to make your finger hurt.

England will be quite happy if Vijay comes attacking but that could have broken a finger because Ansari was late on it.

  7. dropped catch

    Ind 26-1

Dropped! Zafar Ansari spills a very tough return chance off Murali Vijay, the ball absolutely pummeled back to him. It hit the index finger on his right hand and bounced away for four. Ansari, remember, has had real trouble with his thumb after suffering an injury trying to take a return catch.

Pujara is like a horse running between the wickets, but it is a carthorse not a race horse.

    Eng need 9 wickets

Just waking up? England have set India 310 to win in 49 overs. More realistically, the tourists need 10 wickets. Chris Woakes already has one of them. Alastair Cook made 130 and Haseeb Hameed 82 before England declared. Woakes again, still banging it in. Not quite the same threat. Time for a change?

I really think Hameed should be excused short leg duty. He is too precious!

    Target 310

If they don't find you a train, do you keep your feet up all day. Sounds like a cushy gig to me (I'm aware that, as a man who watches sport for a living, I'm not really in a position to comment). England turn to spin, the aforementioned Zafar Ansari. See-saw action, full length, driven for four by Pujara.

Ben Duckett is a thick-set chap. Square-headed, he's got a touch of a Lego man about him. He's at point as Chris Woakes slips in, just finding a touch of uneven bounce. Zafar Ansari is bleeding from the elbow after diving on the hard, dry ground. Protective bandages, Zafar. I thought you were a clever lad?

Sometimes it's not a bad thing if they get a thick edge for four because it might tempt them to play an attacking shot to the next one and lead to a false shot.

This is better from Vijay, reaching out to drive a full ball from Broad through point for four. A frustrated Broad bangs one in, with Vijay able to ride the bounce and guide to third man. Steam seen rising from Broad's ears. India fans find their voice. Good stuff, this.

India aren't looking like scoring a run. The shops are shut in Rajkot. England are banging on the shutters. Did you ever see Wayne's World II? Where Del Preston had to break into a sweet shop in Sri Lanka? It's like that. Finally, Pujara drives Woakes for four. If you haven't seen the snakes chasing the baby iguana, here it is. Just watch it. Incredible.

England have bowled better, they have fielded batter. Batting has just about been on a par up to now. If England nip another couple out India are in difficulties because that's when the jitters start in the dressing room. It's all about these first few overs.

    Eng need 9 wickets

Hello, are there a few jitters running through the India batting line-up? Broad bangs one in and has Vijay hiding behind the bat handle. Vijay tries to chew his gum with nonchalance, but he's not fooling anyone. England smell something here. They are the snakes, India are the baby iguana. That reminds me, Planet Earth II is on again tonight.

I think it is misleading when you say a 'target' of 310. You won't get these even if you had Sachin Tendulkar!
