Ross Taylor hit an unbeaten 102 as New Zealand pressed for their first Test series victory over Pakistan since 1985.
Pakistan were set 369 to win - it would be their second highest fourth-innings chase - reaching 1-0 in the three overs possible late on day four in the second Test in Hamilton.
Tom Latham made 80, captain Kane Willaimson 42 and Colin de Grandhomme 32 off 21 balls as New Zealand, who lead 1-0 in the series, declared on 313-5.

I'm a bit mystified as to why Moeen is bowling so little. He's almost become a part-timer. It's partly down to how well Rashid has bowled.

When India are in the field, they give their fast bowlers the ball and they have a licence to charge in. When England are in the field, their fast bowlers have to keep it tight - the role India's spinners do. There's a different mentality.

Rashid gets through the final over of the morning, striking Yadav on the pad but again its high. Bairstow whips the bails off, knocking a stump out of the ground in the process. That will be lunch, and time for a much-needed sit down for England, who are trudging off the field.

There it is, the delivery that will make England's batsmen panic. Batty gets one to stay low, horribly low, and Jayant does well to get the toe of his bat on it and push it away from the stumps. Another good over from Batty, not giving India anything to hit.

Jayant 25, Jadeja 69
A polite round of applause from the dressing room as Jayant scrambles a single to bring up the 50 partnership. Bairstow then does his best to convince Umpire Erasmus to give him an lbw decision. "Yes, it's high and going down, Marius, but please. Go on." The umpire is unmoved. Bairstow is trying to gee his teammates up, but the prospect of an afternoon in the field is presumably high in their minds.

India will have wanted to get to lunch. They might set themselves then come out after the break and give it a bit more long handle.

Jadeja turns Batty around the corner to move to his highest Test score. It's been an impressive innings so far, a nice mixture of composure but with some flair to hammer the bad balls away. Batty finds some extra bounce towards the end of the over, but it's negotiated by Jayant.
Another tidy over from Rashid, with Jadeja nudging a single from the first over. It's not turning at all. Rashid tries everything - a bit of speed, a bit of flight - but there's nothing happening for him.

Gareth Batty has been brought in from the cold. Cook has to practically wrestle the ball away from Stokes, who has had a fine stint of eight consecutive overs this morning, and throws it to Batty. It's staying very low for Batty and twice he comes close to sneaking through Jayant's defences. A tidy over after his struggles yesterday.

The only consolation for England is the fact that the ball doesn't seem to be doing anything. They will think there is no reason why they can't get runs.

Overthrows. That won't help things. Jadeja took a risky single and substitute Jake Ball had a shy at the stumps, but there was no-one backing up and the ball went racing away to the boundary rope. Not only is it irritating, it releases the pressure that England have been painstakingly trying to build. Seven from the over.

Jayant 22, Jadeja 60
There's a man in the crowd with a trombone. The bloke next to him, who is currently engrossed in his paper, could be in for a shock the next time someone hits a boundary. Stokes continues drying up the runs, hugging Jadeja's off stump, but a quick single ensures India nab something from the over.
