  1. Thank you and goodbyepublished at 10:57 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

So, England are 2-0 down. India have not lost their last 17 Tests at home. And Hameed's going home to get his hand sorted. It's fair to say it's not going to plan.

Can they turn it around in Mumbai? We'll be back next Thursday to guide you through it. In a bit!

  2. 'Fingers crossed' that Broad is fitpublished at 10:55 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

England coach Trevor Bayliss on Hameed's replacement for the fourth Test: "We've got to get together as selectors. We'll be discussing that over the next 24 hours."

On Stuart Broad's chances of being for for Mumbai: "Fingers crossed. Nothing is for certain. We'll look at that a little bit more closely nearer the match."

  4. 'We gifted India wickets'published at 10:52 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

England coach Trevor Bayliss on Sky Sports: "The toss went our way but that doesn't guarantee success. You have to bat well and we didn't bat well. I thought we gifted them a few wickets and we didn't make them work hard enough.

"I thought this was the easiest wicket to bat on. The first two had good bounce and spin. We thought the wicket would spin a lot more than it did. If anything, it got a lot more placid."

  6. Can England avoid a 4-0 series defeat?published at 10:48 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

Mentally it's going to be a challenge. When you're 2-0 down and you can only draw, it's always a challenge.

The one thing in their advantage - the one thing they can grab at - is they're playing the fourth Test in Mumbai. The last two times they've been there, England have won the Test.

But Virat Kohli is trying to build something with India. They've given England a real hammering here. Virat will be in that dressing room saying, 'we're playing OK, but there's still improvement'.

  8. 'Hameed wanted to play in the last two Tests'published at 10:46 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

England coach Trevor Bayliss speaking about Haseeb Hameed: "He keeps amazing everyone who's working with him. It was a fantastic effort. It's another plus in his corner. Not only can he play but he's tough little character too. It was a gutsy effort.

"He wasn't showing too much pain. The medical staff probably knew it was cracked - they didn't want to distract him.

"He wanted to bat. He wants to stay here and play in the last two Test matches. He wants to tape it up and play."

  9. Hameed showed 'huge amount of courage'published at 10:42 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    Michael Vaughan

He showed a huge amount of courage. He'll be around the England side next summer. I would think as soon as he's fit and raring to go, he'll be in the team. Nick Gubbins and Keaton Jennings - those two would be the most likely to come in.

  10. 'We weren't going to tell India it was a broken hand'published at 10:40 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

England captain Alastair Cook on Haseeb Hameed's injury: "It's terrible luck on the young kid. It's devastating for him. He'll come back again. To change his grip so he doesn't use that part of his hand shows how good he is."

On how England handled news of his injury: "I wouldn't have changed anything. It was handled absolutely fine. It's a broken hand - we knew pretty much straightaway. We weren't going to tell India it was a broken hand.

"We knew it was sore; he knew it was sore. He wanted to bat - he's desperate. You can't hold guys like that back."

  11. 'One step forward, two back'published at 10:38 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

Sometimes it looks like England have taken a step forward - and sometimes a giant step - but then they take two back.

Alastair Cook is England's leading run-scorer in Test history. Joe Root could be the greatest player England have ever had. Jonny Bairstow has the most runs and the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in a calendar year. Ben Stokes is the best all-rounder since Andrew Flintoff.

But England aren't producing good enough performances. I expect more consistency from this side. It frustrates me that we get performances like this.

Robert Allen: It was always going to be a tough series. Hameed, Rashid, Stokes and Bairstow have all performed very well.

  13. 'We weren't good enough'published at 10:35 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

England captain Alastair Cook on Sky Sports: "We weren't good enough with the bat. You don't win many games of cricket here when you don't get 400. We fought back and if we had bowled them out for 300, then you never know."

On the poor strokes in the first innings: "You live and die by a certain way you want to play. I'd rather Moeen and Jos play that way because that's their best way of playing."

  17. 'The seamers have been standing out'published at 10:28 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

Virat Kohli on his seam bowlers, who took seven wickets between them in the match: "The seamers have been standing out every game and they have rushed their batsmen, pushing them on the back foot, intimidating them. That's really pleasing to see as a captain.

"It's been a complete effort. We're in a good space. We'll keep things simple and enjoy this little break we've got now."

  18. 'England need to look in the mirror'published at 10:26 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

I don't think England have read the conditions well this week. They possibly thought 300-325 would be a competitive score. They need a message to go to the dressing room to say 'this is flat, we need plenty'.

They need to look in the mirror and ask: 'Why? Why does it keep happening?' There is something not right in the mentality in the dressing room.

  19. 'Cheer after losing the toss motivated us'published at 10:24 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

India captain Virat Kohli: "None of the pitches have been turners - we are just playing very good cricket. Getting them out for 280 was a great boost for us having lost the toss.

"I was surprised by the cheer after the toss because you've still got to play, and that motivated us actually."
