  1. 'India outplayed us'published at 10:21 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

England captain Alastair Cook: "To get bowled out for 280 in the first innings, we knew we were behind the eight ball. We had a little bit of a sniff at 200-6, but credit to their lower order.

"It's been a frustrating four days. Credit to India - they outplayed us. We've got a few days off to go our separate ways."

  2. Jadeja named man of the matchpublished at 10:19 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

Ravindra Jadeja, who made 90 and took 2-62, is the man of the match.

"I'm very pleased with my performance with the bat. I was taking my time and I knew with time I could make good runs. I was looking to play as long as I can," he said.

"I was thinking about if I want to take a chance I can take it against the spinners. It's a very good wicket for batting.

"I was looking to bowl in the right areas and not give them easy boundaries."

England captain Alastair Cook on Haseeb Hameed: "Unfortunately he has got to go home. It's a real shame. To play like that is testament to his courage and bravery."

England captain Alastair Cook confirms that Haseeb Hameed will return home to have a plate put in his hand.

  5. 'The belief was tremendous'published at 10:13 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin, who made 72 in India's first innings and took 3-81 in the England second innings, says: "We were in a bit of bother on the second day but the belief in the dressing was tremendous. We always back the lower order.

"I thought we got the wickets through pressure, we were bowling very well in pairs."

This was a week where the gulf in class of these two teams, on these style of pitches, was evident. I thought England played a little bit too aggressively. When they realised it was a good batting surface, they should have realised they need to bat long. Six or seven of the dismissals on day one was down to poor thinking.

The thought that no individual has got a hundred on this surface is very bizarre. The bowling has been good on both sides.

  9. 'Chasing 100 suits my game'published at 10:08 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

India's Parthiv Patel, who made 42 and 67 not out in his first Test for eight years: "I was very nervous before the Test match started - I played it in my mind five or six times.

"I'm glad we won the Test. When you're chasing 100 it suits my game. The wicket was pretty flat and I was just trying to back myself."

On Ravichandran Ashwin, who claimed three key wickets on the third evening: "He was brilliant; he was varying his pace. There wasn't much help from the wicket so to deceive them in the flight was brilliant."

There are positives for England. Haseeb Hameed was a genuine pleasure to watch, a really mature knock carried out by a 19-year-old with an injured finger.  Adil Rashid carried on his good form, taking 4-118 and 1-28, but England will rue their first innings. They won the toss and then squandered it.

So many positives for England in this tough series. Our best bowlers (check series stats) have been on a par with theirs in their backyard, Root, Bairstow, Hameed and Stokes great with bat. We bossed the first Test, lost one session in the second, then squandered the toss in this. Don't forget that India are extremely competent at home! But IF England can regroup with this welcome break and put together a team performance they can win Tests here.

England were just not good enough on the first day, that's where it was lost. The pitch was perfect for batting. You've got to bat for 140 overs and score 400. 283 was about 150-175 below par.

Parthiv Patel, playing in his first Test for eight years, finishes on 67 not out. It's been a brilliant all-round effort from India. Another superb innings from Kohli, the bowlers helping India out with the bat, before Ashwin took 3-81 and Mohammed Shami's outstanding spell of fast bowling brought an end to England's second innings.

There can be no excuses about the toss. They won it here and they messed it up. And I'm afraid if you want to look at what went wrong in this Test match, you just rewind to lunch on the first day and look at the score.

There it is! Parthiv Patel hits Gareth Batty through cover, away to the boundary. A well deserved eight wicket win for India. Handshakes all ronud between the two batsmen and the England fielders, as Parthiv nabs a stump out of the ground. They take a 2-0 series lead.

  19. Ind 100-2published at 20 overs

    Kohli 6, Parthiv 63

Four more for Parthiv, who has put in a fine performance throughout the Test. Rashid tosses it up and it's so easy for Parthiv to dance down the pitch and thump the ball over mid-wicket. These two are running as quickly as they can, turning a one into a two. Just three more needed.
