  1. Eng 81-5published at 41 overs

Runs! Two of them! Root tickles Umesh fine for a couple to get England's morning underway. Umesh doesn't like that, angling the ball into Root's stumps but Root nabs a single. Buttler shadow bats for a few seconds before defending his final few deliveries from Umesh.

Still we wait on Haseeb Hameed's fitness. It's Jos Buttler to bat at seven. He blocks everything back down the pitch to Jadeja, and that's a wicket maiden to get Jadeja's day underway.

It's a good move from Kohli to use Jadeja to the right-handers. It's difficult for the tailenders to cope with his pace. It's been a difficult game for Batty.

    WICKETpublished at 39.2 overs

Batty lbw Jadeja 0 (Eng 78-5)

Eighth ball of the day, and it's claimed a wicket. Off Gareth Batty must go. Jadeja took the second over, Batty leaned forward and the ball struck him on the pad. There was a slight thunk of wood, but Batty had the bat and pad close together, and Joe Root wisely advised against using a review.

  6. Eng 78-4published at 39 overs

    Root 36, Batty 0

Umesh Yadav has the ball in hand, facing Joe Root. Just the one slip in place as Root meets the first delivery of the day with a straight bat. Shami's first ball is 87mph and it only gets quicker from then on. Root, a little hurried, defends, to the strains of the Barmy Army's favourite tune drifting across from the stands.

It was very naive of England to arrive here to face Ashwin with so many left-handers in the squad.

India are out, led by Virat Kohli who is genuinely clapping his hands in excitement. His opposite number Alastair Cook remains in the dressing room, rubbing a hand over his face as Joe Root and nightwatchman Gareth Batty make their way out to the middle.

  9. England 'not good enough'published at 03:57 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    Michael Vaughan

In the last 21 innings, England have passed 400 only six times. With the amount of talent in that dressing room and the skill level they have, that's not good enough.

  10. 'Moeen's in a no win situation'published at 03:55 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

Moeen Ali played a shocker of a shot yesterday during as England's top order once again fluffed their lines.

"Moeen Ali danced down with one intention - to hit the ball in the air," said Michael Vaughan.

"Ashwin saw him and changed his pace a little bit. It was beautiful bowling, a pathetic shot."

However Phil Tufnell felt a little differently about things.

Ashwin was outstanding. He has this ability to vary his flight and make the ball dip. Batsmen get out when not because of spin but because they misjudge the length.

  14. Will Hameed bat?published at 03:49 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

Haseeb Hameed has spent the last two days in the dressing room after injuring his finger opening the batting.

Hameed took an initial knock during the second Test but a snorter from Mohammed Shami on the first day here has caused him more discomfort, and he has been consigned to the dressing room ever since.

He had two net sessions yesterday but it was Joe Root who accompanied Alastair Cook to the crease to open England's innings.

According to The Guardian, Hameed's tour could be coming to an end, external with a suspected broken little finger.

  15. What happened yesterday?published at 03:47 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

It has been Ravichandran Ashwin - who else? - who has ended any hopes England might have had of sneaking a win.

His 72 with the bat frustrated England, before Ravindra Jadeja took up that mantle with 90 and Yadav Jayant made 50.

Ashwin then took 3-19, including bowling Alastair Cook for 12 after two reviews, as England crumbled.

Ey up, welcome to the fourth day of the third India v England Test in Mohali.

It's not looking good for England. In fact, that's a massive understatement. Four wickets down, an injured opener, a dominant India looking to go 2-0 up in the series. It's an uphill battle of epic proportions.

Stick TMS on, keep an eye on us and enjoy the day. Well, enjoy it as much as you can if you're an England fan.
