Here's Mohammed Shami, who hit Hameed on the hand in the first innings. Take a guess at what's about to come. The first ball is full but the next couple are banged in and Hameed gets underneath them. A waft outside the off stump gets India chirping, and Hameed walks away to have a quiet word with himself. He's still on 0, not that it will bother him.

25-run lead by lunch. 100 by tea. Set India 150 to win. Two wickets before close of play. Game on. You have to dream.

Kohli has an awful lot of men on the boundary for these two. I can't really see either of them going into smash mode. I don't think Hameed has a smash mode, which I appreciate. Jadeja finishes the over with a shout against Root as the ball spins towards his pads, but there was a decent bit of bat on that. A maiden.

This partnership is going to be vital. If Hameed can drop anchor and Root can pick the ones and twos and occasional boundary, and if England can get 150 ahead, it won't be easy for India on day five.

    Hameed 0, Root 49

The Barmy Army trumpeter starts up a new tune as another aircraft flies overhead. There's a group of fairly resigned England fans sitting in the stands. Hameed, yet to get off the mark, gets into a bit of a mess trying to work Jayant through midwicket, but the leading edge drops away from the fielders.

Another sorry looking England scorecard when they're put under a bit of pressure. This team could do with a bit more fight.

If you're just joining us, the bad news is England have lost two wickets and still trail India by 26. The good news is Joe Root is still out there and he's been joined by Haseeb Hameed, who is a calm head on a set of very young shoulders.

I can't see Hameed picking out deep mid-wicket, somehow. He's happy to defend Jayant's last two deliveries. Jayant currently has 2-14 from seven overs. He's had a good game.

That's the way he plays. Buttler showed intent when he came into bat but this time he didn't quite get to the ball. It's terrific bowling from Jayant, who tossed the ball up and invited Buttler to play the big shot.

Another one gone! Jayant Yadav strikes in his first over! Buttler's eyes lit up and he tried to smash him over mid-wicket, but he didn't get enough bat on it and it was an easy catch for Jadeja in the deep. England still trail by 27 runs but, more importantly, Haseeb Hameed has walked out to bat.

That's a better over from Jadeja, complete with two big shouts for lbw against Root. The first is definitely sliding down leg; the second strikes Root as he shapes to paddle sweep. Bit of glove involved, methinks, and Kohli opts against the review.

This will be entertaining stuff. Root and Buttler have gone into one-day mode, but there's still plenty of work to do to get beyond India with a lead of any substance.

Kohli spends some time shuffling his field and Pujara gets moved three times before watching Buttler slice a boundary through third man. Umesh, not looking particularly pleased, repeats the delivery but this time Buttler can't get enough power behind it. Another quick single, both batsmen haring down to turn one run into two, rounds off the over.

Root follows Buttler's approach, taking a skip down the track, but Jadeja sees him coming and spears it in fuller, forcing him to defend. Root struggled against the spin when he first came out yesterday, going back when he should have been forward. He looks better today, getting out of his crease and greeting Jadeja with the full face of the bat.

This is one-day stuff. England have decided to put some pressure on India here.

    Butler 11, Root 44

Bit of hokey-cokeying between Buttler and Root who decide against, and then for, taking a quick single as Jadeja misfields off Umesh. This is better from England, charging down the wicket to run quick singles, before Buttler gets a little overenthusiastic and tries to pull Umesh down to the boundary. The ball just sneaks under the shot, bringing groans from behind the stumps.

I think this is the way to go, because England aren't going to draw from here. They may as well try to get 150 runs ahead of India.

That's one way to get the mark. Buttler comes shuffling down the pitch to Jadeja and launches him over the top for six. A photographer behind the boundary rope considers taking the catch, before changing his mind and taking cover. Buttler steers a leggy delivery away for three, which brings about an instant defensive field from Kohli.

England net for hours. We saw the dismissals in the first innings - it's a mental thing. There are no excuses for the way they batted on this wicket in the first innings. No amount of nets with improve that.
