Eoin Morgan either looks totally out of form or he has an amazing run of scores where every shot is timed to perfection. There's not much inbetween.

That's the 50 partnership up between Joe Root and Eoin Morgan.

Raina is not posing the same sort of threat as Chahal did. It's shots like that from Morgan which will puncture India's balloon.

    England need 148 to win

Joe Root pings away a reverse sweep for two, lovely little shot. England picking up runs in dibs and dabs and BANG! Out of nowhere Eoin Morgan frees the arms and clubs a six over mid on. Superb hitting.

  6. Eng 82-2published at 11.0 overs

    England need 148 to win

India were dead level at the same stage of their innings, but a steady flow of wickets from England cut them off in their prime. Nine overs left, England need 66.

  7. Eng 80-2published at 10.4 overs

    England need 148 to win

Joe Root squeezes a dab off his pads through a gap and comes back for two, good running in the middle. An aborted run-up from Hardik Pandya, as Ben Stokes looks longingly on from the dug-outs, and another single.

Stokes looks bored actually. The sort of cricketer who hates being out of the game.

These are the two batsmen England fans would want out there in this situation. They don't need to force the issue. They just need ones and twos and then to pick up the odd boundary. They'll also know there's a lot of power below them.

A few boundaries in that last over and England are back accelerating again. Just 72 needed from the second half of their innings. India were 75-2 at this stage, mind.

India need a breakthrough to disrupt the partnership of these two. Can Hardik Pandya be the man to find it? His first ball is short and dabbed away for a single.

Chahal is back in the attack after his two quick wickets earlier. Root advances down the wicket and drives the first ball through extra cover for four.

Then it's Morgan's time to open up his body and slog-sweep the leg spinner for a big six.

We're at the halfway stage and you feel the momentum is (just about) swinging in England's favour.

These two have batted well together on many previous occasions.

  12. Eng 63-2published at 8.4 overs

    England need 148 to win

Eoin Morgan doesn't look totally set out there, a nervous inside edge sees Joe Root scamper through for one. Plenty of batting still to come for England of course but we're in a mid-innings lull now.

The chat on TMS is all about putting on weight when you get married, something we can all attest to no doubt. England are putting on runs slower than Suresh Raina has put on the pounds but they're chasing their target steadily.

Seven an over needed from here, eight wickets in hand. Jasprit Bumrah, slapped all over the park by Sam Billings in his first over, is back. He has an appeal for lbw as he skids one into the pads of Eoin Morgan but it pitched outside leg.

India turn to Suresh Raina. He goes for five singles as England seem content in switching the strike.

Morgan would love to see this through and stay until the end. The England captain is in form, having scored 173 runs in the three ODI's against India, including that century in Cuttack. He also got an important 71 not out for Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash at the start of this month.

You can see Virat Kohli is still leaning on MS Dhoni for advice. They've been through so much together,

  16. Eng 57-2published at 7.0 overs

    England need 148 to win

Joe Root picks up a single before Eoin Morgan pops one away for two on the leg side. Steady batting from the two experienced men out there.

Playing yourself in against the spinners, where the ball is not coming on, is a completely different challenge for the batsmen.

  18. Eng 53-2published at 6.3 overs

So just 100 needed for England from 14 overs then. Easy? Not if they don't pick up the scoring rate. Parvez Rasool comes around the wicket and Eoin Morgan can't strangle a single away through the ring.

There we go, Morgan engineers some room, backing away from leg stump and lobbing one away for four. Top shot.

India's spinners have changed the game. England were cruising but now they are cagey and watchful.

  20. Eng 47-2published at 5.5 overs

Leg spin throttling the scoring rate as Joe Root takes a single and Eoin Morgan blocks a few away.
