What a fantastic slower ball. Kohli is berating himself because he understood the situation and pitch and was playing really well. Chris Jordan outfoxed him.

That's the second time Kohli's been out tonight! This time he walks off.

    Kohli c Dawson b Jordan 21 (Ind 30-1)

The lbw call doesn't cost England too many runs as a slower ball from Jordan does for Kohli. He misjudges his shot down the ground and launches the ball straight down the throat of long-on Dawson. Top work from England.

  5. Ind 30-0published at 4 overs

A sliding Joe Root chases the ball down as Kohli adds another couple to his score. Mills decives the Indian captain with a slower ball but a slight misfiield of his own bowling allows the Indian openers to run through for a single. Rahul sees off the final off with a cut down to third man for two more. Much better over for the hosts.

What a fantastic stroke that six was, breathtaking stuff.

  7. 6 runs

    Ind 25-0published at 3.3 overs

Back foot, ball fast and rising from Tymal, straight down the ground for six. Kohli is some player.

He underlines this with a follow-up four from a pull. Brilliant.

Cheating used to work for us when I was playing for the school team. I can't remember the name of the ground but it was surrounded by embankments. As the ball reached the bat one of the slip fielders would click his fingers and because of the acoustics of the ground it would sound like an edge if the batsman missed. We used to get at least two wickets that way every time we played there.

That was out. England have every reason to be unhappy about that one.

  10. Ind 15-0published at 3 overs

Chris Jordan is quickly into the attack after just the one over of Dawson's spin. Already India are starting to look frustrated. And England are fuming. They think they should have Kohli after he is caught what looks to be bang in front. No raised finger, though. Replays show it was taking leg stump to town.

Rahul claims two twos with a little pull shot down to deep backward point. England on top, though.

This has been a brilliant start from England. There's no real pace in the pitch and KL Rahul look to be guessing a little bit against Mills. India won't know what a good score is either.

  12. Ind 10-0published at 2.0 overs

The 24-year-old T20 specialist comes steaming in, Kohli takes the single and it brings Rahul on strike, who can't get away either of the next two balls. Some good variation from Mills and a solid start from England.

We saw from Mills in Kanpur that he bowls a lot of slower balls. He disguises them well, especially because the batsmen are waiting for the quicker delivery.

  14. Ind 9-0published at 1.3 overs

Tymal Mills starts round the wicket, seeking out a straight line to Kohli. He finds it as well and is unlucky as the Indian skipper's uncontrolled swoosh sends the ball high and just short of Sam Billings at third man before skipping over the rope.

Mark Fairhead: Nice to hear mention of Tong Greyhound. Road through village falls well within the arc of a six. Sat/Suns are a bit dangerous.

Liam Dawson won't rag it like Adil Rashid, he's not a big turner of the ball.

We are expecting the ball to turn, but Liam Dawson will be feeling the nerves. He doesn't have loads of international experience.

  18. Ind 5-0published at 1 over

Kohli slaps the first run of the match down the ground to long-off. Tossed up by Dawson.

Boos from the crowd as the spinner ties down Rahul following a quickly scampered two. Not the flying first over India will have wanted.

Lokesh Rahul and Virat Kohli are out in the middle, Liam Dawson has the ball in his hand.

Big crowd, big ground, big game. Here we go.

It's a very dry surface, with a sheen on top, and the ball will skid on. I think the change-up bowlers - the likes of Tymal Mills, Chris Jordan and Ashish Nehra - will do well on this pitch. Their back-of-the-hand deliveries will bounce higher and perhaps catch the batsmen by surprise.
