Barbados, an island the size of the Isle of Wight, has produced over 80 Test players. It's just phenomenal.

  2. Eng 32-1published at 9 overs

    Root 3, Hales 11

Joe Root isn't enjoying himself at the minute. He's been struck several times on the thigh pad and he chunters to himself as he plays all around a straight delivery from Jason Holder, and ends up being struck in a rather delicate area. Holder storms in, bent arms swinging, and Root settles himself behind a fuller ball.

  4. Eng 30-1published at 8 overs

A cracking over from Alzarri Joseph, who is starting to crank up his pace. He sticks out a hand to stop an Alex Hales straight drive running away and keep England to a single.

A big miss of course because Joe Root is one of the best players in the world. It was a valiant effort from Lewis but he came up short.

    Eng 29-1

Oh! Alzarri Joseph has been robbed of another wicket there. Joe Root freezes as he tries to chip the ball over square leg  but it sails towards Evin Lewis. Lewis leaps, looking a bit fish out of water, gets to it and then watches it burst through his hands. Root looked to have been beaten for pace there.

  7. Eng 29-1published at 14:00 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2017

    Holder 4-0-13-0

An almighty yell from Jason Holder, who is convinced he's got Joe Root lbw here. Root falls over himself trying to work the ball up and off his pads, but the umpire shakes his head. No dice, and hawk-eye says the ball was bouncing over. A good over, this, not a lot of pace but the ball is skidding merrily into the batsmen. Just a single.

England will be thinking of trying to get 300 but that may not be attainable.

  9. Eng 28-1published at 6 overs

Jason Roy never looked that comfortable, really, trying to get on top of the bowlers and he's ended up offering a simple catch to the imposing figure of Jason Holder. Joe Root is at number three, and he's off the mark to his first delivery.

Well done to Joseph. He's kept a pretty reasonable line and had been able to keep Roy quiet a little bit. Roy likes to free his arms but this wicket hasn't allowed him to do it. He'll be frustrated.

A wicket for Alzarri Joseph! Jason Roy goes for the big heave-ho, trying to clear the infield, and ends up smacking it straight to Jason Holder at mid-wicket. He stomps off with his bat tucked under his arm, looking thoroughly miffed.

When you see names like Hales, Roy and Buttler on the teamsheet, you know they can fire and teams will be fearful.

England are wearing black armbands today in memory of Yorkshire president John Hampshire, who passed away at the start of the month. A better over from Jason Holder, Alex Hales driving nearly all of his shots to the fielders, and England will have to settle for a couple of runs here and there.

  14. Eng 23-0published at 4 overs

    Joseph 2-0-12-0

Jason Roy helps a short ball from Alzarri Joseph away from the boundary with a hoick, looking much more comfortable, before he drives his next ball up into the air. There's been a bit of zip from Joseph but it's not quite been matched up with the line, and England nab a couple of singles.

Holder dug it in but there is no venom in his bowling at all and it just sat up.

  16. Eng 15-0published at 3 overs

    Hales 7, Roy 8

This isn't the most comfortable that Jason Roy's looked. He wants to go aerial, trying to cart Jason Holder over the infield, but the ball falls just short of the diving fielder. That's glorious from Hales though, pulled and pulled with aplomb for four. Props to the square leg umpire though, who does his best flamingo hop to get out of the way. Holder decides that short isn't a great option to Hales, and goes a bit fuller for the rest of the over.

A couple of Jason Roy's shots, he's hit on the up but he's had to check his shots. The pitch isn't as fast as maybe we thought it would be.

  18. Eng 9-0published at 2 overs

Here's our first look at Alzarri Joseph, who has some decent pace about him by all accounts. The keeper and the slips take a few steps back as he comes bounding in, Alex Hales in his sights. Hales gets off the mark with a thwacked pull that he's not entirely in control of, but he's able to turn the rest of the over safely away from his pads.

It may seem harsh on Sam Billings, but he should have got a hundred in the first ODI but he got out for 50. He's not an opening batsman, but keeping these guys busy and active around the squad with the Champions Trophy coming up is a good idea to keep them fresh.

  20. Eng 6-0published at 1 over

    Roy 6, Hales 0

Jason Roy trots forward to his first delivery and pokes it away into the covers, before he extravagantly leaves a back of a length delivery. I do like an overly dramatic leave. He then picks up the first boundary of the innings, hitting a bit uppishly but the ball flies straight past Holder and away for four runs.
