Four maidens in a row in which two wickets have fallen.

    Target 331

JP Duminy is the new man, not a player I'd back for a big innings against an off-spinner on a turning pitch.

This has been the perfect start for England. Another wicket maiden. South Africa are going nowhere and have lost both openers.

Heino Kuhn was the first to go from this excellent catch.

It was coming. You felt Elgar was going to try something but he got too close to it and couldn't get the elevation. Good catch by Moeen, it was hit quite hard. If you saw Luke Fletcher last night in the T20 it cracked him on the head with a return catch but he has been tweeting today.

    Elgar c&b Moeen 2 (SA 12-2)

Make that 23 wickets for Moeen Ali!

Elgar feels the need to put the pressure on the spinner and comes down the pitch.

He gets good contact on a drive but it's straight at Mo and the England bowler grasps the ball into his chest.

    Both openers gone!

    Target 331

    "Oooooooh."

Joe Root has his hands on his head at slip. Jimmy A is bowling well.

Amla almost drags the ball onto his own stumps but luckily for him gets a boot in the way and then the following ball keeps low but the South African keeps it out.

    Testing times.

What South Africa have to do is try and be positive. The players that have come in and played defensively have just looked like getting out. Hashim Amla always looks a peace.

Is this the game right here?

Hashim Amla is in at number three for South Africa. If they are to survive/chase this total you reckon the former skipper will have to go big.

It's a nasty start for Amla. Anderson gets one to jump from back of a length and hit the batsman on the wrists. On comes the physio...

Cheese update. Our man hasn't got a tray, but three plates. I've counted at least four knives too. He might also have a microwave in his bag.

That really was a smart catch from Bairstow. It is always difficult for a 'keeper down the leg side.

Stuart Broad had Dean Elgar out only for it to be overturned on review earlier (see below) but Joe Root is making his first change of bowling.

Moeen Ali into the attack nice and early. He beats Elgar's outside edge once as he starts with a maiden.

Tremendous work, he's having a good day, Jonny Bairstow. I thought Kuhn was looking a lot better than in the first innings but a tremendous grab.

  13. wicket

    Kuhn c Bairstow b Anderson 9 (SA 12-1)

Sorry for the commentator's curse Heino but what a catch!

Anderson tries to arrow in on the opener's pads but gets a little leg side. Kuhn gets a tickle on it and Jonny Bairstow throws himself down low to his left to scoop the ball up off the turf.

On the whole, moving up from provincial cricket to Test cricket the main difference is they bowl you fewer easy to hit balls and more that will get you out. You also have to get used to 28,000 people watching you and camera everywhere.

Kuhn may have been out for one in the first innings but he is in decent form with two centuries, including a 200 not out, for South Africa A against the Lions last month.

He is opening in place Stephen Cook who you may remember hit 115 on debut against England last year.

Since then Cook has struggled though making a best of 30 in Test series against New Zealand and Sri Lanka and also failing to hit top form for Durham in Division Two in the first part of this county season.

That's what has given Kuhn the chance and so far the 33-year-old has been solid.

  16. SA 11-0published at 5 overs

    Target 331

Kuhn is batting out of his crease to Anderson, I assume to negate the variable bounce and help him keep out the one that stays low.

Jimmy is getting a little bit of movement. First an in-dipper to Kuhn and then an outswinger to Elgar from around the wicket.

The latter had a little nibble at that one.

It's been very difficult batting in the fourth innings at Lord's recently. No scores over 250 in the last four years.

In your mind when the odd ball is keeping low you have got to be getting forward to nullify it. But it's not so easy against Broad who is a tall lad and gets you back.

  20. SA 8-0published at 4 overs

Broad shrugs his shoulders after that review as he strides back to his mark.

No breakthrough but England will be pleased to have created an opportunity.

The England seamer bowls out a maiden to keep things tight.
