It's been a tremendous day for England. Yesterday was good Test match cricket from both teams, but England have been great and South Africa have been very very poor.

"I've only played six Tests at Old Trafford, this is my seventh, and you can't get five on every ground. It would be nice to do it at my home ground but it's important that team is in a good position"

I thought Joe Root managed his bowlers as well today. It will be same again tomorrow for England. It's a big, big day for Keaton Jennings. He and Malan will know they need to have a score next to their name by tomorrow evening.
Jonny Bairstow on how he has developed as a keeper: "It was tough, getting criticised in an area of work that you hadn't necessarily been put through your paces at at county level. When you do get these rewards, from working hard and going away and finding a way in county cricket that works for you, and listening to other people, it can be really rewarding.
"It'll be an interesting pitch to keep playing on. We weren't sure if it was going to turn or not but we've seen that this evening."

Poor Hashim Amla. Not only has been sent to explain that South Africa batting, he also looks absolutely freezing.
James Anderson speaking to Test Match Special: "It was great today. We spoke about creating pressure and trying to almost be boring, with not defensive fields but bog standard fields and getting as many balls in the right area.
"I thought Moeen bowled brilliantly all day and could have got more wickets. On the whole, we were very good today."

I thought the tactics were wrong by Faf du Plessis this morning, with the field spread out to Jonny Bairstow. He tried it at The Oval and he did it again.
England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow speaking to Sky Sports: "It’s been a great day for us. Our aim was to bat for the entire first session but we came out and got wickets instead which was fantastic. There were a few expletives after I got out. I was desperately disappointed not to chalk up another hundred in Test cricket."

Bairstow grabbed the momentum today and then the key wicket of Elgar this morning made it a real good day for England. They were backed up by the fielders and the terrific support.
England go back up to the dressing room with the chant of "oh Jimmy, Jimmy Anderson" ringing around Old Trafford. South Africa still trail by 142 runs, and they'll resume tomorrow on 220-9.

That is spectacular, it really is. Stokes is in a fifth catching position, low down to his left, an inch above the ground, one-handed then a one-handed salute to say thank you. It was a good ball from Broad but there was no foot movement from Rabada.

Ben Stokes! That's such a good catch! One-handed, Stokes diving to his left in the slips, and he somehow gets his hand under it and clings on! What a way to end the day. Stokes' team-mates pile on him as they wander off the pitch. That'll be stumps.
This might be the final over of the day - although you should never trust my maths skills - and it'll be Stuart Broad to bowl it.
Morkel 17, Rabada 23
Moeen, Root and Anderson all converge on each other, before deciding that Dawid Malan will bowl a bit of leg-spin. Always the best part of a Test when you chuck on the part-timer for a bit of late evening entertainment. It's er, not quick, but it's accurate, and Rabada drives rather loosely to get off strike. Morkel also goes for an expansive drive and gets a single off the outside edge, before Rabada carves him straight back down the pitch for four! Well done umpire Dharmasena for getting out of the way of that! Excellent reflexes.
