  1. SA 96-3published at 32 overs

Moeen races through his over, with a watchful du Plessis getting forward and smothering delivery after delivery. The crowd is just starting to fill back up as people return from their post-tea stroll.

  2. SA 93-3published at 16:01 British Summer Time 5 August 2017

England are making their way back onto the field, with Faf du Plessis and Temba Bavuma already out there, prodding suspiciously at the pitch. It'll be Moeen to get things going straight after tea.

    Bavuma 30, Du Plessis 6

As the sun pierces through the clouds (what joy we've had with this weather today), Stokes steams in for his third over and he bowls an absolute beauty to Faf du Plessis.

Stokes gets it to comes back slightly, squaring up the South Africa captain who ends up playing it one-handed, the ball racing wide of gully and through for a boundary.

The afternoon session is done, England will be the happier team. I'm also done for now, here's Amy Lofthouse.

Francis Edwards: Big innings for Faf, crazy what a different player he is in Test cricket. So flamboyant in ODI cricket.

Funny you should say that Francis... his Test average is 43.25, which is almost identical to his ODI average of 43.41!

  8. SA 87-3published at 30 overs

Players and umpires keep an eye on the clock as we approach that tea break. Moeen Ali tosses up six deliveries, wide of off stump and the settled batsman Bavuma has no trouble in getting behind the balls when needed.

One more over before the break.

That was a neat catch by Stokes - it wasn't easy, it was low and quick.

    Bavuma 30, Du Plessis 0

Bavuma has been fairly impressive in this session. The South Africa number four helps himself to a couple worked away through midwicket, followed by a single clipped towards backward square.

Faf du Plessis yet to get off the mark.

Remember, you can hear the thoughts of Geoffrey Boycott, and put your questions to him, in Boycs Facebook live, external at tea (approx 15:40 BST)

South Africa captain Faf du Plessis played nine first-class matches on this very ground for Lancashire during a two-season stint with the club in 2008 and 2009...

In comes the skipper Faf du Plessis, who sees off the rest of the over.

Moeen now has 19 wickets in this series - does he still see himself as a batter who can bowl a bit?

That was nice cricket by Moeen Ali and a neat catch at slip. Moeen made it drift out - a real teaser, outside off stump but at driving length. Quite frankly, I don't think Kuhn can bat. I think he's a wicket waiting to get out. His technique is not good enough. He's too bottom hand and his footwork isn't tight enough.

    Kuhn c Stokes b Moeen 24 (84-3)

Gone. Moeen missed a chance of running out Bavuma but made amends by claiming the wicket of Kuhn. The England spinner bowling a good line outside off, the out-of-sorts Kuhn reaching for it and edging it through to Stokes who takes a good grab at slip. England strike before tea.

  15. SA 83-2published at 26 overs

Well, Dave, Kuhn is a few closer to that ton as the first delivery from Stokes is pulled for three. It was hit with the toe end of the bat and nearly took off the head of short leg. To be fair, Kuhn should have found the boundary from that ball.

South Africa could be three down, had Anderson been accurate with this aim at the stumps.

Dave Wood: How is Kuhn still in? Bet he makes a ton now.

  17. SA 77-2published at 25 overs

So it will be spin as in comes Moeen. He gives it lots of flight with a slip and a short leg in place. Kuhn and Bavuma exchange singles as the leading wicket-taker of the series concedes just two from his first over.

Boycott may get his wish as it looks like Stokes will be having a bowl.

I'd have liked Stokes to have had two or three overs. For me, he always does something with the ball.

  19. SA 75-2published at 25 overs

Kuhn really does not look comfortable at the crease and Broad is getting the better of him here. The ball nipping back, inside edges onto the pads and thighs.

Kuhn then has a half volley to drive at, but again he can't connect. Moeen Ali warming up to replace Toby Roland-Jones.
