  1. SA 75-2published at 24 overs

    Kuhn 20, Bavuma 22

Direct hit and Kuhn would have been heading back to the dressing room. The opener drives to mid-off, Anderson wastes no time in picking the ball up cleanly and having a shy at the non-striker's end.

Roland-Jones goes too full outside off as Bavuma helps himself to two, TBJ then going a bit too far down leg and it's whipped off the legs for four.

Sanoj: Is Stuart Broad releasing the ball too wide? He doesn't seem able to bowl close to the wicket and far often doesn't look threatening.

  3. SA 68-2published at 23 overs

There's a slight delay in play as a cameraman goes beyond his required duties to chase a balloon onto the outfield, taking it back past the boundary rope and giving it a good old stamp.

Broad goes through the motions as another over races by, Bavuma content in blocking it out. Maiden.

I thought Du Plessis allowed Bairstow to find momentum this morning. He backed off quickly. It sets a tone and a mindset. You want to try and get Bairstow out. That move of sitting back just takes off the edge a little bit.

  5. SA 68-2published at 22 overs

    Kuhn 19, Bavuma 16

The slip fielders get all excited over an lbw shout, but bowler Roland-Jones barely raises a hand. Too high. Bavuma shuffles across his wicket and an inside edge sends the ball to square leg for a single.

Kuhn is yet to find his rhythm or timing, as he attempts a cut shot at a ball that is far too low.

  6. Woakes targeting Edgbaston returnpublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 5 August 2017

One to keep an eye on - Chris Woakes is targeting a return to the England side in time for the day-night Test against the West Indies at Edgbaston.

Woakes has been out injured with a nine centimetre tear in his left side (ouch) since the opening match of the Champions Trophy.

    Kuhn 18, Bavuma 15

Oooh, that was close. The ball keeps remarkably low to Bavuma, who is outfoxed by the lack of bounce. It wasn't far off from clipping the off stump.

The final delivery of this Broad over rises well off the turf, Bavuma playing all around it as he takes a hit just below the waist.

It will be Roland-Jones to continue, seam up he goes full and Bavuma plays with soft hands to guide it down to third man, adding three runs to the tourist's total.

Kuhn seemed to be stuck on 17 for an age, but he works one to midwicket for a single. South Africa still trailing by 296.

Everyone seems to have taken a bit of a breath, post-lunch. The wicket looks good. This is the best opportunity for the South African top order to get a good score.

  11. SA 61-2published at 19 overs

Graeme Smith said this morning that South Africa will be aiming to end the day with just a couple of wickets down. Well they will need to have a stonking session and a bit for that to happen.

It probably won't happen if they bat like they are doing now. Kuhn drives at Broad, the ball darting through the huge gap between bat and pad. Another one angled in and it's bat, pad and loops into the air.

That prompts Joe Root to bring in a short leg. A mistimed drive from Kuhn, the ball trickling back to the bowler, ends the over.

    Kuhn 17, Bavuma 11

I was fortunate enough to be at Wimbledon this year and experienced the voice of French umpire Kader Nouni, aka the Barry White of tennis. Now, that's a voice.

Roland-Jones with a good ball, rising from a length and Bavuma gets well behind it. Same again, this time perhaps a bit wider and it's punched through cover for two.

  18. SA 59-2published at 17 overs

Stuart Broad wants a crack from the James Anderson End. Goes full and it's flicked off the feet by Bavuma, would have been four had it not been for some fine fielding by Malan, running in with a slide from mid-wicket.

    Three from the over.

    Kuhn 17, Bavuma 6

Kuhn, now on 17 from 47 deliveries, looks tentative but he's still there. Roland-Jones, with a wicket to his name, hasn't bowled anything special but is going about his business nicely, tucking up the opponent with a tight line. Another maiden.

You can feel the momentum is with the home side. Broad swinging his arms about, time for a bowling change?
