  1. Eng 10-0published at 4 overs

Lovely shape from Gabriel across Stoneman sees the opener just about getting his bat out of the way.

Lovely pace, too - most deliveries up near 90mph as Stoneman just looks to play himself in.

No real movement through the air or off the seam yet, though. Still, a maiden for the returning fast bowler.

  3. Eng 10-0published at 3 overs

Cook prods into the off-side for one before Stoneman rides a short ball for a single.

Roach yet to find his radar, spraying a few deliveries wide for the patient Cook to leave well alone.

It doesn't look a quick pitch but Gabriel is quick through the air.

  5. Eng 8-0published at 2 overs

Shannon Gabriel to open from the Football Ground End. Oh my that is a very loose loosener to start as Shane Dowrich scrambles in front of first slip to take it.

Mark Stoneman squeezes one down through third man for the first boundary of the day before clipping a couple out through the practice wickets.

Two dots to finish. Good carry and pace - that last ball was 90.1mph - but no swing so far.

  6. Eng 2-0published at 1 over

Watchful from Cook first up before the former captain gets off the mark with a late stab through backward point for two.

Oooh - a ripper from Roach gets Cook playing and missing before a solid forward defence to end.

It appears that West Indies had a sub fielder on for the first ball - the TMS team reckon one player got lost on the way to the pitch so the sub had to come out.

Dearie me fellas, not helping yourself there.

    From day-night to daylight.

    Edgbaston to Headingley.

The second Test is about to get under way - Alastair Cook on strike, Kemar Roach to bowl.

    Here we go...

Stoneman is a very good player. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a lot of runs today.

Westley doesn't give me a sense permanence. As a number three you want one of two things, either someone who sets his stall out to bat all day like Jonathan Trott used to or come out and dominate an attack like Ricky Pointing. He has got starts and if you are good enough to get a start, cash in for goodness sake.

And Malan, he got 60-odd last week but it was the easiest hundred in the offing and he didn't get it.

Mark Stoneman has got to play his natural game. He should not think that this is Test match cricket and he has to play a traditional way, he should play his natural game.

These are perfect conditions. The attack might be quicker but it is no better than a county attack and Stoneman has scored so many runs in county cricket.

It is a perfect chance for him, Tom Westley and Dawid Malan.

I managed to lose sight of a low trajectory ball once, smacked me right above the eye & split my eyebrow open. Obviously everyone rushed to help me... once they'd recovered from rolling around the floor in fits of laughter! Picture available on request!

Thanks, but no thanks Rob! I too have a fairly grim photo of my injury last night (see 10:20) that my colleague wasn't too pleased I shared.

'If we get that far' - ouch, even the weatherman is sassing this West Indies side.

  12. 'Fine cricket weather'published at 10:47 British Summer Time 25 August 2017

    Jake Cope
    Forecaster, BBC Weather Centre

A red ball and no rain means we should see some morning cricket on day one of the second Test. It will be a sunny start but through the day clouds will roll in from the northwest. Winds will be light and by mid-afternoon the temperature should reach a rather pleasant 20ºC.

The next few days look like fine cricket weather in Leeds. Saturday will be warm and sunny with a small chance that we could see a shower. Sunday and Monday will be warmer still, dry and sunny too.

Tuesday, if we get that far, could see some drizzle first thing which will clear up to leave a cloudy and cooler day, perfect for the seamers to rip through tail end batsmen on the final day.

It is a straw coloured pitch. It looks a belter to bat on.

Here are those XIs in full...

England: Cook, Stoneman, Westley, Root, Malan, Stokes, Bairstow, Moeen, Woakes, Broad, Anderson.

West Indies: Brathwaite, Powell, K Hope, S Hope, Chase, Blackwood, Dowrich, Holder, Roach, Gabriel, Bishoo.

  15. Postpublished at 10:39 British Summer Time 25 August 2017

West Indies captain Jason Holder: "We'd probably have had a bat too. I have stayed away from the criticism. I stay away from it and worry about the things I can control on the field."

  16. The Windies of changepublished at 10:37 British Summer Time 25 August 2017

West Indies make two changes from the side that were heavily beaten at Edgbaston.

Leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo and fast bowler Shannon Gabriel comes in for pacemen Alzarri Joseph and Miguel Cummins.

The batting was the obvious problem in the last Test but the bowling wasn't too clever either.

I think those changes make them stronger - a bit of trickery from Bishoo and Gabriel is the quickest bowler they have.

  17. Postpublished at 10:34 British Summer Time 25 August 2017

England captain Joe Root: "It looks a good pitch, it's about setting the tone again and making a big first-innings score. It's not been a straightforward decision to bring in Chris Woakes because Toby Roland-Jones has done really well. It's a good selection headache to have."

  18. ENGLAND WIN THE TOSS AND BATpublished at 10:32 British Summer Time 25 August 2017

No desire from Joe Root to put the West Indies batsman back through the wringer as he elects to bat first on his home ground.

Kieron Bird: I hope England lose the toss today. Need to prove we can grind out a win batting second to get the confidence up before Ashes.

Rik Andrews: Bat first, bat first, bat first, bat first.

The toss is coming up at 10:30 BST.
