He might be lifting his bat again soon (curse of the commentator alert), but Dhawan has already acknowledged the crowd today, bringing up a fine half-century with a boundary, which you can watch below.

  2. Ind 166-2published at 29 overs

Danushka Gunathilaka might be a gun in the field but he's hardly Muttiah Muralitharan with the ball and Dhawan is a man in form.

The India opener climbs into a wide half-volley to clatter his 11th four of the innings so far.

  3. A duck as rare as hen's teethpublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 8 June 2017

Dhawan's exploits in the last two overs have rather taken the sting out of Kohli's duck.

But it was still a huge moment and a very rare one give the India captain's usual exploits.

Make sure you watch it below as it probably won't happen again for a while.

That bouncer didn't trouble Dhawan at all.

He is looking in really good touch. He loves batting in England.

  5. Ind 160-2published at 28 overs

    Dhawan 72, Yuvraj 1

Danushka Gunathilaka is, fittingly, an absolute gun at backward point for Sri Lanka, saving a certain boundary from Dhawan with a brilliant diving stop.

He's not being back up by his bowler though, as two loose Pradeep deliveries are dispatched for back-to-back boundaries.

The first is pulled forcefully through square leg, the second is absolutely smited away on the cut. It wasn't even that wide but Dhawan is judging it beautifully out there.

  7. Ind 148-2published at 27 overs

As good as Pradeep was last over, Malinga has been dreadful this one and Dhawan has tucked in.

A slow, short ball is pulled dismissively and with authority for four. A long-hop is belted through the covers for another boundary. And the opener protects new man Yuvraj Singh by taking a single off the last to keep the strike.

Missed opportunity to exert more pressure on India after Kohli's wicket.

    Kohli c Dickwella b Pradeep 0 (India 139-2)

Oh my word! A duck for Kohli! Mockers part two from us.

Dhawan takes a single off the first ball to put the India captain on strike.

He plays out three deliveries calmly enough but then nibbles at one outside off and it's a simple catch behind the stumps.

Woeful shot from Kohli but it's full and in the right channel from Pradeep. Shades of how Jimmy Anderson used to snare Kohli.

Cheers Matt. Classic example of mockers from myself just before taking over live text duties, discussing how India looked likely to rack up 400 if they didn't lose any wickets.

Next ball - Rohit picks out fine leg.

As Matt says though, that just brings Kohli to the crease.

Is 400 still on? Or a tad too far, given the score at the half-way point? Let's find out...

  11. Ind 138-1published at 25 overs

Sri Lanka will be thrilled to finally get the breakthrough but, sadly for them, Rohit is replaced by Virat Kohli.

We're halfway through this innings which means it is time for me to hand over to Jack Skelton.

The short ball works! The first one went for six, but the second one was off the top edge and catching practice for the fielder.

    Rohit c Perera b Malinga 78 (138-1)

Oh Rohit. What have you done?

Malinga drops short again and Rohit pulls again.

This time he hits it straight to the fine-leg fielder. He could have had any score he wanted out there but falls for an excellent 78.

  14. 6 runs

    Another six for Rohit.

    This is too easy.

Sri Lanka must feel a long way from Colombo. The rain is falling and it's 35 degrees cooler than what they are used to!

  16. 50 runs

    Ind 131-0published at 24.1 overs

Oh no! Brollies up. Here comes the rain.

The players are sticking it out for now.

No worries for Dhawan. He drives Malinga through mid-off to bring up his second 50 of this tournament.

  17. Ind 127-0published at 24 overs

These batsmen have mixed the big shots with some smart running.

Perera bowls a tight over but they still run three. They've still managed to pick up boundaries at will though during the innings, like this six from Rohit.

That split extra cover and mid-off perfectly. Rohit is looking in good nick.

  20. Ind 124-0published at 23 overs

    Rohit 71 Dhawan 45

I don't think the Indian openers are particularly worried by Malinga.

Dhawan comes down the pitch to him to take a single into the offside. You wouldn't have seen that a few years ago.

Brilliant. That was played with disdain. Rohit hits him on the up through the covers for his eighth boundary.

This is now very, very ominous for Sri Lanka.
