There's little respite at the start of this new County Championship season.

The next round starts on Friday and once again, all 18 sides are in action, including champions Middlesex back at Lord's, the scene of their last-day epic championship win in September.

Here's how the fixtures look:

Division One:

Ageas Bowl: Hampshire v Yorkshire

Old Trafford: Lancashire v Somerset

Lord's: Middlesex v Essex

Edgbaston: Warwickshire v Surrey

Division Two:

Bristol: Gloucestershire v Durham

An excellent day's play comes to an end as Rory Kleinveldt (16 not out) smacks the penultimate ball of the match for a huge six to lead Northamptonshire to a thrilling victory over Derbyshire at the Racecourse Ground.

The game swung from one team to the next in the final two sessions, following a contrived declaration in the morning, but Richard Levi's brilliant 99 off 79 balls proved decisive.

Derbyshire captain Billy Godleman can be proud of his side's efforts, but he'll be left wondering if the target of 326 off 65 overs was a little too kind to the visitors.

Northants on the other hand walk away with their second Championship victory in as many games.

With the last hour having begun at 17:31 BST, Derbyshire have raced through 12 overs with their two spinners Daryn Smit and Jeevan Patel. 

Hosts' captain Billy Godleman does not want to allow Northamptonshire any extra overs to try and reach the target, so is moving his field around and having some lengthy chats - much to the umpires' annoyance.

22 runs needed from 24 balls. Six runs have come from the last 18 balls, along with the wicket of Max Holden.

Adam Voges scored 92 as champions Middlesex survived a scare on the final day against Hampshire.

Steven Crook is almost bowled around his legs by Daryn Smit but survives by the skin of his teeth.

Max Holden has moved on to 43, after sweeping Jeevan Mendis for three, off just 57 balls.

Easy peasy, you'd think - especially with the form Holden is in.

Some untidy fielding is costing Derbyshire at a time where they need to save every run possible.
