  1. Lancashire struggle to find a breakthroughpublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 17 April 2017

    Surrey 319 & 191-2 v Lancashire 470

Surrey may only be 40 runs ahead at The Oval but Scott Borthwick (62 not out) and Kumar Sangakkara (65 not out) look well set.

The Lancashire bowlers have been run ragged today and visitors captain Liam Livingstone has brought himself on in a bid to break up this third-wicket partnership, which now stands at 125.

  2. Duckett falls in Northants chasepublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 17 April 2017

    Derbyshire 281 & 351-1 v Northamptonshire 307 & 56-1 (target 326)

England man Ben Duckett's chances of launching one of his trademark destructive innings has ended at Derby.

The left-hander falls to Derbyshire seamer Tom Davis for 16 and the visitors may have to go into their shell a bit now.

  3. wicket

WICKET Libby (b Coughlin) 39published at 14:26 British Summer Time 17 April 2017

    Durham 162 & 250 v Nottinghamshire 305 & 93-1

Paul Coughlin gets nothing more than a consolation wicket as a yorker rearranges Jake Libby's stumps.

Samit Patel walks out to the crease with Nottinghamshire clearly trying to end this match as soon as possible.

  4. 50 runs

50 for Greg Smithpublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 17 April 2017

    Durham 162 & 250 v Nottinghamshire 305 & 90-0 (target 108)

Half-century for Nottinghamshire opener Greg Smith at Chester-le-Street and victory is just 18 runs away now for the visitors.

  5. wicket

    Kent 304 & 413-5d v Sussex 291 & 137-7

Sussex's resistance is broken as Matt Coles picks up his first wicket of the innings after David Wiese picks out Daniel Bell-Drummond at deep square leg.

Just three more wickets needed for victory for Kent at Hove.

  6. Still in the balance for Middlesexpublished at 14:15 British Summer Time 17 April 2017

    Hampshire 438 v Middlesex 356 & 213-6

So, the lead is just 131 runs for Middlesex with four wickets in hand.

Captain James Franklin joins John Simpson now in the middle and there are still a minimum of 54 overs to bowl in the day.

  7. wicket

WICKET Voges (c McManus b Abbott) 92published at 14:11 British Summer Time 17 April 2017

    Hampshire 438 v Middlesex 356 & 213-6

Oh no, the nervous 90s strike again at the Ageas Bowl.

Adam Voges is the man to succumb this time and the new ball does indeed do the trick for Hampshire with Kyle Abbott finding a fine outside edge through to Lewis McManus.

  8. Northants target under 300published at 14:10 British Summer Time 17 April 2017

    Derbyshire 281 & 351-1 v Northamptonshire 307 & 30-0

Northamptonshire's target is under 300 as Ben Duckett and Rob Newton make a solid start to their chase.

The visitors need another 296 runs in 58 overs against Derbyshire. That's just over five runs an over if my mental arithmetic is correct.

  9. new ball

Voges continues watchful progresspublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 17 April 2017

    Hampshire 438 v Middlesex 356 & 209-5

Still very little encouragement for the bowlers on this final day at the Ageas Bowl.

Just the one Middlesex wicket to fall so far, that of nightwatchman Steven Finn.

Adam Voges (88 not out) meanwhile is moving serenely towards a century with John Simpson (21 not out) supporting at the other end.

A lead of 127, but Hampshire are taking the new ball in a bid to force a breakthrough.

It's come from 129 balls with three fours for the all-rounder as he and Kumar Sangakkara continue their third-wicket partnership.

  14. Calm before the stormpublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 17 April 2017

A quiet start all round after lunch. Perhaps the players are just settling in after having a hearty lunch.

On my end, I enjoyed rather nice chicken sandwich from the canteen downstairs. Not quite as good as the roast dinner I missed out on yesterday lunch time though!

  15. Back under way after lunchpublished at 13:40 British Summer Time 17 April 2017

Kent and Notts look to wrap up victory

The lunch bell has rung for the final time in this round of matches as the players come back out in our five remaining matches.

A contrived declaration in Derbyshire has set up an interesting game, with Northamptonshire needing 326 runs off 65 overs to win and Kent and Nottinghamshire are on the brink of victory in their matches against Sussex and Durham respectively.

We are certainly set for a fascinating afternoon session in Division Two.

  16. Postpublished at 13:32 British Summer Time 17 April 2017

Cheers Adam, another sterling job after a morning of madness.

A little under 10 minutes until we get back under way in all of our games. There seems to be a race on between Kent and Nottinghamshire as to who can win their Division Two matches the quickest.

Who's everyone's money on? I'm plumping for Kent!

  17. Postpublished at 13:30 British Summer Time 17 April 2017

Right, it's time for me to prop my metaphorical bat up in the changing room and hand you over to Kalika Mehta for the afternoon session.

    All yours.....

In light of Darren Stevens' fine efforts at the age of 40, which other big names in the game do you think have got the staying power to keep going into their 40s?

Kent (304 & 413-5 dec) need four more wickets to beat Sussex (291 & 102-6)

    Adam Whitty
    BBC Radio Kent at Hove

When Sussex got their second innings off to a flyer this morning, reaching 59-0 in quick time, many of the supporters here at Hove wondered whether we may have a game on.

But Sussex's hopes of reaching what seemed an unlikely 427 have not only been extinguished, but trampled on by Darren Stevens, who has blown their top order away.

The 40-year-old took 6-22 in their win against Gloucestershire last week, and now has another five-for, getting all but one of the Sussex wickets to fall in the morning session, and conceding just 31 runs.

That, you feel, may be game over. Although Sussex do bat deep, as we saw with number 11 Jofra Archer's excellent 50 in the first innings.

Kent have to contend with another adversary today though, in the shape of some ominous looking clouds above our heads.

Rain is forecast, but the way Darren Stevens is bowling, they might beat the showers anyway.

  20. Borthwick and Sangakkara stand firmpublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 17 April 2017

    Surrey 319 & 157-2 (f/o) v Lancashire 470

    Mark Church
BBC Radio London commentator at The Oval

Another fascinating morning of cricket. Lancashire have bowled with great discipline, as they did yesterday, and were rewarded early in the day when Stephen Parry had Mark Stoneman stumped for 27 with a lovely piece of bowling.

Kumar Sangakkara (47 not out) came to the middle and immediately used his feet to the spinners, including depositing Simon Kerrigan into the pavilion.

At the other end, Scott Borthwick (47 not out) constructed his innings elegantly as together the Surrey pair moved the hosts into a lead.

If they continue like this for half an hour after lunch, Lancashire will have to change tactics, but there is still batting to be done.
