WICKET Rossington (c Smit b Palladino) 11published at 15:36 British Summer Time 17 April 2017

    Derbyshire 281 & 351-1 dec v Northamptonshire 307 & 124-4

Daryn Smit takes an absolutely brilliant catch at second slip, with the ball coming at him very fast and to his left, to get rid of Adam Rossington.

It's Tony Palladino's second wicket in as many overs as Derbyshire edge their noses in front.

At what stage will Northamptonshire start to baton down the hatches and shut up shop?

  3. Chastening experience for Durham and Notts cruise homepublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 17 April 2017

    Nottinghamshire (307 & 101-1) beat Durham (162 & 250) by nine wickets

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle at Chester-le-Street

Nottinghamshire made it two wins on the bounce as they reached their victory target within an hour of play after lunch.

Chasing only 108, it should have been a formality and openers Greg Smith and Jake Libby made sure it was with an opening stand of 93.

That ended when Libby was bowled by Paul Coughlin for 39, but Smith went on to make 60 not out.

It's Durham's first defeat in an opening game for five years, with the last one coming against Notts in 2012.

Durham lost this match on the first morning when they were skittled out for 162 in difficult conditions. They were also a week behind Notts - who began with a victory at Leicester last week - and it showed.

But Keaton Jennings looks to be in great form still and his 102 not out today for Durham was his ninth century in the past year.

The England selector James Whitaker was here to see it as well!

  7. A 'disgraceful' morning forgottenpublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 17 April 2017

    Derbyshire 281 & 351-1 dec v Northamptonshire 307 & 109-2 (target 326)

    Alex Winter
BBC Radio Northampton sport at Derby

This morning's cricket was disgraceful, but it's now all forgotten as we have a competitive run chase.

You could argue it was worth the two hours of farce, but there was surely a better way to reach this situation.

Hey ho, it's good stuff now and Rob Newton is leading Northants' chase. The number of strokemakers in the order should mean the required run-rate shouldn't be too great a problem for the visitors - whether they can survive enough time is another matter; playing too many strokes was Northants' issue in the first innings.

Jeevan Mendis, the Sri Lankan leggie, will be expected to play a big role for Derbyshire but the pitch has played pretty well throughout this game.

The match turned on two very differing second innings performances as the visitors' captain Sam Northneast brilliant unbeaten 173 complied on day three allowed Kent to declare on the final morning.

It was followed by a devastating spell of bowling from the brilliant Darren Stevens, who at 40-years-old took his 14th five-wicket haul, to dismantle Sussex's top order to leave the away side needing just four wickets after lunch to win.

Brown resisted and it was left up to Matt Coles to pick up three late wickets to seal an impressive victory on the road for Kent.

Hampshire on the hunt for some more Middlesex wickets with Kyle Abbott already bagging five in this second innings.

But, could there be some showers around the corner in Southampton?

  16. Kent closing in on a big winpublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 17 April 2017

    Kent 304 & 413-5 dec v Sussex 291 & 168-7 (target 427)

    Adam Whitty
    BBC Radio Kent at Hove

"I like the way David Wiese and Ben Brown have been batting after lunch", said my co-commentator Vithushan Ehantharajah.

The pair had come out after lunch, with the game all but gone, and played aggressively. Wiese had just smacked the previously unplayable Darren Stevens (5-51) for two sixes.

But in one of the worst cases of mockers you will see, the very next ball he skied a hook shot right down Daniel Bell-Drummond's throat at long leg.

Matt Coles, the wicket-taker, and his Kent colleagues, charged to him in celebration. They knew that was a big wicket, with just three more needed.

But of course, their real appreciation should be aimed directly at the BBC commentary box...

    Durham 162 & 250 v Notts 305 & 110-1

Greg Smith's ninth boundary of his innings sees Nottinghamshire ease home to a nine-wicket victory at Chester-le-Street.

The result never looked in doubt, despite Keaton Jennings' 102 in the second innings, as Notts dominated from day one.

It's a first home loss for Durham in 12 matches and their batting display in the first innings in particularly will be cause for concern for Paul Collingwood.

Nottinghamshire in contrast will believe they can gain promotion at a first time of asking after what is likely to have been their toughest test in Division Two.
