    It was going to take a leading innings from the top of the order - Rob Newton provided it with a fine 98 - and contributions from the naturally aggressive middle order - and Richard Levi is ticking that box too.

    The progress since tea has been excellent and put Derbyshire back on the defensive. 

    Northants still have Steven Crook and Rory Kleinveldt to come to try and finish this chase off. 

    But work still to do with time ticking away.

    So, both sides remain unbeaten in their opening two games. It's two draws for the Red Rose and a win and a draw for Surrey.
