  1. Ire 121-8published at 32 overs

Root has done his bit. Five overs, nine runs, two wickets. That'll do pig, that'll do.

Back comes Mark Wood and tries to bounce out Murtagh, who has a wild swing to send the ball over Billings and away for four. That might add an extra over to this game later.

  2. Watch as Root traps Dockrell lbwpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 5 May 2017

Joe Root completed a spell of three wickets in eight balls by removing George Dockrell lbw for a duck...

Ireland were 81-2 in the 18th over. Quite the collapse...

  3. Ire 115-8published at 31 overs

Adil Rashid spins another googly past the outside edge of O'Brien's bat. The two share a little smile, but from the batsman's point of view the only humour in this situation is of the gallows type.

Here's Adil Rashid's second wicket in the 27th over as he bowled Stuart Thompson.

  5. Ire 111-8published at 30 overs

    N O'Brien 13, Murtagh 0

Ireland limp through another Root over, adding just the one run. 20 overs remain, but let's be honest, Ireland aren't going to bat all those.

It's like the jungle and the lion has the antelope by the throat. Looking down the scorecard, they've lost the wickets in relatively quick succession. You wouldn't have thought it was Rashid and Root that were going to do the damage. The captain just stagnated.

  7. Ire 110-8published at 29 overs

O'Brien can only poke hopelessly at Rashid's tempting deliveries. It is a lost cause now. Ireland are stuck between a rock and an inevitable defeat.

  8. Rashid traps Kevin O’Brien lbwpublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 5 May 2017

This feels a while ago now, but it was only a couple of overs...

This is hard to commentate on. To all those travelling supporters from Ireland, it's very disappointing. We are truly into the tail now.

  10. Ire 109-8published at 28 overs

Ireland are in all sorts of trouble. The really disappointing thing is that England haven't really had to get out of second gear. They have brushed aside this Ireland order with ease.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 27.3 OVERS

Dockrell lbw Root 0 (Ire 109-8)

The collapse continues. Dockrell looks nervous from the off and is trapped third ball as he goes back to a Root ball that slams into his pads. No doubts. That is out.

Get the kettle on, we'll be in, in a minute.

With a large, expectant crowd this is very, very disappointing from Ireland.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 27 overs

    Thompson b Rashid 4 (Ire 108-7)

This is going to end quickly. Stuart Thompson drives a four off Rashid but is dismissed next ball as the spinner turns a ball away from a prodded straight bat and takes out off stump.

    Ireland are crumbling.

That looked absolutely plumb with Kevin O'Brien lazily playing forward. You're susceptible to that if you don't get bat on ball these days. Ireland are now in a perilous position.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 26.3 overs

    K O'Brien lbw Rashid (Ire 104-6)

There will be no 2011-style heroics from Kevin O'Brien today. He can have no complaints either. Rashid's ball is full and traps him bang in front. Ireland are in crisis now.

  16. Watch as Rashid traps Wilson lbwpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 5 May 2017

Adil Rashid, not to be outdone by a part-time spinner, takes the fifth Ireland wicket, trapping Gary Wilson lbw...

  17. Ire 103-5published at 26 overs

    Cheers Amy. Fine work.

I'm stepping in with England in a dominant position here. Joe Root continues to loop in his deceptively dangerous off-spin, which the O'Briens work around for a quartet of singles. The momentum has been well and truly sucked from this Ireland innings.

And with that, I'll leave you in the very capable hands of Phil Dawkes. He'll take you through the final 25 overs. In a bit!

It is fun watching Adil Rashid when he is bowling well. Against left-handers he will bowl more googlies than he would right-handers, especially if he feels they won't pick him.

  20. Ire 99-5published at 25 overs

This has been a good spell from Rashid; he's been accurate and used his variations well. Niall O'Brien plays across his pads and the ball slips off the back of the bat and towards David Willey. A bounce saves the Ireland man, however.
