  1. Watch: 'Agony over’ for Porterfieldpublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 5 May 2017

Thirteen runs from 45 balls, not the most fluent innings from Ireland captain William Poterfield. Watch how it ended with Liam Plunkett taking an easy catch off the bowling of Joe Root below...

  2. Ire 96-5published at 24 overs

    Root 2-0-4-1

Kevin O'Brien has joined his brother Niall at the crease. He's got Joe Root in his sights and misses a shovel at shortish delivery that bounces and turns. It's smartly taken by Billings, up to the stumps.

There was nothing hopeful about the review, but it was done instantaneously as though he thought he had at least gloved it. Maybe he just thought that Ireland have little batting left to come.

  5. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 22.5 overs

    Wilson lbw b Rashid 1 (Ire 93-5)

And indeed, it's out. Hitting middle about three-quarters of the way up. Wilson trudges off, his head down. He reviewed so quickly and seemed convinced he'd hit it.

  6. Postpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 5 May 2017

Wilson reckons he's hit it, but there's nothing on ultra edge. He was forward, going for the sweep.

  7. Ireland reviewpublished at 22.5 overs

    Ire 93-4

Rashid reckons he's trapped Gary Wilson lbw and Aleem Dar agrees. Up goes the finger, but Wilson makes the t-sign. We're going upstairs.

  8. Ire 92-4published at 22 overs

Gary Wilson is the next man in, and he gets straight off the mark with a quick single. Niall O'Brien then angles his bat nicely to drive for another couple.

I guess he was trying to go over mid-off but he made a very poor connection. Joe Root tossed it up outside off. It is in the slot if you are in nick. Ireland are struggling now.

  10. wicket

Porterfield chips up easy catchpublished at 21.2 overs

    Ire 90-4

Will Porterfield will have better innings than that. He was laboring - his 13 came from 45 balls - and it was a simple dismissal in the end. A nothing sort of delivery from Root, Porterfield obligingly slapped it up in the air and it was a straightforward catch for Plunkett.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 21.2 overs

    Porterfield c Plunkett b Root 13 (Ire 90-4)

Joe Root is going to twirl his arm over - and he's got a wicket with his second ball! Porterfield's uncomfortable stay is at an end.

  12. Ire 90-3published at 21 overes

Porterfield is having a bit of trouble picking Rashid's variations, so he opts to smack the ball as hard as he can instead. A full toss gets swung into the outfield, before Porterfield narrowly avoids getting run out at the non-strikers. The two batsmen trade singles, though, to keep things ticking over.

  13. Watch Balbirnie caught behind off Ballpublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 5 May 2017

Good bowling by Ball, well held by Billings, not great from Balbirnie. Watch the third Ireland wicket to fall below.

I am a huge fan of Jonny Bairstow - more of his batting than his keeping. You have to find a way that he plays in all forms of the game as a batsman. He is a really good fielder as well.

  15. Ire 85-3published at 20 overs

Jonny Bairstow is prowling about in the outfield. It's Billings who has been given the gloves for today's game, of course. A cracker from Ball to end the over, Niall O'Brien moving forward and the ball zipping past his attempted drive.

  17. Ire 84-3published at 19 overs

Here's Adil Rashid, on for his first bowl. He tosses the ball wide and Porterfield misses a cut, before a reverse sweep goes wrong and the batsman is rapped on the pad. Not out. Few shots look as ugly as a reverse sweep when they go wrong. Rashid rounds off the over with a beauty that beats the off-stump by a whisker.

You can watch the second of Balbirnie's two fours in two balls off Liam Plunkett below, before he fell to Jake Ball.

  19. Ire 82-3published at 18 overs

Drinks are taken, which gives new man Niall O'Brien time to have a chat with his captain. That was a bad time for Ireland to lose a wicket - not that there's ever really a good time. Balbirnie was starting to find his range.

It was a good catch by Billings. It went quickly off the outside edge. You'd expect the keeper to catch it, though. A timely wicket for England. Balbirnie scored quite quickly, mostly by glides behind the wicket. I think it is fair to say that once you get past Kevin O'Brien it is not the strongest tail.
