  1. Ire 49-2published at 9 overs

One of my favourite memories, Ed, is listening to Blowers describe that '05 Ashes over where Flintoff unleashed at Edgbaston and smashed an enormous six. The glee in Blowers' voice was brilliant.

Back on the pitch and Willey is continuing, sunshine gently creeping onto the wicket. Balbirnie greets everything with a straight bat, tapping the deliveries away before taking an easy single from the final ball.

  3. Ire 47-2published at 8 overs

    Wood 4-0-17-1

Two slips in now for Mark Wood, arms and legs pumping away. He's got some decent pace going now, and Will Portfield is watchful, patting everything away. He's been joined by Andy Balbirnie.

There's some flats right behind the bowlers arm at the Bristol ground, meaning you don't even have to get out of bed to watch the cricket. Very much my dream scenario.

He's back in the pavilion now but here's a look back at Ed Joyce's lovely boundary in the second over of Mark Wood.

That is a clear misjudgment from Joyce and he knows it. He is fuming with himself. He got too far across and it is hitting middle, middle and leg. Ireland, from a bouncy position, now find themselves two down.

  6. wicket

Joyce trapped LBWpublished at 7 overs

    Ire 46-2

Joyce played a glorious shot in that over, cutting Willey through point with a lovely flourish. But Willey responded by cutting him in half with a fine ball, before Joyce missed a straight-ish delivery. Struck on the toe, looks as though it would have been hitting leg. Off Joyce trudges.

    Joyce lbw b Willey 23 (Ire 46-2)

Oh, that's out. Both Ireland openers are back in the pavilion.

  8. Ire 41-1published at 6 overs

Captain William Porterfield is the next in. Ooft, hello. Short, fast and in your face from Wood, the ball rising up and forcing Ed Joyce to duck his head. Decent pace on that one.

He actually played inside that. Again, that is the nature of years and years of watching Paul Stirling. You have to accept that this is how he plays. Such a positive start for Ireland but he has gone.

  10. wicket

    Stirling fallspublished at 5.4 overs

    Ire 40-1

Full and straight from Mark Wood, and Stirling duly obliges. He has a big old heave-ho and leaves a huge gap that the ball sails through and clatters into the stumps. Clever bit of bowling from Wood, who angled the ball in nicely, but Stirling left a big enough gap.

Dean Heath: No debate Billings is a better keeper then Bairstow and Buttler

  13. Ire 35-0published at 5 overs

    Joyce 14, Stirling 20

Shot! Stirling decides there's no point in moving his feet if he can swing a bat as hard as that and thwacks the ball back down the pitch, beyond Willey's hand. Three boundaries in a row for the Ireland man, guiding the ball rather riskily through the slips, before a cover drive whizzes into the ropes. An expensive over from Willey.

  15. Eng 23-0published at 4 overs

That's a beauty from Wood - a touch of away swing and it beats Joyce's prod forward. In fact Wood's finding more movement now, Joyce raising his bat high above his head as the ball pings over the top of the stumps. Just a couple from the over.

  17. Ire 21-0published at 3 overs

    Joyce 12, Stirling 8

Paul Stirling watches the ball carefully, stands back and launches into a cover drive that flies away to the boundary. He gave that a hearty thwack - no foot movement, just plenty of power. Stirling tries it again to the final ball of the over, but gets an outside edge that goes whizzing through a vacant second slip. Willey puts his head in his hands and grimaces.

It has been a momentous time, the lead up to these games, from an Ireland perspective. It is a real measure of how the game has evolved over a period of time. We just have to keep moving forward as a nation and this is one further stage of that journey.

  19. Ire 13-0published at 2 overs

Wood keeps up the full tactic, but that's lovely from Ed Joyce, turning a leg-side delivery away to the boundary. And again, this time a half-volley getting an elegant sort of thwack for another boundary. Wood stomps back to the outfield, looking a little miffed.

  20. Ire 5-0published at 11:05 British Summer Time 5 May 2017

Things that annoy me about the England one-day kit: there's stripes on the front of it, but not on the back. Other than that, I'm all for it.

Mark Wood is going to have a bowl, his first one-day match for England since last September.
