  1. Eng 54-2published at 8 overs

    Kanchana 4-0-29-2

Heather Knight is England's number four, arriving to a game that is being played on fast forward. Wickets and boundaries, the latest of which is clipped to square leg by Sarah Taylor.

Lauren Winfield looked to pull a ball and it has gone straight up, but there were good signs from her. She has a job to do at the top of the order to give the innings some early impetus and has done that.

    Winfield c Ranasinghe b Kanchana 26 (Eng 50-2)

Oh, Lauren Winfield. This is drowning in honey. A short ball from Ama Kanchana, Winfield tries to pull and can only top edge a skier to mid-on. Was it quite short enough for the shot? Perhaps not. It's a pretty soft way to go.

  4. Eng 44-1published at 7 overs

    Target 205

Spin in the powerplay, Oshadi Ranasinghe. Lots of air, also plenty of gaps on the leg side. Too short, Sarah Taylor on to a pull shot quicker than a hiccup. What's the thinking behind the off-spinner bowling to only three on the leg side. Does she need one of those field-placing tea towels?

  5. Eng 39-1published at 6 overs

Sarah Taylor is number three, watching from the other end as Lauren Winfield plays a dismissive pull in front of square for four. Looking again at that Beaumont lbw, she was actually hit on the thigh pad, but she's not the tallest. Across the line, too.

That looked as out as you can get. She went back to a ball she should have gone forward too. It's a disappointing start for her. Sarah Taylor now coming in at No.3 which is her preferred role. She needs time out in the middle, and to feel bat and ball again.

    WICKETpublished at 5.1 overs

Beaumont lbw Kanchana 12 (Eng 33-1)

Gone. Tammy Beaumont doesn't like the decision, but she looks pretty stone dead. Back on the stumps, hit just above the front knee, probably clattering the top of the middle peg. Beamont hasn't made the best beginning to the tournament and England's start to this chase is checked.

  8. Eng 28-0published at 5 overs

    Target 205

This is some high-class escorting of the ball A Winfield drive down the ground is about a yard to the left of the mid-on fielder, who doesn't bother to dive and simply follows it to the boundary. Dirty trousers! I reckon England might knock these off in about 30 overs.

  9. Eng 18-0published at 4 overs

    Target 205

England have probably decided that they have had a long enough look at the bowling. Beaumont pulls Kanchana through the vacant square-leg region for four. Meanwhile, in the Caribbean, there's an ODI about to take place. Why has match referee David Boon bought his robot with him? Is it made from recycled beer cans?

England have missed this at the top of the order. Lauren Winfield is the aggressor and times the ball so well.

  11. Eng 11-0published at 3 overs

    Target 205

Weerakkody has a short approach, a delivery stride that throws her wide of the crease and an action like a malfunctioning windmill. Winfield has had enough of hanging around. With the ball angling in to her pads, she picks up over mid-wicket for a one-bounce four and follows up with a force to the cover boundary.

Sri Lanka got off to a slow start and then managed to pick up the rate. England will look to get a handle on the pace of the pitch then seek to attack.

  13. Eng 2-0published at 2 overs

Ama Kancaha, short and with a slingy action, shares the new ball (and is also wearing a headband). Winfield, bat raised even higher than Jonny Bairstow, wants to get after the ball, but there's no pace to work with. Kanchana's wide is the only run from the over.

Weerakkody has got a strange action, she comes wide of the crease and bowls off the wrong foot. She reminds me of Pakistan T20 bowler Sohail Tanvir.

  15. Eng 1-0published at 1 overs

    Target 205

There was a slip in place, but it was axed after only one delivery. Weerakkody is the most medium of medium-pace, a very army action. She is also sporting a blue headband, a la Dennis Lillee. Just a single from the first over.

A bit of Fatboy Slim on the stereo. Winfield, back in the side after that wrist injury, takes guard. Sripali Weerakkody has the ball.

Mark Robinson, the England coach, is in the dugout, sporting a floppy sunhat. The Sri Lankans are a mix of sweaters and non-sweaters. As a result, some are in blue and some are in yellow.

If England complete this run-chase, by the way, they will probably end the day in the top three of the group. Exactly where they need to be. Tammy Beaumont and Lauren Winfield have strapped their mums and dads on and will soon get this reply under way.

Katie Perkins (52) and Suzie Bates (51) both hit half-centuries as New Zealand finished on 219-9 against Australia. Spinner Jess Jonassen finished the pick of the attack for the Aussies in Bristol with 3-33 while Megan Schutt claimed 3-40.

Pakistan bowled impressively to restrict India to 169-9 at Derby. Nashra Sandhu took two wickets in three balls as she claimed 4-26 for Pakistan while Punam Raut (47) top scored for India.

Remember, South Africa have already thrashed West Indies.
