England off-spinner Laura Marsh: "It's always tough to sit on the sidelines, but I'm grateful for the opportunity and to pick up wickets.

"Their side is full of left-handers, so that is always nice for an off-spinner.

"We can take confidence from the last batting innings we had. The girls played brilliantly, so it's nothing different today."

Former England opener Caroline Foster: "We need to improve our fielding it's fair to say. Katherine Brunt bowled superbly, and England certainly looked more in control compared to the match against India."

Cheers, Higgo. Decent from England, but it could have been better if they had held their catches. The likes of Australia and New Zealand won't be so forgiving.

That's my work here done - for now. Stephan Shemilt is back in the seat, refreshed by some corned beef sandwiches.

  5. SL 204-8published at 50 overs

A fantastic, plucky effort from Sri Lanka sees them post a more-than-challenging 204-8. Both sides will be happy with their work.

    Game on!

  6. 6 runs

    SL 199-8published at 49.1 overs

Anya Shrubsole's mood is not helped when Kanchana moves across her stumps and hits a six over her left shoulder.

  7. SL 193-8published at 49 overs

    Hazell 8-0-31-1

Every shot is a wild mow across the line as Sri Lanka eye that magical 200-mark. It's been some effort from the lower order to get them there.

Former England opener Caroline Foster: "Fran Wilson did well to take that. She wasn't in a great position but stayed still and then moved with her hands to claim it."

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 48.2 overs

    Ranasinghe c Wilson b Hazell 26 (SL 190-8)

Finally Ranasinghe's luck runs out as she tries to hit across the line to Dani Hazell and the ball flies off the outside edge towards point where Fran Wilson - with the safest hands in the England outfield - takes a tumbling catch.

  10. dropped catch

    Dropped catch (x 2!)published at 48 overs

    SL 189-7

It's going from bad to worse for England.

First Tammy Beaumont loses the ball in the air at backward square leg and the ball drops safely onto the turf.

A couple of balls later, Lauren Winfield makes a diving attempt at cover but the ball spills out of her hands.

Disaster, especially for Anya Shrubsole who has created three chances off the bat but seen none of them taken.

  11. SL 184-7published at 47 overs

A missed run-out opportunity sums up England's difficult 30 minutes or so. Kanchana, sensing an opportunity to take advantage, hits the new bowler Dani Hazell high into the leg side but the ball drops just short of Katherine Brunt running in from the square leg boundary.

Former England opener Caroline Foster: "The bowlers taking the pace off the ball now, looking for that bit of control while hoping the batters chip out or are trapped lbw."

  13. SL 180-7published at 46 overs

    Ranasinghe 22, Kanchana 20

Ranasinghe is a busy little left-hander - checking the field for gaps, nudging the ball into those said gaps and then haring down the other end for a single. It keeps the scoreboard moving and has taken the edge off England's enthusiasm.

  14. SL 177-7published at 45 overs

I don't think it's an exaggeration to say these two batters have made this into something resembling a contest by pushing the score towards 200. Four from the over as Nat Sciver is knocked for three singles and delivers a wide.

Katherine Brunt has bowled the best she probably has in the tournament and has gone wicketless, while Laura Marsh has maybe not been at her very best and come away with four wickets.

  16. SL 173-7published at 44 overs

    Brunt 10-0-25-0

Katherine Brunt is not having the best of luck. First a slower ball deceives the Kanchana, striking her on the pad. It's going down leg though. Then a high catch lands safely at mid-off, then an inside edge runs past the stumps. No luck at all.

  17. SL 169-7published at 43 overs

Think positive, West Indies players... you can get to the carvery now. England are going nowhere for now, they're on top against Sri Lanka but being frustrated by this eighth-wicket partnership. Kanchana slices a fortuitous four through the off side.

  18. South Africa home in the seventh overpublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 2 July 2017

South Africa have taken no time at all to chase down West Indies' 48 all out at Grace Road. They have done it for no loss in just 6.2 overs with openers Laura Wolvaart (19*) and Lizelle Lee (29*) both unbeaten. They have won with 262 balls to spare - the record in Women's ODIs is 307 but that goes back to the days when they were 60 over matches.

  19. SL 161-7published at 42 overs

Sri Lanka have got to hope they can somehow edge themselves up to 200. A mis-field allows them to turn one into two. Every little counts and all that.

Katherine Brunt, the bowler, is not very happy with the mis-field as she chunters all the way back to her fielding position.

An important nine overs for both teams. Sir Lanka have showed some aggression in the last few overs but only have three wickets in hand. England on the other hand will be looking to wrap this up pretty quickly.
