  1. A chance to gain on Middlesex?published at 16:23 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Somerset 236-7 (70 overs) v Surrey

So with their relegation rivals Middlesex picking up just the one batting bonus point (all out for 233 against Lancashire), a second batting bonus point for Somerset could be crucial in the race to avoid the drop.

They need a further 14 runs at the Oval to get that, with three wickets remaining and Steven Davies still going strong on 70 not out.

Kyle Abbott edges to Varun Chopra in the slip cordon. One wicket to go, George Bailey getting itchy on 89. Can he reach his century?

Superb from Jeetan Patel. That's his third 100 in first-class cricket and his first since 2014.

It comes from just 111 deliveries.

    But... Next ball...

"From the Yorkshire angle, a win is definitely needed... If they don't, it's going to be a real fight for survival.

It's the same deal for Nottinghamshire, who have Jake Libby and Steven Mullaney batting at Wantage Road.

Alex Davies and Haseeb Hameed have begun Lancashire's response to Middlesex's 233.

    Sussex 242-3 (63.5 overs) v Durham

A terrific day for Luke Wells who, on his debut as Sussex captain, was asked to bat first, and has then led from the front scoring his third century of the season, and 16th of his career.

He shared a second-wicket partnership of 186 with Stiaan Van Zyl and then 51 with Laurie Evans who was out just before tea to the occasional bowling of Keaton Jennings.

Durham will take heart from that late wicket and, with the new ball due in another 16 overs, Sussex will be mindful of the type of collapse that saw them lose so dramatically to Derbyshire last week.

  17. Tea update from Headingleypublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Warwickshire 195-8 (64 overs) v Yorkshire

    Mike Taylor
    BBC WM at Headingley

Warwickshire's counter-attack after lunch gradually lost momentum but it did at the very least restore some dignity after their morning struggles.

Jeetan Patel - and if any overseas player could be relied upon to continue giving his all even after relegation it is Patel - led the recovery with a half-century that was positive rather than aggressive.

He scored quickly but did not slog, and although there were a few false strokes, most of his 14 boundaries have owed more to good timing than brute force.

He added 96 with Ian Bell, who was elegant almost throughout his 51. When Bell was removed during an excellent Matthew Fisher spell, and Chris Wright fell in the same over, the end might have followed quickly, but Boyd Rankin obstinately helped Patel add another 44 by tea.

Yorkshire's almost all-seam attack continued to swing the ball, but the edges did not come as they had before lunch, and they must be frustrated not to be batting yet, especially as rain is likely to intervene later in the week.

  18. Middlesex all out for 233published at 15:40 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Middlesex 233 (61.3 overs) v Lancashire

Tim Murtagh did indeed slog. He smashed 18 valuable runs before Tom Bailey caught him off the bowling of Ryan McLaren.

Ollie Rayner finishes unbeaten on 52.

  19. Northants all out for 194published at 15:36 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Northants 194 v Notts

Fifty for Ollie Rayner as he crashes Ryan McLaren to the boundary.

It's slogging time now for his partner Tim Murtagh. A second batting point would be lovely. Still some way to go.
