Samit Patel does the business for Notts, ending Rory Kleinveldt's cameo. The big Northants all-rounder made 43 from 63 balls.
Middlesex 191-8 (55.2 overs) v Lancashire
There's the breakthrough Lancashire needed! Toby Roland-Jones struck by a full one from Kyle Jarvis. Is it going down the legside? The length of it has done for the Middlesex man.
He put on 102 runs with Ollie Rayner and may well have got his side to a reasonable score on a pitch that is doing a fair bit.
Middlesex 189-7 (54.1 overs) v Lancashire
OIlie Rayner creams one back past Matt Parkinson to the boundary to bring up the 100-partnership with Toby Roland-Jones.
It's come in good time, too taking just over 20 overs.

Neil: For what it's worth, I'd maybe do same as Coughlin. These pros only get 1 shot at a career & £. However, I understand Sir Ian's frustrations.
See 14:03 post.
There's certainly a debate to be had Neil. A transfer system akin to football could work in county cricket, as this year has seen plenty of mid-season moves: Adam Hose, Dom Sibley, Mark Footitt and Rikki Clarke have all moved.
Middlesex 184-7 (52.2 overs) v Lancashire
Good stuff from England's Toby Roland-Jones who is carrying Middlesex's fightback along with Ollie Rayner.
The all-rounder has 52 after smacking Matt Parkinson to the boundary. His partnership with Rayner is approaching the 100-run mark.
Somerset 163-6 (53.0 overs) v Surrey

"What a recovery. Very much steering Middlesex towards something a lot more respectable. Showing some spirit here these two."

Hampshire skipper George Bailey has battened down the hatches of late, absorbing some pressure from Essex, but he hits the first ball of a Ravi Bopara to the boundary to move to 51 from 79 balls.

Oh to be Essex - the only thing to worry about is whether they can go through the season unbeaten.
Different for Hampshire, with five draws in a row meaning the dreaded 'R' word has been heard in these parts for the first time this season.
Having produced a flat wicket here, the intent is plain for everyone to see: draw and get as many points doing that as possible.
But they are currently in a tricky situation. Batting in September can be testing on any sort of pitch. They'd settle for a couple of batting points now, but will that be enough?
Rivals Yorkshire have started well. But thankfully Middlesex look as though they have work to do, and Somerset are playing at the Oval, so surely that's a draw already!
Funny how a side who never looked like being in trouble for the most of the season, now find themselves looking anxiously at games elsewhere.
Warwickshire 145-7 (19.1 overs) v Yorkshire.
Matthew Fisher traps Ian Bell lbw moments after the Warwickshire man had passed 50. Bell hit nine boundaries and steadied the visitors' ship alongside Jeetan Patel.

Steve Pengilley: Roland-Jones and Rayner keeping Middlesex in the contest here, buck your ideas up Somerset.
Somerset's collapse being matched by Middlesex's resurgence, with Roland-Jones on 31 and Rayner on 21. Their partnership is now worth 62.
Northants 120-7 (46 overs) v Notts
Big wicket for Notts as Harry Gurney has Josh Cobb caught by Riki Wessels for 36. Cobb's partnership with Rory Kleinveldt was holding the away side up, but they're through into the tail now.
