No play possible at Chesterfield, so the Kent squad are playing football instead - a sport more suited to September weather.

  4. wicket

WICKET Voges (lbw b Bailey) 18published at 13:16 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Middlesex 80-5 (30.2 overs) v Lancashire

Commentators don't half bang on about the slope at Lord's, but there is a reason. Tom Bailey uses it to perfection, nipping one back down the slope at Adam Voges to pin the Australian veteran lbw.

    Big wicket after the break.

  5. Lunch donepublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

The early starts of September mean an earlier lunch, so they're already back out in the middle and playing cricket.

After a clatter of wickets in the first 40 minutes will batting continue to get easier this afternoon?

  6. Footitt ruled out with neck injurypublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

Fast bowler Mark Footitt will play no further part in Nottinghamshire's quest for a domestic treble this season, after being ruled out with a neck injury.

Footitt, 31, joined Notts from Surrey earlier this season but has struggled with a persistent neck problem, which sees him unavailable for the final County Championship match against Sussex next week.

"It's really disappointing for him, especially after he started well after what was obviously quite a big move for him, coming back to the club where he started," Notts coach Peter Moores said., external

"There is stress somewhere in his neck which needs sorting out."

  7. 'Good morning for the visitors'published at 12:54 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Somerset 96-1 (28.2 overs) v Surrey

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

A good morning for the visitors. After winning the toss, Marcus Trescothick and Eddie Byrom made full use of the facilities. Trescothick struck 11 boundaries to move to fifty while Byrom played steadily.

But in the over before lunch Gareth Batty trapped Trescothick lbw for 65 with a quicker delivery meaning Surrey will feel a bit happier over their chicken pasta.

  8. No play at Chesterfieldpublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Derbshire v Kent

Unfortunately there will be no play between Derbyshire and Kent at Chesterfield because of a wet outfield. Day one has been abandoned and they'll try again tomorrow.

There were problems last week at Middlesex's outground Uxbridge, and it seems another two sides might be frustrated this week too.

  9. 'Sussex rally after early Durham scalp'published at 12:44 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Sussex 88-1 (30 overs) v Durham

    Matt Newsum
    BBC Sport at Chester-le-Street

Luke Wells and Stiaan van Zyl have helped stabilise Sussex after the early exit of Harry Finch with a partnership of 85, on a bright sunny day at Chester-le-Street.

Durham have bowled with a bit of pace and venom, notably through the disciplined Graham Onions, Chris Rushworth and especially James Weighell who has eked a fair bit of zip from the pitch.

Finch's first ball duck promised much but the skipper Wells and South African van Zyl survived an early onslaught and have got their eye in since, making 46 and 33 runs apiece.

  10. 'Action-packed morning in Cardiff'published at 12:40 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Glamorgan 127-4 (30 overs) v Gloucestershire

    Nick Webb
    BBC Wales Sport in Cardiff

The visitors' seamers quickly justified Phil Mustard's decision to bowl first as wickets fell regularly in Cardiff.

But a half-century stand between the aggressive Chris Cooke and a battling Kiran Carlson has earned some respectability in an action-packed morning.

Nick Selman fell lbw to David Payne second ball, while Colin Ingram was bowled by Liam Norwell for 18 after a tantalising cameo.

And 20-year-old Connor Brown made a confident Championship debut, striking eight fours in 35 off 37 balls before Kieran Noema-Barnett had him lbw.

Aneurin Donald was caught at slip off Payne for 1 before the fight-back from Carlson and Cooke.

    Middlesex 80-4 v Lancashire

    Somerset 96-1 v Surrey

    Warwickshire 53-6 v Yorkshire

    Division Two

Derbyshire v Kent - match delayed by wet outfield

  12. Lunch at Lord'spublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Middlesex 80-4 (29 overs) v Lancashire

A calmer second half of the session at Lord's where Adam Voges (18 not out) and John Simpson (25 not out) go into lunch unbeaten.

  13. Lunch at the Ovalpublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Somerset 96-1 (28.2 overs) v Surrey

And, with that, they go off for lunch at the Oval. Surrey will feel slightly better thanks to that wicket in the final ball of the session. But it's a good morning overall for the visitors.

  14. wicket

WICKET Trescothick (lbw b Batty) 65published at 12:29 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Somerset 96-1 (28.2 overs) v Surrey

He had looked so solid and untroubled, but Marcus Trescothick's impressive innings ends on 65 after 84 balls. It's a clear lbw.

  15. 50 runs

for James Vincepublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Hampshire 99-3 (25.4 overs) v Essex

Well batted James Vince. The Hampshire batsman moves to a half-century from 65 balls at the Ageas Bowl. He's struck nine fours already and looks in good touch after missing the rain-affected game at Uxbridge last week with a hamstring injury.

  16. wicket

WICKET Thomson (b Coad) 0published at 12:25 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Warwickshire 49-6 (28.1 overs) v Yorkshire

  18. wicket

WICKET Ambrose (c Lyth b Coad) 6published at 12:13 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Warwickshire 47-5 v Yorkshire (24.4 overs)

Yorkshire are having a terrific morning session. Ben Coad gets in on the act as Adam Lyth - at second slip - takes another catch. Tim Ambrose adds just six for the already-relegated side.

  19. Who is going down?published at 12:12 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    The relegation battle

Just to remind you how the five relegation-threatened teams lie in the table, here is how it stands in Division One, with 13 points separating five sides prior to today's matches.

Depending on the result of this week's penultimate round of matches, Somerset v Middlesex next week at Taunton sounds like a real humdinger!

However, a couple of bowling bonus points have been earned already.

  20. wicket

WICKET Alsop (b Porter) 34published at 12:07 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Hampshire 85-3 (20.4 overs) v Essex

Tom Alsop had helped take Hampshire out of trouble, putting on 71 runs with James Vince, but he's been bowled by Division One's leading wicket-taker Jamie Porter.

Captain George Bailey is out to join Vince with 23 minutes to go until lunch.
