George D. Wright: Did someone Tarmac over the Oval in April?

Somerset and Marcus Trescothink in particular are going very nicely on that wicket so far this morning. And 10 draws from 12 Division One games this season would suggest Surrey have struggled to force wins this season...

  2. Byrom survives lbw appealpublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Somerset 71-0 (20.2 overs) v Surrey

Surrey think they've made a breakthrough as Gareth Batty's delivery hits Ed Byrom's foot, but the umpire says not out.

  3. Middlesex momentum?published at 12:01 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

Middlesex 62-4 (21 overs) vs Lancashire

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London

"28-4 seems a fair while ago now. This partnership is just settling things down for Middlesex, giving them a foundation at last in this game, but they're going to need an awful lot more than this you fancy."

  4. Bit easier out there nowpublished at 11:59 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Middlesex 58-4 (20.2 overs) v Lancashire

After a very difficult opening 90 minutes or so, it's getting a bit easier for Adam Voges and John Simpson at Lord's.

They've taken the sting out of the game with a partnership of 30 runs.

  5. 50 runs

for Marcus Trescothickpublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Somerset 68-0 (19 overs) v Surrey

Marcus Trescothick makes it to yet another first-class 50 and 44 of his runs have come from boundaries. Fair play!

That's his 123rd first-class half ton. Not bad going, eh?

  6. Division Two updatepublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

Sussex are moving slowly along against Durham, with Luke Wells (30 not out) and Stiaan van Zyl (13 not out) at the crease and the score on 45-1 from 18.3 overs.

Gloucestershire are chipping away at the Glamorgan batting line-up, with the home side 71-4 from 18 overs. Chris Cooke and Kiran Carlson are at the crease.

Fingers crossed for Derbyshire and Kent who are still waiting for the outfield to dry at Chesterfield.

Will Ireland: Justice if Middlesex or Yorks get the drop this year. At least Middlesex won't be looking for an early handshake at Taunton.

Middlesex really could do with a win against Lancashire in this round before they head to Taunton for a possible relegation showdown.

  8. wicket

WICKET Lamb (c Hodd b Patterson) 4published at 11:42 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Warwickshire 34-4 (17.4 overs) v Yorkshire

Warwickshire are reminding us all why their relegation was confirmed as early as last week. Matthew Lamb edges behind and goes for four, after facing three balls.

Yorkshire are giving themselves a good chance of picking up a vital win to boost their bid to avoid the drop.

  9. wicket

WICKET Levi (lbw b Wood) 35published at 11:40 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Northants 60-4 (13.5 overs) v Notts

Richard Levi is the fourth Northants batsman to fall and the third to Luke Wood, who wins another lbw appeal. Notts are well on top at Wantage Road.

  10. Batting tricky at Lord'spublished at 11:37 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Middlesex 54-4 (15 overs) v Lancashire

    Kevin Howells
    BBC Test Match Special

"We're on all week folks but looking at this score I don't think we will be... just a couple of days of this mayhem."

Batting certainly looks difficult on this green-tinged Lord's pitch. It's seaming around for Lancashire's seamers.

  11. wicket

WICKET Banks (c Hodd b Fisher) 13published at 11:36 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Warwickshire 29-3 (16.4 overs) v Yorkshire

Liam Banks made 13 from 46 balls but as he is caught behind off the bowling of Matthew Fisher, Warwickshire look in big trouble at 29-3.

  12. Vince gets goingpublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Hampshire 64-2 (14 overs) v Essex

    James VinceImage source, Rex Features

James Vince is a player who scores a lot of runs in boundaries and he seems to have go his eye in at the Ageas Bowl now after a difficult start for the home side.

The Hampshire batsman moves onto 28 with 15 runs off a Sam Cook over. His partner Tom Alsop has 28 from 32 balls.

  13. Postpublished at 11:23 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Somerset 39-0 (12.0 overs) v Surrey

Jade Dernbach and Rikki Clarke have had a good spell in the past few overs but Somerset are still looking OK and they remain without loss after 12 overs, with the veteran performer Marcus Trescothick up to 28 and looking fairly comfortable.

Jonno Brocklebank: Most disappointed to see that Ryan Sidebottom won't be bowling to Ryan Sidebottom...and vice versa.

A real shame indeed Jonno. No curly hair in sight with Warwickshire's Australian bowler...

  15. 'Essex make early inroads'published at 11:20 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Hampshire 41-2 (10 overs) v Essex

    Kevan James
    Sport Presenter, BBC Radio Solent

The wicket at the Ageas Bowl looks as though it will be a flat one throughout the four days, which suggests that Hampshire, who have left out Mason Crane, may have settled for a draw.

The only problem is that in mid-September as a batting side you need to get through the first couple of hours at least.

Jamie Porter and Sam Cook have already made inroads, getting the ball to seam around to dismiss Jimmy Adams and Joe Weatherley.

Cook, 20, playing just his eighth first-class match looks the spitting image of Porter. Runs in the same, bowling action the same. He's not a bad bowler to model yourself on!

  16. wicket

WICKET Malan (c Davies b Bailey) 12published at 11:18 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Middlesex 28-4 (10.2 overs) v Lancashire

Dawid Malan is not happy, but he's got to go. Tom Bailey strikes for a second time this morning at Lord's, having the England man caught behind by Alex Davies.

Middlesex in real strife now. Captain Adam Voges comes out to bat.

  17. wicket

WICKET Wakely (c Wessels b Hutton) 13published at 11:16 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Northants 38-3 (9 overs) v Notts

Notts' strength and depth is very good indeed. There's no Stuart Broad and James Pattinson is long gone, but in Brett Hutton and Luke Wood they have two very good seamers.

The former is in on the act now, having Alex Wakely caught by Riki Wessels.

  18. 'Middlesex in all sorts of trouble'published at 11:12 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Middlesex 25-3 (9 overs) v Lancashire

    Isabelle Duncan
    BBC Test Match Special

"Middlesex are in all sorts of trouble here having won the toss and elected to bat.

"The 'gritty' Eskinazi has edged to leave Middlesex three down."

  19. wicket

WICKET Trott (c Lyth b Brooks) 1published at 11:10 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Warwickshire 10-2 (10.1 overs) v Yorkshire

Jack Brooks has another wicket, as Jonathan Trott goes for one run off his third ball, caught by Adam Lyth.

Yorkshire have started very well in the field.

Warwickshire have started like, well, Warwickshire.

  20. 'Vintage Trescothick'published at 11:10 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Somerset 35-0 (9.0 overs) v Surrey

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

A good toss for Somerset to win. This looks another belting surface in South London and we have already seen a couple of vintage Marcus Trescothick drives.

Surrey have gone into the game with the extra seamer. Somerset unsurprisingly have Mr Leach and Mr Bess in their XI.
