    Hampshire 254 & 50-8 (23.5 overs) v Essex 76 & 362

Neil Wagner gets in on the act, drawing the edge from Gareth Berg with one angled across the right-hander, with Varun Chopra catching it at first slip.

Hampshire are still four runs short of their lowest ever total against Essex, made in 1931.

  2. Bad light stops play at Cardiffpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Glamorgan 442 & 342-3 (76 overs) v Gloucestershire 399-8d

Nick Selman and Chris Cooke have to go off at Cardiff as the dark clouds close in. It doesn't matter an awful lot to be honest, with a draw almost certain.

  3. 6 runs

Berg gives Hampshire fans something to cheerpublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Hampshire 254 & 47-7 (22.1 overs) v Essex 76 & 362

Gareth Berg gets to the pitch of one from Simon Harmer and clobbers it over the top for six to move onto 8 and near the top of the Hampshire run-scorers list.

A sarcastic cheer goes around the Ageas Bowl.

  4. Tea at the Ovalpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Somerset 269 & 306 v Surrey 433

They've gone off for tea at the Oval. When they return, Somerset will need 10 wickets to win, while Surrey will need 143 runs to win.

  5. wicket

WICKET Dawson (b Harmer) 10published at 14:49 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Hampshire 254 & 37-7 (20.1 overs) v Essex 76 & 362

The good news for Liam Dawson is that he has the joint-highest score for Hampshire in this innings. The bad news is he's been bowled by Simon Harmer's first ball.

The Essex off-spinner moves onto 67 wickets for the season, three behind team mate Jamie Porter. Those lowest totals (see 14:32 post) may be in danger.

    Well left Liam.

    Breaking

    WICKET: Bess (c Foakes b Clarke) 35

A fine effort from Dom Bess ends and Surrey will need 143 to win from 39 overs. Interesting!

  7. Hampshire missing Carberry?published at 14:44 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Hampshire 254 & 37-6 (19 overs) v Essex 76 & 362

    Kevan James
    Sport Presenter, BBC Radio Solent

Chasing 185 for victory was, at the start of the Hampshire innings, always going to be at the top end of what they would have liked to have chased.

But oh dear. Jamie Porter and particularly Sam Cook have ripped through the top order. The ball has nipped around off the seam throughout the game - even more so when it's new.

Whatever the outcome of this game, the top order of Hampshire's batting needs some surgery next year. Michael Carberry going to Leicestershire has angered one or two fans - and on this performance (and several others this season) their concerns are certainly valid.

  8. 5 live sports extra switches to the Ovalpublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Somerset 268 & 299-9 (90 overs overs) v Surrey 433

With Somerset leading by 135, BBC Radio 5 live sports extra has joined the game at the Oval.

  9. wicket

WICKET Leach (c Clarke b Batty) 15published at 14:37 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Somerset 269 & 290-9 (89 overs) v Surrey 433

Jack Leach edges to Rikki Clarke and Somerset are nine down. The lead is 126.

Dom Bess (32 not out) is batting really well. Clarke now enters Surrey's attack.

Mick Melville-Reed: Frustrating season just being summed up at Durham for Sussex. Just want it to end now!!!

Sussex fans understandably annoyed by the weather in the north east, which held off all morning before chucking down a deluge when the visitors needed just one more wicket to win.

  11. Targets for Hampshirepublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Hampshire 254 & 31-6 (16 overs) v Essex 76 & 362

With Hampshire struggling terribly against the champions, here are some targets for them to get past and save some face.

    • 54 - Hampshire's lowest score against Essex, made way back in 1931.
    • 61 - the lowest total in the County Championship this season, made by Gloucestershire against Kent in April.

    Baby steps lads.

  12. Latest from Cardiffpublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Glamorgan 442 & 255-2 (62.0 overs) v Gloucestershire 399-8d

With Glamorgan 298 runs ahead and the match surely set for a draw, Nick Selman is on an impressive 116 not out for the hosts, from 184 balls.

Peter Macqueen: if things keep going this way for Essex & Hampshire, Reece Topley is going to be feeling a bit green i suspect....

Topley junior is not playing, but his father Don is in the hot seat on commentary at the Ageas Bowl.

  14. Somerset lead by 100published at 14:20 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Somerset 269 & 264-8 (85.1 overs) v Surrey 433

Dom Bess and Jack Leach at the crease, Somerset's lead has grown to 100.

  15. wicket

WICKET Vince (lbw b Cook) 8published at 14:20 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Hampshire 254 & 29-6 (13.3 overs) v Essex 76 & 362

This just keeps getting worse and worse for Hampshire. James Foster is up to the stumps, meaning James Vince has to bat back in his crease. The ploy works straight away as Sam Cook claims his fourth wicket, trapping the former captain lbw.

Essex are champions for a reason, but this is really poor stuff from Hampshire.

  16. 'Most impressive Northants' win in several years'published at 14:16 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

Northants beat Notts by 124 runs

    Alex Winter
    BBC Radio Northampton sport

What a fine victory this is for Northamptonshire - their most impressive for several years, certainly since their promotion year of 2013, and first against Nottinghamshire since 2002.

The game was wonderfully poised this morning but Northants' four-pronged seam attack bowled superbly to blow Notts away, with Rory Kleinveldt completing a wonderful match with figures of 13-98 and 92 runs.

It sets up a fascinating final week of the season with Northants 13 points behind Notts with Worcestershire six clear at the top. Can Northants get up right on the line?

  17. wicket

WICKET Ervine (lbw b Porter) 5published at 14:14 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Hampshire 254 & 25-5 (12.3 overs) v Essex 76 & 362

Oh dear, oh dear. Sean Ervine misjudges a very full delivery from Jamie Porter and is hit in front of his stumps. Hampshire really lacking some grit and application from their top order.

James Vince remains unbeaten on 8, but if they are going to get to 185 he'll need help from the lower order.

PD31: Division 1 is crazy this year. Yorkshire go from brink of relegation to (temporarily) 3rd in the table after that narrow win.

Yorkshire fans both relieved and unhappy it seems with their narrow win over already-relegated Warwickshire.

  19. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Sussex 346 & 302 v Durham 385 & 131-9 (41.2 overs)

Durham held on and have been blessed by the rain clouds at Chester-le-Street. Sussex will be absolutely gutted if they don't get to go back out and wrap up a win that they definitely deserve.

Brydon Carse and Graham Onions will be doing a rain-dance in the Riverside dressing room.

Ralph Brooker: As we kiss goodbye to Carberry I had a feeling this game might go pear-shaped up top!

Hampshire fans beginning to get very worried indeed, following wins for Middlesex and Yorkshire.
