Daily Mirror journalist Dean Wilson: "I don't know if that will be quite enough for England, I think they are a bit light. You would hope they would have learned from the way Tye bowled."

Richard Barter: I really do love this England ODI team, but not getting to your allotted 50 overs for a second consecutive innings is criminal.

It has been one of those performances when the batsmen have got going but lost wickets at poor times and with poor shots.

The shot selection will haunt the batsmen. Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler stick out for their shots.

Credit to Andrew Tye. He is deservedly walking off with five wickets.

So what sort of score is that for England? With Jason Roy in full flow the 50 came up in the sixth over, but only one individual fifty for Root after each of the top four got starts. There were 18 fours and six sixes in there but will 259 be enough to seal a 4-1 series win?

Ball b Tye 0 (Eng 259 all out)

The last man, coming in just above the byes as PG Wodehouse used to say, is Jake Ball and he is beaten all ends up by a Tye slower ball, who takes 5-46 at this new venue. England all out for 259 with 14 deliveries unused.

That was good bowling again from Tye. He is using his variations.

He is really suited to this pitch because when you change the pace up it sticks in the wicket and looks difficult to time.

  7. wicket

    Root c Warner b Tye 62 (Eng 258-9)

A fourth wicket for Tye, who was confused the batsmen with his variations of pace. Root holes out to the safe hands of Warner at long-on, not the first time he has been the victim of Warner's hands.

Two overs left for Starc at the end of the innings, after 1-53 from his first eight, and what a shot from Curran, moving over to the off-side, crouching down to a 91mph full toss and scooping it over the wicketkeeper's head for six as if it were a looping leg-spinner.

    Run-rate 5.39

Tom Curran is the new batsman and he gets off the mark by swatting one into the leg side from the final ball of the over, although that will keep Root off strike.

England need someone stay with Joe Root here and David Willey has gone for a big shot.

The catch might not look that spectacular but he stuck his hand out just before to tell Stoinis it was his catch.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 45.4 overs

    Willey c Marsh b Tye 2 (Eng 245-8)

Rather like the dismissal of Roy, the hand comes off the bat as he goes for the big one and it goes to mid-wicket, where Marsh takes a fine catch over his shoulder - and luckily there is no collision with the on-rushing Stoinis, who was considering a lunge for it.

Anything above 280 and you are in the game.

You don't know how much the pitch might deteriorate. It might spin a bit more and be difficult to attack in the middle overs. England will be looking for 280-plus.

Josh Hazlewood has conceded seven fours but only a handful of singles are scored in this one.

Left-hander David Willey is the new man. He used to open in T20, what can he do today in the six overs that remain?

There was a touch of hesitation right at the start of the run. That has cost Rashid his wicket.

Rashid run out (Smith) 12 (Eng 238-7)

The end of Rashid and it comes in spectacular fashion, Smith pouncing on the ball like a cat on a mouse at short cover and throwing down the stumps at the bowler's end, the bails flying into the air and lighting up in the bright Western Australian sunshine.

Steve Stone: Moeen has been working hard in the nets on his batting I see!

David Cundall: Time for Yorkshire to rescue England (again).

Bairdy: So, Moeen appears to have walked straight past the nets...... You have to ask why he keeps getting selected when he's so woefully out of form.

50 for Rootpublished at 43 overs

    Eng 234-6

Newport County fans will soon be experiencing that Wembley walk. Thank goodness for Harry Kane some might say. Back in Perth another golden boy, Root, records the first international fifty at the Optus, his 26th in 102 ODIa. He reaches the landmark half century with a boundary off Hazlewood that yorks the third man fielder.
