Target 260
A modest series average of 14 for Warner. It's higher than Moeen's though, his is only 12. Both men soon off to the IPL. Head keeps the scoreboard moving with a pair of twos, flicking Willey off his legs.

I find this bizarre when Smith has batted number three for a large amount of his career. I would have imagined he would take responsibility.
Stoinis has an opportunity.
Target 260
Stoinis has made two fifties in the series and he is sent in at number three. Four dots to begin with and a good response from Curran, who was hit for four from the opening ball of that over.

It was a ripper. Not to be for David Warner. It almost beat him for pace. A huge wicket for England.
Warner b Curran 15 (Aus 24-1)
A perfect yorker from Curran gives England hope, rattling through the defences of Warner with a hint of swing and into the timbers. The young Surrey bowler celebrates exuberantly and makes sure Warner sees it.

I love to see Jake Ball with the new ball in his hand. When he is in form he is a beautiful bowler and will extract any movement out of this surface but I think he is out of favour with this England squad.
Warner 11, Head 4
Warner thumps Willey over mid-off to the boundary as Australia continue to make England pay for that dropped catch.

I am going to give Bairstow a bit of an excuse because Buttler moved and could have taken that himself but it was an easy chance.
Aus 15-0 (target 260)
A much-changed England side, no Wood or Plunkett and it's young Tom Curran who takes the other new ball, with two slips in place. Jonny Bairstow does not have the gloves and is the first of those slips. The lunge from Head flies straight to him off the edge but he fumbles it.

I wonder how much these big stands will keep out the wind, the Freemantle Doctor that was at the Waca. I love the stadium, it reminds me a bit of the Gabba and the MCG and the stadiums in the UAE.
Target 260
Immediate swing away from the left-hander from David Willey but it's some distance away from the intended line too and called a wide. Willey played in two T20 warm-up matches to test out this ground last month and took wickets in both, but is thumped through the covers for four by Travis Head.
Now the players are out in the centre, the sun is still beating down and left-arm quick David Willey is doing some in-depth limbering up exercises as he prepares to send down the first over.

Someone had to do it....a new ground remember, no-one has chased anything in an official 50-over match at the Optus.
Day two of the IPL auction is under way, then, but one of the stories of yesterday was the big-money signing of 22-year-old Jofra Archer.
The Sussex all-rounder was signed by Rajasthan Royals for £800,000, more than Jos Buttler.
He has starred in the Big Bash this season but remains relatively unknown to many sports fans while he also says he wants to play for England despite being born in Barbados.

Not the best with the bat this morning for England and it hasn't been too good a morning for their players in the IPL auction either.
Eoin Morgan, Alex Hales, David Willey and Tymal Mills have gone unsold so far on day two.
Chris Jordan has been the only England player to be signed this morning. He he joined Sunrisers Hyderabad for £110,000.
Andrew Tye, meanwhile, about 10 minutes after taking his fifth wicket in this match, has just earned a £790,000 pay-day by being signed by Kings XI Punjab.
There's an interesting story on the Telegraph website which has been published in the last few hours, in which Nick Hoult says Australia and England's cricket chiefs are in talks to try and make the Ashes more competitive.
“It is about cricket full stop," said Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland. "We all want to win every game we play but we also need to accept that cricket is a better game when it is competitive."

Daily Mirror journalist Dean Wilson on the out-of-form Moeen Ali: "I do agree that confidence plays a huge amount in the way he performs. That carefree spirit allows him to go with the flow and likewise it's a bit of a vicious circle down to the bottom. A bit of the problem he has is when there is a lot of pressure and expectation on him to perform.
"Moeen Ali in England is still a hugely dangerous proposition and I think we will see that this summer. The physical and mental exertion could take its toll."

Sam Ottley: I hate to be harsh but Willey and Moeen aren't good enough at any level for England
Australia's Andrew Tye speaking on TMS: "Now I have got a couple of wickets under my belt I have relaxed a bit and today was awesome.
"The stadium is elite, one of the best in the world. It is first time we have played here not we are not sure par, above or below but we will watchful to start and try get over the line."
