Ball tried to dig it in and rush Stoinis but it sat up nicely for the batsman. He hit that with both feet off the ground too, giving it everything. I love that.

Jake Ball can't quite back up Rashid's good work. It's a bouncer but too wide. Stoinis gives it everything and the ball flies off the top edge over this short boundary for six.

You get the sense that they want to come at England and get this done. You feel if they get the measure of the pitch it could be dangerous.

  4. Aus 80-1published at 13 overs

    Head 22, Stoinis 38

A third of the ground is in shade now as these high stands block out the sun. A much better over this time than his previous effort from Rashid. Just two singles come off it. Can England start to build some pressure with dots? The Aussies have been able to find the rope easily so far.

Ball has got good pace up, 142k's already.

  6. Aus 78-1published at 12 overs

That's a good point, Ben. England missed Woakes with the bat and could do with him with the ball here.

Jake Ball, into the team in his place, is on and almost gets a wicket early on as Head nearly drags a pull shot down onto his stumps.

More frustration for Ball. A decent delivery and Head just guides it through fine third man for four.

Ben Wire: You don't know who you've got until you drop them: we're really feeling the absence of Woakes. Our player of this one day series, surely?

It's a large outfield and Australia have been conservative when it comes to taking on the fielder's arm. I admired the way players like Jonny Bairstow would really push it for an extra run.

  9. Aus 72-1published at 11 overs

    Stoinis 36, Head 16

Stoinis could take this game away from England very quickly. Everything looks to be coming out of the middle of his bat. He adds three more to end the over and that measn nine runs come from Rashid's first effort.

Australia are now ahead of where England were at the same stage.

  10. Aus 67-1published at 10.2 overs

He showed brute power a couple of overs ago but this is nice timing from Marcus Stoinis. Too wide from Rashid and it whistles to the boundary.

Australia are comfortable at the moment. The ball is coming on nicely so England need to create some magic, perhaps it'll come from Adil Rashid.

    Thanks Jamie.

How big was that six from Stoinis?! Huuuge.

England need wickets. Eoin Morgan is turning to Adil Rashid for the breakthrough.

  13. Aus 63-1published at 10 overs

    Target 260

Head clips Curran off his pads for two to keep the scoreboard moving fluently and the required rate is under five. England were 66-0 at the same stage but the remainder of their innings did not go according to plan. To see what happens in this one, it's over to Matt Henry.

I fancy it might be Rashid who causes the problems, rather than Moeen - much like Zampa was more effective than Maxwell when Australia bowled.

Now then Moeen. Only averaging 12 with the bat and on he comes for the first spin of the innings. The muscular Stoinis soon sweeps a loose one away for the seventh boundary of the innings to bring up the fifty and then comes down the wicket to launch it over long-on, deep into the second tier, measured at 119m, the biggest of the day.

  16. Aus 47-1published at 8 overs

    Target 260

The first hand off the bat of the innings, we saw a few in the England innings that led to wickets but this one lands safely and then Stoinis seizes on a Curran back of the hand slower ball to thump another emphatic boundary, his third. Shades of Jade there, Curran's Surrey teammate.

It is almost like David Willey is searching for too much swing. He is just struggling.

  18. Aus 41-1published at 7 overs

    Target 260

It certainly is an impressive stadium, with plenty of room and unobstructed views and the pitch, although it looks a little peculiar, has played very well so far. A fearsome straight drive from Stoinis, Willey sticks a tentative hand out but it scorches past him.

I love Perth, it's one of my favourite place in the world - it's so laid back and chilled.

  20. Aus 32-1published at 6 overs

    Target 260

Curran again, hair neatly gelled back and shaved at the sides. Stoinis off the mark in fine style with an extravagant wristy flick to the square-leg boundary, in the manner of the great Indian batsmen my dear old dad loves watching.
