  1. Ind 59-0published at 7.4 overs

Width from Moeen Ali, and Rohit Sharma is irked with himself as he only flicks it for a single.

Oh, that'll be four, though! Down goes Shikhar Dhawan and he watches the ball all the way, sweeping hard toward long leg.

  2. Ind 53-0published at 7 overs

The umpires have found a ball that hasn't just been thwacked into the stands, and Rohit Sharma promptly defends it towards backward point.

It's been an excellent start for India...

Rohit Sharma hit that six so hard that it's ruined the ball.

On comes the umpire with the suitcase...

Dearie me, Rohit Sharma is making this look easy.

It's an 88mph delivery from Mark Wood but it's full, sitting up and asking to be hit, and Rohit obliges. He pushes his arms forward and sends the ball flying over mid-off and into the third row of the stand.

  6. Ind 46-0published at 6.1 overs

Mark Wood is going to come round the wicket to Shikhar Dhawan, and he's promptly flicked for a single by the India opener.

    Shot!

Oh, it was all going so well for Moeen Ali. Right up until Rohit Sharma rocked back and bunted a full ball through the covers and away to the boundary. That's a tremendous bit of placement, pushing the ball right between the two fielders.

Eoin Morgan's had enough of this.

    Here's Moeen Ali.

It's been a good start from India. Dhawan looks in really good touch and Eoin Morgan has called for an early change.

  11. Ind 37-0published at 5 overs

    England have a problem here.

That'll be four more for Shikhar Dhawan, a leggy short ball helped on its way to the fine leg boundary.

Just the 12 from the over for Dhawan...

That's rubbish from Mark Wood and he knows it, the bowler toppling over in his follow through yet again and looking up just in time to see a leggy delivery get ticked down to third man.

Close, but it'll be four! Shikhar Dhawan's gone with hard hards, getting a thick inside edge that flies down the pitch, and the ball runs just past Wood's outstretched hand.

It's coming on to the bat nicely, they know it might get trickier as the innings goes on and they are making really good use of it.

  15. Eng 24-0published at 4 overs

Shikhar Dhawan has taken a liking to David Willey.

Again, it's on the stumps from Willey, a bit too straight, and Dhawan flicks him through mid-wicket with ease. Willey readjusts, thudding the ball into Dhawan's pads but it's too high to trouble either the batsman or the umpire.

  16. Ind 19-0published at 3 overs

    Target 269

Now then. There's a noise as Shikhar Dhawan lets a short ball from Mark Wood go through to Jos Buttler behind the stumps.

Buttler appeals, the slips appeals and Wood, once he gets back to his feet after fallign over again, appeals, but there's nothing doing. It's clipped the arm guard. As you were.

    Four more!

This time, David Willey spears the ball onto the pads of Shikhar Dhawan, and it's oh so easy for the batsman to turn his wrists and push the ball through square. Ben Stokes dives despairingly in an attempt to stop the ball and ends up clattering into the rope.

It's just slightly too full from Willey. On a flat dry wicket, even when you are trying to swing the ball you have still got to bowl a good length, you can't bowl every ball full.

  19. Ind 12-0published at 1.4 overs

David Willey will take the other new ball for England. Oh, and that'll be four, Shikhar Dhawan plonking his foot down the pitch and cracking a glorious drive through the covers.

Whoops. Same ball, same result for Willey. Not entirely sure he meant to do that...

    Stumped

The first thing Dawid Malan did on arrival at the ground this morning was speak to the Stumped podcast team. He has been called up to the squad to cover for the injured Alex Hales, but is not expecting to play too much.

"I think the only way I am getting in is if someone falls down the stairs or if three people fall down," joked Malan.
