All of this means that again I'm going to have to find something to talk about during this wet Test match.

How are you filling the time?

Maybe you've got your own rain delays at club games around the country? Send us pictures if you have.

  3. Interval - Early lunch takenpublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 12 August 2018

Lunch has been taken early so there certainly won't be any play for the next 40 minutes.

I'll bring you updates of the news we all want to hear as soon as I can - what's on the Lord's lunch menu today?

Prabhanjan Badami‏: As was the case in 2014, India have looked amateurish with the bat in hand. In fact, India's Test match batting has looked insipid throughout 2018 while the bowling has always looked competitive.

Ed White: Obviously there have been players with greater statistics, but has there been a cricketer with a better combined batting and bowling technique than Chris Woakes? Textbook.

Dave Amitri: This is all very good and Jimmy is a genius in these conditions. What do we do to reproduce this overseas? I'd give Jimmy the winter off so we can get him in prime condition for Ashes. I'd also play the fastest bowler we have in next 3 tests and 2 spinners.

Aleem Dar is not a fan of the rain, it would seem. He was also having a bit of trouble with his hat, which kept blowing off in the wind.

Rain stops play - Ind 17-2published at 12:30 British Summer Time 12 August 2018

That's it I'm afraid. The umpires have had enough. Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and the rest of the Indian team can breathe a sigh of relief. They won't have to face James Anderson for a while at least.

    On come the covers.

I'm not sure how much longer the umpires can keep them out in this. Ajinkya Rahane will be desperate to get into the dry. He survives the latest Anderson over. His team-mate Kl Rahul didn't manage that earlier...

    Rachel T: Jimmy Anderson. Unplayable!

Chris H: Jimmy Anderson now just 12 wickets behind Glenn McGrath. He'll replace him as leading wicket-taking seamer of all time in this series.

  9. Appeal - Not outpublished at 8.3 overs

You're bowling too well for your own good now Jimmy. That's moved too far to leg. England appeal loudly but Aleem Dar shakes his head. Joe Root is trying desperately to keep this ball dry.

The rain looks to be getting a little heavier to me.

Virat Kohli has got his bat in his hand in the dressing room. It looks like he'll almost certainly come out to bat. Woakes makes a tidy start but is probably just a little too short.

    The groundstaff are poised again.

Chris Woakes is going to get an early bowl. He must be brimming with confidence. Broad off. Woakes on.

We think Virat Kohli will be able to come out to bat after about 12:23 BST. That's when he will have served his time. That's if he wants to of course. We haven't had any news how bad this back injury is. Rahane is off the mark. There are still rain drops around but play doesn't look like being stopped yet.

This is a ball that comes down the slope a little bit but it’s not great batting. The leg slip England had just put in had also got into the mind of KL Rahul, but it’s not great batting – he’s just missed it.

There is so much expertise in this line-up at scoring in their own backyard, but they are looking amateurish. It's starting to look like they are going to get blown away at every opportunity.

Thirty seven minutes of play have not passed. Virat Kohli - off the field while England batted this morning with a back injury - cannot come out to bat yet. Vice captain Ajinkya Rahane takes his place at number four.

Rahul lbw Anderson 10 (Ind 13-2)

Plumb. He's just so good. James Anderson finds more movement back into the batsman off the pitch and the ball clatters into KL Rahul's pad. Anderson's appeal is more a celebration. He knows it's absolutely out. Rahul just shakes his head and walks off. He doesn't even think of a review.

  19. Ind 13-1published at 6 overs

It's still nowhere near as gloomy as last night or the start of India's first innings despite the cloud cover. Broad continues to probe but it's causing the same excitement that Anderson is.

I think England should have bowled straight away, perfect conditions, fragile top order, Virat Kohli’s got a dodgy back. I just cannot understand why they didn’t want to bowl at 11:00. But I still think England are going to win.
