The groundstaff are now all hard at work. There is a bit of water on the covers but they have their brooms out sweeping that away. It looks a little brighter too.

India will resume on 17-2 at 14:00 BST. Play can now go on until 19:30 tonight.

I think we should remember how hard it is to play conditions away from home next time England are struggling on the sub continent. India are an amazing team, but are looking shell shocked at the moment..

There is just very light rain still falling. The covers are firmly on. There is no sign of play imminent.

I can confirm Amy is very rarely optimistic. Play is scheduled to restart at 13:10 BST which is when the early lunch should have ended but the covers are still on. It is still raining. There may be more play but it isn't imminent.

I'm going to be optimistic, which is unusual for me, and say we will play again. It's still gloomy out there but the rain isn't as heavy as it was and I think we should get enough of a dry spell to squeeze some more play in. Mind you, that could just be the frankly excellent Lord's lunch speaking...

So England did eventually come out to bowl in this morning session, just 40 minutes later than many fans wanted.

India started their innings training by 289 runs. We only managed to squeeze in nine overs before the play was stopped for rain but that was enough time for James Anderson to take two wickets.

Murali Vijay and KL Rahul can already pack their bags. They could cope with Anderson.

That left Chris Woakes not out on 137. He received a great reception from the Lord's crowd as he made his way off the field.

Much to many fans' frustration, England batted on for 40 minutes this morning rather than declaring.

The conditions were excellent for bowling and Mohammed Shami in particular bowled some excellent deliveries.

Chris Woakes lived a little dangerously...

But after playing his way in Sam Curran went on the attack. He hit this remarkable six...

Eventually Curran went for one shot too many and was caught in the deep for a decent 40.

That was the moment Joe Root declared.
