Brilliant day for India. They started the day poorly, losing wickets and bowling really badly until lunch. Then they blew England away with marvellous bowling - not so good batting. Then in the final session it looked as though England were flat.

A nod and a smile from Kohli to Stokes. He's not interested.

That's India's best day in England for a very long time.

It's going to be a chirpy India team bus on the way back to the hotel. It's not a long drive but they will be happy and smiling.

  4. Ind 124-2published at 30.2 overs

    Pujara 33, Kohli 8

Ben Stokes will bowl the final over and will continue with the bouncer ploy. Kohli blocks the first ball in front of his throat and leaves the second.

I still think that was out and I know many of you disagree.

The floodlights are still on but completely unnecessarily. It's lovely in Nottingham now. Anderson beats Pujara with his final ball of the day and just has a grumpy frown on his face. Just not his day.

I hope England say 'we were awful today and went too hard at the ball' I hope they don't say the Joe Root catch changed the game.

    India 292 ahead

Jonny Bairstow can breathe a sigh of relief. There was no edge. His drop hasn't cost England.

  8. Ind 124-2published at 28.4 overs

    He hasn't has he?

England continue with the short stuff to Kohli by Stokes. There are yelps of catch as Kohli swishes at a hook but Bairstow spills a simple take. Stokes' head rocks back.

We'll have to wait for UltraEdge.

Speaking of picking fights, what did you make of this? Chris Woakes wasn't impressed with Adil Rashid's efforts in the field. I'm sure they'll have forgotten all about it by tonight.

Anderson bowls another quiet over. Nine minutes of suffering left today for England.

It's easy to pick fights with each other but England have to regroup tonight and work out a way a) to get back in the game and b) try to win it somehow.

Jack: Sorry but all series I've been saying Root's a clueless captain and never get published. He shows zero confidence in his leg spinner. It's out of hand. He dismissed Kohli first innings and now gets hooked after taking a wicket. It's getting ridiculous. He's a hopeless captain.

Stokes and Root have called for the helmet and said the words no one wants to hear with 15 minutes left to Ollie Pope - "can you go in at short leg please, mate".

Stokes is going to try and bounce out Pujara and Kohli with a leg slip also in position.

In fairness to Stokes he gets the ball through at some decent pace but Pujara doesn't go for the pull shot this time - the shot that was his downfall in the first innings.

The batsmen have to score runs and if they can't do that just don't get out, you've got to bat at least 90-100 overs. To be putting your bowling shoes on 38 overs later when they are still warm and sweaty is a horrible feeling.

  16. Ind 119-2published at 26 overs

    Pujara 32, Kohli 4

No joy for Anderson. This ball isn't swinging. There are 17 minutes left in the day's play and we still have 15 overs to bowl. Pathetic.

Jimmy Anderson is coming back on. Adil Rashid has been replaced despite bamboozling Dhawan a few moments ago...

Fair play to the young lad with the blue cap in the crowd who is still watching this game intently. He'll have to sit through a few more England collapses like today in the future I'm sure.

There's no rain forecast in the next three days by the way. The weather won't save England.

You've got to keep the faith and believe you can still win this game. If the sun comes out tomorrow this will be a good pitch to bat on. But the batsmen have let down the bowlers. To be bowling again by teatime on day two - no wonder they look grumpy.
