  1. Ind 50-0published at 9 overs

Ollie Pope throws himself to his left in an attempt to pull off a stunning catch but can't get there. It might have brushed his finger tip but we won't call that a drop.

The 50-partnership is up after nine overs.

Jimmy Anderson has been replaced by Chris Woakes. May as well save Jimmy for the next game.

They've all got fancy cars, they want to get into fifth gear too easily, they need to get an old banger! Just play low risk cricket shots and try to bat a period of time.

    Dhawan 15, Rahul 31

It's not often you have an atmosphere like this in England. Rahul hits his sixth boundary in this short innings and there are just a few claps from a handful of India fans.

    The run-rate is 5.75.

It's understandable but it looks like Anderson is tired. His batsmen have let him down and given the senior pair no time at all to rest up.

  6. Ind 41-0published at 7.1 overs

I've just been shown another stat. Keaton Jennings has edged 10% of balls he has faced in the last 12 months in Tests. Ouch.

Dhawan was just sliced four more runs but you'd hardly know it because Trent Bridge is silent.

There were some decent balls for the England batsmen but a number that you could have played better, mentally and technically. Their mindset doesn't seem to be able to cope with that.

  8. Ind 37-0published at 7 overs

    Lead by 205

I think that's the most frustrating thing about England. It just keeps happening. Today is the third time in two years they have been bowled out in a session. It hadn't happened in the 80 years previously.

Rahul is rattling along like he's batting in a one-day innings. Two lovely drives take his strike-rate over 100.

No joy for Broad in his latest over. India's lead is almost 200.

The collapse doesn't surprise me because of the way that they play. As soon as they are under pressure and there is a little bit there in the pitch they have so much fragility. They have so much talent too but the collapses are happening on a regular basis now.

  12. Ind 28-0published at 5 overs

You have to feel sorry for Jimmy Anderson. Aged 36, on the brink of becoming Test cricket's most successful quick bowler, he deserves better than having to constantly try and drag his team back into matches. I'm sure he'd mind being able to put his feet up just a couple of times a series.

He has a face like thunder throughout bowling a maiden.

Street-wise cricketers would have seen Ashwin was injured - see off Shami, see off Ishant and see off Hardik because they didn't have a spinner.

More runs for Rahul. More rubbish from England. Short and wide from Broad and the India opener piles in and collects four, his second of the over. India coach Ravi Shastri watches on from the dressing room. His expression has hardly changed but he must be as delighted as England are disappointed.

England need to stay out there as long as possible in these conditions. They need to try and bowl India out for 160 so they can chase 330 in the last innings.

There aren't many smiles on the faces of the England fielders. The crowd are pretty quiet too. Alastair Cook tries to keep Jimmy Anderson going with some encouragement from slip.

Rahul again looks to attack on the final ball with a big swish and almost players on. Anderson has a word with the opener. I don't think he liked that shot.

Eye contact between the umpires. Not sure the light meter has been brought out yet but they are looking a bit twitchy.
