  1. wicket

WICKET Croft c Twohig b Parnell 14published at 17:24 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Lancashire 27-3 v Worcestershire 222

Worcestershire have taken every chance that's come their way, and now Steven Croft is dismissed.

Just as it seems Wayne Parnell is close to being replaced he forces an edge which is expertly taken low at gully by Ben Twohig.

Lancs 27-3, with wicketkeeper Dane Vilas joining opener Alex Davies at the crease.

  3. Division Two round-uppublished at 17:19 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

Here's the latest in our second division games...

Derbyshire have taken a fourth Kent wicket at Derby - where Joe Denly has fallen, bowled by Hardus Viljoen for 106. The hosts are now 308-4.

Northants are also four down but remain in a good position on 127-4 at the Riverside after dismissing Durham for 129 in 39.1 overs. Alex Wakely is 42 not out.

Glamorgan are fighting back at Colwyn Bay, where Warwickshire are 46-2 after dismissing their hosts for 203. Both openers are out - with Will Rhodes caught by Cooke off Graham Wagg for 24 and Dom Sibley lbw to Meschede for 7.

Gloucestershire were recovering well at Bristol, but have slipped to 196-6 against Leicestershire after slipping to 50-3 earlier today. Jack Taylor and Ryan Higgibs have fallen in quick succession. James Bracey remains not out - on 75.

No early alarm bells for Sussex who are 45-0 against Middlesex at Lord's after they bundled the home side out for 169.

  4. dropped catch

Dropped catch off Gregory on 45published at 17:16 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 301-5

Lewis Gregory mistimes a drive off Harry Brook and is dropped by Josh Shaw. Difficult to say how many runs that's going to cost given the run rate, which has sky-rocketed to nearly eight an over in the last 40 minutes.

  5. Davies gets first Lancs boundarypublished at 17:14 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Lancashire 14-2 v Worcestershire 222

We have 18 overs left in the day at Southport, and Worcestershire are just one more wicket away from a bowling bonus point.

They all count in the battle to avoid relegation - they started the match six points ahead of bottom side Lancashire.

Alex Davies hits the first four of the innings but the hosts have a lot of rebuilding work to do.

  6. Gregory on the chargepublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 296-5

Time for Adam Lyth to take a bit of stick from Gregory, as the batsman lofts him down to long off for his third six.

The new ball is still three overs away and cannot come soon enough for White Rose captain David Willey.

The long-suffering Jack Brooks continues at the other end.

  7. 6 runs

Gregory goes big againpublished at 17:09 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 287-5

Lewis Gregory takes two fours off Jack Brooks and lofts the bowler over his head for his third maximum.

Time to get another replacement ball...

  8. Food for thought for Jackspublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Surrey 183-4 v Nottinghamshire

As Mark Stoneman and Will Jacks made quick progress, an interesting scenario which could become reality...

If Jacks is still at the crease at the close of play tonight, he'll be replaced by Ollie Pope first thing on Thursday.

Imagine if Jacks is in the nineties! Cricket can be a ruthless game. But Pope won't bat until the second innings if Jacks gets out in this third session.

  9. 50 runs

50 for Steven Daviespublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 267-5

Davies steers Brooks through point to move to 48 and picks up another four, this time backward of point.

That's his 4th 50 for Somerset in this campaign. Can he better his best this summer of 92 not out?

    Let's leave that for now.

    79 balls and 10 fours.

  10. Gregory attackspublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 263-5

Shot! Lewis Gregory drives Shaw through the off side for four and then picks up another boundary off the next ball with a pull to mid-wicket to move to 18.

This has been the most fluent batting we've seen since here Hildreth's innings this morning.

  11. wicket

WICKET Jones c Mitchell b Tongue 0published at 16:56 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Lancashire 4-2 Worcestershire 222

Josh Tongue has two in the over and Lancashire are in disarray!

It's a six-ball duck for Rob Jones, who's caught by Daryl Mitchell at second slip.

A new ball, with quick bowling is causing the hosts no end of problems and Worcestershire's 222 is already looking better.

  12. wicket

WICKET Hameed c Clarke b Tongue 0published at 16:51 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Lancashire 2-1 v Worcestershire 222

It's a golden duck for Haseeb Hameed.

He tried working it through the on side but toe-edged it and it's a very good, low catch from Joe Clarke.

It's a great ball from Josh Tongue but it's tough to watch Hameed trudge off like that again...

Rob Jones in for Lancashire and they have work to do once again.

  13. Brooks back in the attackpublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 246-5

The bandana is back on and the bowler steams in for his 19th over... Two slips and a gully.

Steven Davies cuts his third ball just past Gary Ballance at point for four to move to 38.

Brooks goes round the wicket and Davies works him for a single through backward point.

Shot! Gregory drills the next ball past the bowler for four. In the air for a bit but that was really motoring.

Half chance at best - maybe not even that.

  14. Lancashire start inningspublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Lancashire v Worcestershire 222

Wayne Parnell opens the bowling for Worcestershire, with Alex Davies and Haseeb Hameed at the crease for Lancashire.

Remember - this is bottom side Lancashire against a Worcestershire team just one place above.

There's a lot at stake... can the Lancs top order get it together?

  15. Division Two round-uppublished at 16:46 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

Here's the latest drama in the second division...

Sussex have had much the better of day one against Middlesex at Lord's - where the hosts have just been dismissed for just 169. Max Holden was left stranded on 50 as last man Steven Finn was bowled by Jofra Archer for 8, to give the bowler figures of 3-34.

Gareth Roderick has been dismissed lbw for 41 by Mohammed Abbas at Bristol (the bowler's third wicket), where Gloucestershire are 161-4 against Leicestershire. James Bracey remains on 61 not out.

Warwickshire are 23-0 against Glamorgan at Colwyn Bay, trailing by just 180 after the hosts were dismissed for 203.

Durham have taken a third wicket at the Riverside, where Northants are 79-3 after a career-best 5-33 helped the visitors dismiss the hosts for 129. The visitors are just 50 runs behind.

Kent have also lost their third wicket, with Heino Kuhn falling lbw to Tony Palladino for 51 and the visitors now have 282-3 against Derbyshire. Joe Denly is still there on 106.

  16. Tough batting day at Lord'spublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Middlesex 169 v Sussex - tea

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex commentator

A very impressive bowling performance from the Sussex seamers, who have exploited the overcast conditions to the full, and backed up the bowlers with excellent catching

Chris Jordan and Jofra Archer both took three wickets, but Ollie Robinson has perhaps been the pick of the Sussex attack. He took two wickets but on another day may have had seven or eight.

Eoin Morgan took 78 balls to score six runs which perhaps illustrates the difficult batting conditions, and Sussex will know there is much hard work to be done in the final session

  17. 6 runs

Gregory tees offpublished at 16:41 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 236-5

Remember the old adage about playing yourself in?

    Not a bit of it!

Lewis Gregory charges down the ground and lofts Adam Lyth over his head to get off the mark with a six!

    That's only his third ball.

    New balls, please.

  18. wicket

WICKET c Vilas b Onions Pennington 2published at 16:38 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Lancashire v Worcestershire 222

Worcestershire are all out for 222 after Dillon Pennington becomes Dane Vilas' fifth catching victim off the bowling of Graham Onions.

Ed Barnard finishes not out on 24.

We have a 10 minute turnaround and Lancashire will get to bat for around 23 overs at Southport.

Worcs captain Brett D'Oliveira stood out with his knock of 65, while Tom Bailey's 4-41 was reward for his fine bowling.

  19. wicket

WICKET Ali b Shaw 89published at 16:36 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 229-5

    Big breakthrough for Yorkshire!

After hardly offering a chance all day, Josh Shaw bowls an absolute jaffa which cleans Azhar Ali up and yorks him for a well-made 89.

    Over to you, Lewis Gregory.

  20. Tongues twitching at Southportpublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

The BBC online team of (from left) Dave Bradley, Charles Taylor and Scott Read look impressively intent and alert as the first day’s play enters the third session at Trafalgar Road, Southport.

It’s now a very pleasant evening here on the west Lancashire coast after a cloudy, overcast morning.

And almost immediately they have a wicket to get their tongues twitching... Appropriately enough, Josh Tongue, who is caught behind to become the fourth victim of the day for both the catcher (Dane Vilas) and the bowler (Tom Bailey).
