  1. Foakes gives Patel headachepublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Surrey 87-3 v Nottinghamshire

Ben Foakes looks in fine fettle for Surrey here, finding the boundary for a fifth time to take him to 32 runs from just 33 balls.

Notts have Samit Patel as captain for the first time - he has a bit of a decision to make here in terms of where to go with his bowling attack.

They're not finding the length they were bowling earlier.

  2. 50 runs

    50 for Brett D'Oliveirapublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Lancashire v Worcestershire 154-5

After seeing teammates Tom Fell and Joe Clarke fall in the thirties, Worcestershire skipper Brett D'Oliveira makes no mistake in reaching his half-century.

He reaches the landmark with a shot down to third man - earning a single - taking 96 balls and hitting seven boundaries.

Lancashire won't be unduly worried for now.

  3. Rain delays play at Chelmsfordpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Essex v Hampshire

No play at Chelmsford, where the field and square remain damp.

But it wasn't always like this.

    Ah, those were the days...

  4. Abell off the markpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 147-3

Abell gets a bit of width from David Willey and nudges him into the off side for his first run after 12 balls faced.

Ali is beaten outside the off stump by a ball that jags wickedly off the seam.

Batting looks like hard work now.

  5. 50 runs

50 for Azhar Alipublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 146-3

Fine effort from the batsman and a crucial one with Hildreth back in the hutch.

He's got off to an excellent start for Somerset, with 202 runs in four innings before this knock.

He gets there in 119 balls with seven fours by tucking a leg side short ball from Fisher behind square.

What do you think of England squad?

Henri Cooke: Pope should be given a prolonged chance at 6, where he bats for Surrey - hopefully with a view to moving up the order as he matures. Selection starting to seem a bit scattergun.

Anon: Happy with 10 of the 11 picked, given who was in the squad & injuries. Just would have batted Vince at 3 on his home ground too and drop everyone else down a place, leaving Rashid out. Not sure we need three spinners.

Dan Conway: I'm not sure bumping up an injured Bairstow to 4 and Stokes and Buttler to 5 and 6 strengthens the batting line-up? Would have like to have seen Vince given another try at 4, no offence Moeen.

  7. Foakes settles for Surreypublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Surrey 58-3 v Nottinghamshire

Ben Foakes times a drive perfectly down for four, taking Surrey to 62-3 at The Oval.

He's on to 12 with Mark Stoneman at the other end on 29.

Notts have the hosts where they want them but won't want to let them off the hook easily - they bring Matt Milnes into their attack for the first time.

  8. Morgan blocking for funpublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Middlesex 83-4 v Sussex

With Middlesex 57-4 at Lord's against Sussex in Division Two, Eoin Morgan has clearly taken it upon himself to slow things down a tad.

The England man is more used to thrashing the ball about in limited-overs games, but here he's managed just ONE run off FIFTY-THREE balls!

Impressive blocking Mr Morgan, and his Middlesex side are now 83-4 with Max Holden doing the scoring.

  9. Five-wicket haul for Luke Procter at the Riversidepublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Durham 129 v Northants

After a bittersweet defeat at home to Middlesex after enforcing the follow-on, Luke Procter has claimed his best ever figures of 5-33 for Northants at Durham, where the hosts have been shot out for just 129 in only 39.1 overs.

  10. wicket

    WICKET Hildreth c Kohler-Cadmore b Willey 81published at 14:24 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 142-3

    Huge breakthrough for Yorkshire!

David Willey gets a bit of away movement off a good length and James Hildreth prods a simple catch to slip.

Could he have left it? Time for Tom Abell to have a bat.

Just 7 runs for Ali at the other end since the break. Is the tide turning?

  11. Division Two round-uppublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

Plenty of drama in the division two games so far today...

After a late start because of rain, Middlesex have slumped to 76-4 against Sussex at Lord's after being 27-0 earlier in the day. Dawid Malan was the last man out, lbw to David Wiese for 6.

Leicestershire are making inroads into the Gloucestershire batting at Bristol where the hosts are struggling on 79-3 after a steady opening partnership of 50 in 22 overs. Miles Hammond, Chris Dent and bhenny Howell were all out for 35 runs between them and Mohammed Abbas has two wickets to date.

Graham Wagg and Chris Cooke are at the crease for Glamorgan, where the hosts are struggling on 118-5 against Warwickshire at Colwyn Bay.

The bowlers are firmly on top at the Riverside where Durham have just been dismissed for 129 by Northants. Luke Procter took 5-33 and Brett Hutton took two, bowling Stuart Poynter for 28, the highest individual score.

Derbyshire have just the one wicket so far, where Kent are 161-1 at Derby, with Zak Crawley on 93 and Joe Denly on 58.

  12. wicket

WICKET Cox lbw Onions 14published at 14:16 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Lancashire v Worcestershire 139-5

Ben Cox tries to work a Graham Onions delivery through the off side but is trapped lbw.

That feels like an important wicket for Lancashire, as Cox and Brett D'Oliveira were starting to rebuild Worcestershire's innings.

The hosts have their tails out at Southport now, but we know it's tough to gauge what a good score is at an out ground.

  13. Ali digs in at headingleypublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 136-2

Azhar Ali will have to wait a bit longer for his next runs as Josh Shaw bowls a tight line outside the off stump and the batsman defends. That's a patient 46 off 104 balls.

Ali tries to nudge a toe-cruncher down the leg side and the ball thuds into the pad. Maiden over.

What do you think of England squad?

Ged Ashton: Bairstow should be given more time to recover.

Adam Johnson: What are the England selectors doing dropping Pope and picking Bairstow. Just a joke. All Pope needed was dropping down the order.

  15. dropped catch

Dropped catch at Headingleypublished at 14:07 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 131-2

A big slice of luck for James Hildreth, who gets a top edge off Jack Brooks which is spilled in the deep on the off side by Matt Fisher.

That's about the only false shot he's played so far and on form - how many more chances will he offer?

  16. wicket

WICKET Patel c Moores b Wood 0published at 14:07 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Surrey 36-3 v Nottinghamshire

Ryan Patel goes without scoring and leaders Surrey are in a spot of bother.

Luke Wood's delivery swings and finds a big edge - which Tom Moores takes neatly.

Surrey bring Ben Foakes in, while Notts have a first bowling point in the bag.

  17. Hildreth attacks for Somersetpublished at 14:05 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 127-2

Josh Shaw surprises Hildreth with a bit of extra bounce, but the batsman manages to control a steer just wide of the slips for four to move on to 73. He takes a couple more runs off the last ball. He has all of Somerset's runs this afternoon so far.

  18. wicket

WICKET Elgar lbw Gurney 8published at 14:00 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Surrey 35-2 v Nottinghamshire

Did it pitch outside? The umpire thinks about it but decides not and gives Dean Elgar out lbw.

It's Harry Gurney with the wicket - he appealed uncharacteristically loudly and was right to do so.

Elgar out for eight and Surrey are 35-2 against Notts.

What do you think of England squad?

    EnglandImage source, Getty Images

Jonny Bairstow has been included in England's squad for the fourth Test against India despite breaking his finger in the third-Test defeat.

He will play as a specialist batsman and Jos Buttler will keep wicket as England look to seal victory in the five-match series.

Sam Curran replaces the injured Chris Woakes while Moeen Ali, who will bat at seven, comes in for Ollie Pope.

Harsh on Pope? Any others you would've considered? All thoughts welcome via #bbccricket on social media.

  20. Rain holds up play at Chelmsfordpublished at 13:55 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

Bad news at Chelmsford, I'm afraid - where another inspection has been announced...
