  1. Trial by spin at Headingleypublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 222-4

Close lbw shout for Adam Lyth against Steve Davies but the batsman survives.

The sun is shining at Headingley after a gloomy start.

Davies tries to loft Lyth away and gets a thick edge to backward square for one.

    Ali defends.

  2. wicket

WICKET Tongue c Vilas b Bailey 17published at 16:27 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Lancashire v Worcestershire 215-9

It's an impressive low, diving catch from Dane Vilas as Josh Tongue edges one behind.

A fourth wicket for Lancashire's Tom Bailey and they have their third bowling point.

Is 215-9 a bit light? Perhaps, but Lancs haven't exactly flourished with the bat this season, have they?

  3. Back under way at The Ovalpublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Surrey 138-4 v Nottinghamshire

Tea is done and dusted and they're back out at The Oval.

It's a bit gloomy in London, so we'll have to keep an eye on that in case it disrupts play.

Samit Patel to bowl for Notts, who are marginally on top at leaders Surrey - who have Mark Stoneman (58*) and Will Jacks (11*) in the middle.

  4. Steady start for Somersetpublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 209-4

Kane Williamson does have 32 wickets at this level to be fair, but he's an occasional bowler these days.

Azhar Ali picks up a single off the first ball and the bowler then tosses one up to Davies who drives and picks up three to end the over.

    Adam Lyth to bowl now.

  5. Pope to return for Surreypublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Surrey 138-4 v Nottinghamshire

    Ollie PopeImage source, Rex Features

A boost for Surrey, who will have batsman Ollie Pope back tomorrow after he was left out of the England squad for the fourth Test against India.

Pope will be able to bat in the second innings at The Oval.

Notts will be relieved he can't help them here, with the hosts 138-4 before the start of the last session.

  6. Play resumes at Headingleypublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 205-4

Where's your money on this one? Mine's staying firmly in my pocket.

Azhar Ali is back in the middle on 82 and Steven Davies has 15.

Not quite as fluent as James Hildreth earlier, but still there and battling hard nonetheless.

Ooh, Kane Williamson is going to start us off with his off spin.

  7. Back under way at Southportpublished at 16:16 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Lancashire v Worcestershire 200-8

They've started the final session at Southport - Worcestershire have reached 200 to get their first batting point.

Can Ed Barnard lead them to a respectable total? Tom Bailey bowling for Lancashire.

  8. Denly century cements Kent’s dominancepublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Derbyshire v Kent 259-2 (64 overs)

Joe Denly’s century’s was reached after 189 balls

Joe Denly started his innings slowly, being the bridesmaid to Zak Crawley’s increasingly nervous bride.

He looked comfortable throughout, and slowly but assuredly gathered pace to get his century during the final ball of the session.

Hardly upstaging the bride, but the bouquet is definitely coming home with Kent’s vice captain.

He found a new partner quickly too, with Heino Kuhn racing to 48* in a partnership of 85. Kent are firmly on top, while Derbyshire are all at sea.

  9. 'Dreadful' Durham on back footpublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Durham 129 v Northants 63-2

This has been yet another dreadful day at home this season from a Durham point of view as they were skittled out for a paltry 129.

And this against a Northants side second bottom and struggling with injuries. The fact Durham made lunch was a bonus but too many of the top order have regularly failed to deliver this season in the championship.

Northants bowled well, with Ben Sanderson and Luke Procter delivering a nagging line and length but too many of the shots were poor. Three players got out playing on while Alex Lees, second top scorer with 25, went LBW shouldering arms.

Procter took 5-33, his best Northants figures, while Sanderson got 3-46. At tea Northants look to be in a decent position at 63-2 and trail by just 66.

  10. Stone and Patel punish Glamorganpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

Glamorgan 203 all out v Warwickshire

    Nick Webb
    BBC Wales Sport

Division Two leaders Warwickshire bowled Glamorgan out for 203 at Colwyn Bay, paceman Olly Stone leading the way with 4-30 on his return to the side.

Captain Jeetan Patel also caused plenty of problems, taking 3-23 with his off-spin as Glamorgan’s innings rarely got going.

Craig Meschede, with 53 not out, managed to nurse Glamorgan to a batting point, adding 31 for the last wicket with Michael Hogan who contributed just a single.

But it seems a well below par total on a small club ground, even with a suggestion of variable bounce on the North Wales coast.

  11. Division Two round-uppublished at 16:08 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

And here's another update on our Division Two games...

Middlesex are struggling on 154-8 against promotion rivals Sussex at Lord's, where Max Holden is leading the rearguard on 47 not out. Chris Jordan has been the most successful wicket taker, with three victims to date, including the last man out, Ollie Rayner, bowled for a 16-ball duck.

James Bracey (48 not out) and Gareth Roderick (40 not out) have helped Gloucestershire recover to 145-3 at tea after slipping to 50-3 this morning against Leicestershire.

Warwickshire will begin their first innings shortly after dismissing Glamorgan for 203 at Colwyn Bay.

    Ollie Stone took 4-28.

Durham are fighting back with two wickets in the first 16 overs to reduce Northants to 63-2 at the Riverside, but the hosts remain in danger with a lead of just 66 runs at tea, having been routed for 129 in the first innings.

Meanwhile at Derby, Kent are sitting pretty at the interval on 259-2 with Joe Denly 101 not out against Derbyshire.

  13. Tea at The Ovalpublished at 16:04 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Surrey 138-4 v Nottinghamshire

The session probably goes to Notts but Surrey would've taken 138-4 a couple hours ago, when they were 36-3.

Mark Stoneman made a half-century but Ben Foakes fell just short - Will Jacks (11*) now alongside Stoneman (58*).

Luke Wood has found some swing for Notts and this one is quite finely poised.

  14. Jacks starts with a bangpublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Surrey 136-4 v Nottinghamshire

Will Jacks isn't in any mood to wait around.

The Surrey batsman gets off the mark with a four and then whacks the first six of the match to go straight into double figures.

Entertainment for The Oval crowd but Notts and Samit Patel won't be cheering.

  15. Interval at Headingleypublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 205-4

A good comeback for Yorkshire after a frustrating morning session, but just the two wickets in the session and Azhar Ali remains on 82. Encouraging start for Davies, who goes in to tea on 15.

The visitors maybe marginally ahead for now.

  16. Kent on top as Joe Denly hits a centurypublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Derbys v Kent 259-2

But it didn't all go Kent's way this afternoon, with Zak Crawley falling just short of a maiden century...

  17. Tea at Southportpublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Lancashire v Worcestershire 199-8

Worcestershire have got to tea at Southport - Ed Barnard (17*) and Josh Tongue (4*) taking the visitors to 199-8.

The loss of Brett D'Oliveira has hit their momentum though they're just a run from a first batting point.

Tom Bailey's 3-31 stands out for Lancashire, who are nicely on top right now.

  18. 100 runs

100 for Joe Denlypublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Derbys v Kent 259-2

The batsman reaches his third Championship ton of the summer for Kent with a cut through point for four off Matt Critchely. Not a bad way to end the afternoon session!

    189 balls and 12 fours.

  19. No play today at Chelmsfordpublished at 15:51 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Essex v Hampshire

    ChelmsfordImage source, Rex Features

    We'll try again tomorrow.

The forecast improved after a drizzly start this morning but there were concerns over damp conditions in the field and in particular on the bowler's run up at the River End

Fingers crossed we get a bit of sunshine tomorrow.

  20. wicket

WICKET Foakes c Patel b Wood 48published at 15:47 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Surrey 126-4 v Nottinghamshire

Ben Foakes will be livid with himself there...

He'd taken the match by the scruff off the neck but toe-ends one straight to Samit Patel at mid-on and goes for 48.

Foakes hadn't scored for a while and it was an anxious shot - credit to Nottinghamshire seamer Luke Wood who has been the pick of the bowlers.
