  2. wicket

WICKET Twohig c Vilas b Lesterpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Lancashire v Worcestershire 193-8

Toby Lester's ball comes off the shoulder of Ben Twohig's bat and is gratefully received by Dane Vilas.

Twohig goes for one off 26 balls - Worcestershire have Josh Tongue in at 10 and he already looks uncomfortable facing Lester.

Can Lancashire finish off the visitors before tea?

  3. Warwickshire keep Glamorgan guessingpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Glamorgan 196-9 v Warwickshire

Runs are not flowing at Colwyn Bay either, where Warwickshire are deploying unusual tactics - given their position in the game to date...

  4. Somerset held back by Yorkshire attackpublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 180-4

Batting is hard work at Headingley at the moment...

Steve Davies gets off the mark with a nudge to fine leg after 15 balls without a run.

That's 10 runs in 3.4 overs from this pair since Abell was dismissed.

  5. Division Two round-uppublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

Plenty to talk about to get you up to speed in Division Two...

Middlesex are struggling against Sussex at Lord's, where the visitors have reduced the hosts to 129-7.

Max Holden is resisting on 31 and will hope for a partnership with Ollie Rayner, who has come to the crease after James Fuller was bowled by Chris Jordan for 17.

Gloucestershire have stabilized to 133-3 after slipping to 50-3 against Leicestershire at Bristol.

James Bracey has 44 and Gareth Roderick has 32.

Glamorgan are struggling just shy of a first batting point against Warwickshire at Colwyn Bay, where they're on 195-9. Four wickets for Ollie Stone so far.

Northants are 41-1 at the Riverside after a career-best 5-33 by Luke Procter helped the visitors to rout Durham for 129 in 39.1 overs.

Kent are 227-2 against Derbyshire at Derby. Zak Crawley fell just short of a maiden first class century, lbw to Tony Palladino for 96. Joe Denly is nearing a century of his own, on 89 and is joined in the middle by Heino Kuhn on 32.

  6. Patel brings Patel into attackpublished at 15:25 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Surrey 124-3 v Nottinghamshire

Captain Samit Patel picks Samit Patel to bowl for the first time.

The Notts skipper clearly feeling change was needed, with Mark Stoneman and Ben Foakes having it all their own way for Surrey.

Foakes on 47, hunting for his half-century.

  7. wicket

WICKET Parnell b Bailey 4published at 15:20 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Lancashire v Worcestershire 183-7

That's two wickets in two overs for Tom Bailey, who uproots Wayne Parnell's middle stump.

Parnell was bamboozled by that ball and fails to add to his one boundary.

Lancashire are into the tail and will be looking at restricting Worcestershire to around 200.

  8. wicket

WICKET Abell c Hodd b Brooks 12published at 15:19 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 170-4

Well, Jack Brooks is certainly making a good impression on his future team mates!

He bowls a perfectly pitched away seamer which Tom Abell edges behind for a 42-ball 12.

Just wasn't, erm, able to kick-start his innings today.

    Steven Davies to bat next.

  9. Somerset rebuild after Hildreth fallspublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 170-3

    Maiden over from Jack Brooks.

Azhar Ali pinches a single and drives Matt Fisher down the ground for two more.

He tries to steer a ball into the leg side but can't evade the fielder.

Shot! Matt Fisher offers a bit of width outside the off stump and Ali drives handsomely for four.

  10. 50 runs

50 for Mark Stonemanpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Surrey 119-3 v Nottinghamshire

It's only a second County Championship 50 of the season for Mark Stoneman, but it comes at a time when his Surrey team needed it.

The opener has seen Rory Burns, Dean Elgar and Ryan Patel fall around him but has hit eight boundaries on his way to the half-century.

His partner Ben Foakes (47*) isn't far away either...

  12. wicket

    WICKET D'Oliveira Croft b Bailey 65published at 15:13 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Lancashire v Worcestershire 177-6

A very impressive knock from Brett D'Oliveira but it's over as he's caught at slip by Steven Croft.

The Lancashire breakthrough comes off the bowling of Tom Bailey, and it's a crucial one.

It's a Southport pitch that's giving a fair bit to the bowlers, so bottom-of-the-table Lancashire will want to put second-bottom Worcestershire to the sword.

  13. Somerset kept in check by the White Rosepublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 163-3

Tom Abell gets a bit of luck with an edge off Matt Fisher which bounces short of third slip and runs away to third man for four.

Abell drives to mid off but can't evade the fielder.

Jack Brooks is back into the attack.

  14. D'Oliveira shows how it's donepublished at 15:08 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Lancashire v Worcestershire 176-5

If Brett D'Oliveira was feeling bad for putting his side into bat at Southport, he's certainly showing his teammates how to do it.

It looked like a good toss to lose early on but Worcestershire skipper D'Oliveira has moved onto a steady 64, with his side looking more solid on 176-5.

Keshav Maharaj into the action for Lancashire, looking for his first County Championship wicket.

  15. Stoneman and Foakes march onpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Surrey 102-3 v Nottinghamshire

Surrey race past the 100 mark and suddenly things don't seem so bad for the Division One leaders.

Mark Stoneman (45*) and Ben Foakes (37) aren't hanging about and are rapidly heading towards half-centuries at The Oval.

Matt Milnes is proving quite expensive with the ball for Notts, who for the first time might be a tad frustrated.

  16. Runs dry up at Headingleypublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Yorkshire v Somerset 157-3

The White Rose have come back strongly this afternoon with the early wicket of James Hildreth, who was batting serenely before the break - and precious few runs from Abell and Ali since.

Tom Abell gets a rare bit of respite from Matt Fisher, who serves up a juicy half volley which the batsman drives through the off side for four. Five dot balls follow.

  17. Crawley’s wait for maiden ton goes onpublished at 15:01 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

    Derbyshire v Kent 195-2 (50 overs)

    Adam Whitty
    BBC Radio Kent at Derby

    Oh, Zak!

The Kent batsman, promoted to opener today, had done marvellously well to get to 96*, his highest first class score. But there, obviously, was another target in sight.

Crawley, 20, drove well on a friendly pitch before being dramatically trapped LBW by the evergreen and hardworking Tony Palladino four short of his ton.

Joe Denly (74*) now leads the Kent ship alongside the experienced Heino Kuhn in a rejigged batting line up.

  19. Division Two round-uppublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

The latest in the division two games so far today...

After a late start because of rain, Middlesex have slumped to 100-6 against Sussex at Lord's after being 27-0 earlier in the day. Eoin Morgan defended gamely for 78 balls but he's been dislodged by Chris Jordan, who had him caught by Ollie Robinson for 6. James Harris has just been dismissed for a duck, caught by Philip Salt off the bowling of Ollie Robinson for a duck.

Leicestershire are making inroads into the Gloucestershire batting at Bristol where the hosts are struggling on 105-3 after a steady opening partnership of 50 in 22 overs. Miles Hammond, Chris Dent and Benny Howell were all out for 35 runs between them and Mohammed Abbas has two wickets to date.

Graham Wagg and Chris Cooke are at the crease for Glamorgan, where the hosts are struggling on 157-7 against Warwickshire at Colwyn Bay - with two wickets each for Keith Barker, Ollie Stone and Jeetan Patel.

Northants are firmly on top at the Riverside where Durham have been dismissed for 129. Luke Procter took a career best 5-33. The visitors are 24-0 in reply.

Derbyshire have just the two wickets so far, where Kent are 192-2 at Derby. Zak Crawley was prized out agonizingly short of a maiden century first class century, falling lbw to Tony Palladino for 96 and Sean Dickson fell early in the day, lbw to Hardus Viljoen for 4.

Joe Denly remains unbeaten on 72.

H: Are we fighting to protect the sanctity of four-day cricket vs slogfests, or are we having a go at Eoin Morgan for digging in and scoring slowly in tough conditions? There's no pleasing some people.

No criticism here - just surprising to see. Middlesex's Morgan is out for six, by the way, from 77 balls...
