    Isabelle Westbury
    Former Middlesex captain at Headingley

After deciding to forego the uncontested toss, Somerset were put into bat by hosts Yorkshire and half an hour in looked to be rueing their decision.

If there was ever an adult education class called ‘stepping up to the mark 101’, your teacher could well be a Mr Zak Crawley.

Crawley has looked elegant a solid he hears his maiden first class century

His team, in need of a win and batting bonus points to help their promotion push, could have faultered after Sean Dickson’s early wicket, but the 6 ft 5 batsman has stood firm.

He has driven wonderfully in an aggressive innings that, thanks to a century stand with Joe Denly (47*), has put Kent in control at lunch.

For most of the time he was at the crease he was going at more than a run a ball. At 76*, will he have a better chance to get his maiden first class ton?
