Another day of Championship action is over, and it's been a great one for Essex, who wrapped up an innings win over Hampshire with seven and a bit sessions to spare.

Simon Harmer took 7-38 - and 12 wickets in the game - as the 2017 champions moved up to third in Division One, pending the outcome of Yorkshire's match against Warwickshire.

There was some notable doubling up with the bat, as Sam Robson and Paul Stirling scored centuries for Middlesex, and Neil Dexter and Hassan Azad did likewise for Leicestershire.

And maybe Jimmy Anderson and James Pattinson had one eye on the Ashes series as they claimed 5-18 and 6-73 for Lancashire and Notts respectively.

Billy Root plays out a maiden from Nathan Sowter at Radlett as he and David Lloyd survive the final 15 overs of play for Glamorgan.

But they face a tough job on day three after Paul Stirling (138) and Sam Robson (107) enabled Middlesex to pas 400 in their first innings.

Root, who pulled Stirling's off-spin away for four in the penultimate over of the day, will resume on 16 not out, and Lloyd has 12.

Glamorgan's first task is to reach 261 and thereby avoid the possibility of following on.

England star James Anderson tore through the Derbyshire batting line-up, posting figures of 5-18 from his 17 overs at the Pattonair County Ground.

Anderson's destructive spell came after Graham Onions took the first three wickets of the day, removing Godleman, Madsen and Lace.

Derbyshire were bowled out for 153 from 51.4 overs, with the unbeaten Leus de Plooy their top scorer on 38.

Lancashire came out to bat with just five overs remaining but were unable to see the day out unscathed, with Keaton Jennings being trapped lbw by Luis Reece.

David Lloyd and Billy Root are in risk-avoidance mode at Radlett with Glamorgan 309 runs in arrears.

They have six overs to survive before the close, and Middlesex are currently operating a seam-spin tactic with Tom Helm and Nathan Sowter bowling in tandem.

lloyd is 11 not out and Root has eight.

So, we have play ongoing in two games.

There are nine overs left at Radlett, where Glamorgan are 100-3 against Middlesex, and Lancashire are going to have to come out and face five overs after bowling out Derbyshire for 153.

Kent looked to be in big trouble after losing five wickets in the morning session, but Zak Crawley's measured century helped steer them to a score of 309.

As the wickets tumbled around him, he finally received some support during the afternoon from Grant Stewart (59), before Harry Podmore's tenth-wicket stand with Matt Milnes added a valuable 55 runs to the total.

James Pattinson was the pick of the Notts bowlers, finishing with figures of 6-73 from his 21 overs.

Notts openers Ben Slater and Ben Duckett safely negotiated the final ten overs and the visitors will begin day two at Tunbridge Wells with all 10 wickets intact.

Gloucestershire took four wickets in the final eight overs at Grace Road to give themselves something to smile about after a tough opening day.

They were on the receiving end as Neil Dexter and Hassan Azad put on 320, a Leicestershire record for the second wicket.

But Azad's dismissal for 137, caught behind off David Payne, sparked a mini-collapse, which also saw Dexter depart for 180.

Leicestershire used two nightwatchmen, but only one of them - Chris Wright - survived to stumps. They are , though, only seven runs short of a fourth batting point.

The umpires decide that a resumption will not be possible at Clifton Park following the third rain interruption since play began half an hour late.

It has been a good day for Warwickshire, who took five wickets for eight runs after Yorkshire were 93-1 at one stage.

Gary Ballance (54) and Will Fraine (42) put on 85, but the middle order fell away until David Willey (46) and Steven Patterson (36*) came together at the fall of the seventh wicket.

Craig Miles (4-32) and Oliver Hannon-Dalby (3-60) were the pick of the Bears attack and they will look to finish off the home side early on day two.

They're not wasting any time at the Nevill Ground, where Notts openers Ben Slater and Ben Duckett are already at the crease.

Harry Podmore and Grant Stewart, fresh from good performances with the bat, will be aiming to remove one, or maybe both of those two Bens, in the remaining seven overs due to be bowled at Tunbridge Wells.

Glamorgan had their two Australians together at Radlett and in-form Marnus Labuschagne has just reached another Championship half-century. But Charlie Hemphrey has now gone lbw to Tim Murtagh for 27 and the Welsh county are 80-2 in reply to Middlesex's 410 all out.

Lancashire are striving to finish off Derbyshire, who are 126-8, but Leus du Plooy and Sam Conners have resisted for 11 overs so far. Jimmy Anderson has 5-18 from 17 overs.

Test Match Special have their 'champagne moments' but we'll settle for this rather more prosaic headline for what we believe to be the best moment of the day so far.

Another interruption at Clifton Park - we think that's the third of the day, following the start of the game being delayed for half an hour.
