    Yorkshire 0-0 v Warwickshire

The first over bowled in a Championship game in York for 128 years is complete and it is a maiden.

Liam Norwell will open up from the other end.

WICKET Denly lbw Pattinson 8published at 11:30 British Summer Time 17 June 2019

    Kent 31-2 v Notts

Joe Denly only lasts 15 balls before being trapped lbw by James Pattinson.

His short-lived partnership with Zak Crawley looked to be steadying the ship after the early loss of Sean Dickson but the Australian bowler has his second victim of the morning.

Denly has been desperately short of runs this season and that won't have enhanced his prospects of being involved in this year's Ashes, which get underway in August.

  6. Division Two round-uppublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 17 June 2019

Middlesex opener Sam Robson has moved into the 90s with a boundary off Marchant de Lange on the second morning against Glamorgan at Radlett. The home side are 164-3 after 57 overs.

Gloucestershire paceman Chadd Sayers has struck an early blow at Grace Road, with opener Paul Horton superbly caught one-handed by diving keeper Gareth Roderick. Leicestershire are 11-1 in the seventh over.

A quick reminder that there will be no play before lunch between Derbyshire and leaders Lancashire.

Essex batsman Dan Lawrence flashes an overpitched delivery from Keith Barker away through the covers for four to bring up a 100 partnership with Ravi Bopara.

  11. Hants turn immediately to spinpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 17 June 2019

    Hampshire 118 v Essex 147-3

Following Simon Harmer's success for Essex on day one, it is perhaps no surprise that Hampshire give the ball to spinner Mason Crane straight away, although he did prove a little expensive on Sunday evening. His first over is tidy enough but three singles carries the Essex total to 150. Ravi Bopara is 52 not out and Dan Lawrence has 35.

After hitting the first ball of the day for four, just two balls later Sean Dickson has gone

The Kent opener edged a James Pattinson delivery behind to Tom Moores and Notts have themselves a wicket inside the first over.

  13. Play under waypublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 17 June 2019

OK, the start is delayed at York and they are inspecting at Derby - but the players are out in the middle in the other four matches and we are good to go.

  14. Fond memories for Bears skipperpublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 17 June 2019

Yorkshire v Warwickshire - start delayed

Apart from being the country’s joint top Championship wicket-taker, Warwickshire captain Jeetan Patel will have one other advantage when he leads the Bears against Yorkshire at York today.

The 38-year-old New Zealand off-spinner knows Clifton Park well, having spent a summer playing club cricket for York when he first came to England in 2003.

"As soon as I saw in the fixture list that we would be playing at York I was really excited," said Patel. "It will be great to go back and reconnect with a lot of friends I made. It's a lovely city and a lovely ground.

“I had an okay season there. I certainly didn't set the world alight but it was great life experience. It was my first time away from home, in a different country and I was having to fend for myself and fortunate to be around a great bunch of lads who looked after me.

He added: "I wasn't on a lot of money but that wasn't what I was there for. What I did was learn about the lifestyle in England which is so different. In New Zealand it's all about cafes and meeting people and friends there, whereas here it's all about going to the pub and sharing stories over a pint.

"I was a youngster learning my trade and wanting to get out and about and give things a go and that summer really grew me as a person.”

  15. Hampshire 'way behind' at Chelmsfordpublished at 10:55 British Summer Time 17 June 2019

    Hampshire 118 v Essex 147-3 (match resumes 11:00)

Second-placed Hampshire have a lot of work to do at Chelmsford after being bowled out in 34 overs on the opening day against Essex.

Coach Adi Birrell admitted at the close that they have a "mountain to climb" in the game, having begun it 26 points behind leaders Somerset, but defended the decision to bat first.

"The stats were the reason we batted first. If you look at the stats of how many teams win here batting first it makes sense," he said.

"We are way behind in the match and we are struggling - but I'm not saying the toss is the reason behind that. It wasn't impossible to bat out there and it wasn't spinning square."

Yorkshire v Warwickshire - start delayed

York Cricket ClubImage source, Rex Features

Sometimes you get absolutely sick of the British weather.

With everything in place for a prompt start, drizzle arrives at Clifton Park and the covers are on.

England's David Willey is back in the Yorkshire side after missing last week's game for family reasons, and young spinner James Logan has been called up to replace Dom Bess, who has returned to parent club Somerset.

Warwickshire are without Henry Brookes because of a hip problem, so Craig Miles and Liam Norwell, signed from Gloucestershire over the winter, are both in the side.

  18. Gloom lifts at Leicesterpublished at 10:46 British Summer Time 17 June 2019

Leicestershire v Gloucestershire (match starts 11:00 BST)

Just 11 overs were possible last week in Leicestershire's unremittingly miserable home game against Middlesex.

But look Foxes fans, there are patches of sky at Grace Road today that are actually blue.

It's a Midlands meteorological miracle - and probably a few other words beginning with 'm' too.

  19. Tough start for promoted pairpublished at 10:43 British Summer Time 17 June 2019

Kent v Nottinghamshire (match starts 11:00 BST)

Kent and Nottinghamshire have undoubtedly found life a little tougher this season after winning promotion from Division Two in 2018.

Peter Moores' Nottinghamshire side are bottom of the table, having failed to win any of their six fixtures so far, and although Kent have lost one game more - four to Notts' three - they are sixth, thanks largely to an eight-wicket win over Warwickshire back in April.

One consolation, however, is that there is no chance of both teams dropping back into the second tier - as only one team will be relegated this season.

Kent have Wiaan Mulder back from a foot injury and also include loan signing Ollie Rayner for the game at Tunbridge Wells, becoming the 900th player to appear for the club since 1806. while the visitors are hoping for a repeat of their 2010 win at Nevill Road.
