WICKET Donald c Beard b Harmer 4published at 14:30 British Summer Time 17 June 2019

    Hampshire 118 & 26-5 v Essex 214

We're looking at the prospect of a second-day finish at Chelmsford as Aneurin Donald tries to slog-sweep a ball outside off stump from Simon Harmer and picks out the fielder at deep mid-wicket.

Hampshire are still 70 short of making Essex bat again as James Fuller comes out to join opener Joe Weatherley, who is nine not out and must be wondering what on earth is going on.

    Yorkshire 80-1 v Warwickshire

They are back out at Clifton Park and paceman Craig Miles has begun his first spell of the game for Warwickshire. Jeetan Patel is carved away for four in his latest over by Will Fraine, who progresses to 31 not out. Gray Ballance has 32 at the other end, and they have so far added 72.

    Kent 146-6 v Notts

It wasn't the best morning for Kent's batsmen at Tunbridge Wells, with five wickets falling for 105 runs before lunch.

This handy little round-up has all the action - look away now Kent fans.

  6. Division Two round-uppublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 17 June 2019

Paul Stirling is into the 90s at Radlett, where Middlesex are 289-4 after 89 overs against Glamorgan.

Leicestershire have yet to lose a wicket after lunch against Gloucestesrhire. They are 126-1 in the 39th over, with Neil Dexter on 84 and Hasan Azad 40 not out.

Division Two leaders Lancashire have decided not to bother with a toss at Derby, where play will begin at 14:30. They will bowl first - and no wonder when they have an attack including Jimmy Anderson, Graham Onions and Saqib Mahmood.

WICKET Northeast st Wheater b Harmer 3published at 14:06 British Summer Time 17 June 2019

    Hampshire 118 & 10-4 v Essex 214

Sam Northeast comes down the track and plays all around a delivery from spinner Simon Harmer.

Keeper Adam Wheater doesn't take the ball cleanly but still has time to scoop it into the stumps.

Two balls later and Rilee Rossouw - having swept his first for four - goes for an undisciplined mow and top edges a catch to Aaron Beard at third man.

    Woeful stuff from the visitors.

  8. Cook worry for Essexpublished at 14:01 British Summer Time 17 June 2019

    Hampshire 118 & 9-2 v Essex 214

Seam bowler Sam Cook goes off four balls into an over for Essex, and Simon Harmer completes it.

It's Jamie Porter on a hat-trick at the start of the next, but Sam Northeast survives, before collecting his first run from the following delivery.

WICKET Mulder lbw Pattinson 13published at 13:56 British Summer Time 17 June 2019

    Kent 124-6 v Notts

Notts' bowling attack is carrying on where it left off before lunch, with James Pattinson claiming the wicket of South African all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, just a quarter of an hour into the afternoon session.

The Australian's delivery stayed low, pinning Mulder lbw and he departs for 13 from 22 balls.

That man Zak Crawley is still staying put for Kent and his latest partner is now Grant Stewart.

  10. Back in 1890published at 13:55 British Summer Time 17 June 2019

    Yorkshire 60-1 v Warwickshire - lunch

York is hosting a Championship game for the first time since June 1890.

But what else was happening in the world at that time?

    • Queen Victoria was in the 53rd year of her reign
    • Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, the Marquess of Salisbury was Prime Minister
    • Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray had just been published
    • Idaho was just a few days away from becoming the 43rd American state
    • Vincent van Gogh was living under the care of Dr Paul Gachet in Auvers-sur-Oise and produced 72 paintings in 70 days before shooting himself the following month
    • Actor Leslie Banks was born - he later played Inspector Slade in The Arsenal Stadium Mystery.

First ball after lunch at Chelmsford and 'Jinx' Rahane pushes forward and edges to the keeper.

Jamie Porter on a hat-trick - but we'll have to wait until his next over to see if he achieves it.

Three balls faced in the game, two ducks. Hampshire's Indian batsman will want to forget this game in a hurry.

Derbyshire v Lancashire - start delayed

Following their latest inspection, the umpires have decided that play can start at 14:30 at Derby.

There hasn't been a toss in any of our other games today - wonder whether Lancashire will follow suit and confirm they wish to bowl first.

  14. Middle and leg, m'lord?published at 13:41 British Summer Time 17 June 2019

    Yorkshire 60-1 v Warwickshire - lunch

The players are taking a break at Clifton Park, so time for a question....

Who was Yorkshire captain the last time they played a Championship match in the city from which the White Rose county takes its name?

To save you looking it up, the answer is Lord Hawke.

Their only previous Championship visit to York was in 1890, when they beat a Kent side including John Pentecost - presumably the inventor of the phrase 'it's not a game, it's a religion' - by eight wickets at Wigginton Road after bowling them out for 46 in the first innings.

Lord Hawke was at the crease as Yorkshire reached 100-2 in their second innings, finishing with 28 not out.

  15. Lunch at Yorkpublished at 13:37 British Summer Time 17 June 2019

    Yorkshire 60-1 v Warwickshire

Liam Norwell completes his 10th over of the morning for Warwickshire, conceding only a single to Will Fraine, and the players head off for a belated lunch.

Fraine (28*) has shared an unbroken stand of 52 with Gary Ballance (23*) since Adam Lyth was caught behind off Oliver Hannon-Dalby early on.

At this stage, perhaps the happiest people inside Clifton Park are the organisers, having witnessed the first Championship action in the city for 128 years.

  16. Robson scores 'deserved' centurypublished at 13:27 British Summer Time 17 June 2019

    Middlesex 272-4 v Glamorgan - lunch

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London commentator

Middlesex dominated the morning with Sam Robson reaching his first Championship century of the season and in doing so, defying a lively pitch and some fine Glamorgan bowling.

The visiting attack has persisted on the off stump in the innings so far and found seam and swing throughout.

Middlesex have dug in, as coach Stuart Law has demanded given recent low first innings scores, and Robson led the way with a determined knock that deserved the three-figure reward.

Paul Stirling was equally stoic in his defence early on but has moved through the gears - in particular before the new ball became available. Glamorgan will hope that the with only four overs on the second ball that they can start the afternoon session well and find reward for their efforts so far.

  17. Fraine lifts the tempopublished at 13:22 British Summer Time 17 June 2019

    Yorkshire 55-1 v Warwickshire

A sudden spurt by Will Fraine, who picks up three fours in Liam Norwell's latest over to progress to 27 not out. The second was slightly fortunate, edged wide of the slips, but the right-hander won't care about that. A boundary is a boundary in the scorebook.

  18. Patel bowls on 'home' groundpublished at 13:19 British Summer Time 17 June 2019

    Yorkshire 43-1 v Warwickshire

Warwickshire skipper Jeetan Patel brings himself on for a short pre-lunch spell at a ground he knows so well, having played for York CC in 2003 (see 10:58 entry).

His first over yields a boundary, cut away by Gary Ballance, who is 19 not out, with Will Fraine on 15.

    Kent 105-5 v Nottinghamshire

Yorkshire 43-1 v Warwickshire (still in play)

    Division Two

Middlesex 272-4 v Glamorgan (day two)

WICKET Alsop lbw Porter 2published at 13:12 British Summer Time 17 June 2019

    Hampshire 118 & 5-1 v Essex 214 - lunch

Jamie Porter steams in from round the wicket and removes Hampshire opener Tom Alsop with the final ball before the lunch interval - yet another lbw victim in a hectic morning at Chelmsford.

Alsop managed scores of only six and two in the game - and someone is going to have to find a way to thrive in conditions which are favouring the bowlers if Hampshire are going to clear the 96-run first-innings deficit with some wickets intact.
