The fourth umpire has come out with the light meter.
Dom Bess gives it plenty of flight and almost reels Abid Ali into making a mistake, the Pakistan opener not quite getting to the pitch of the ball and an inside edge sending it trickling over to the leg side.

There's a lot of noise out there now, a lot of support. England sense they're on the verge of something.
Azhar did signal to his dressing room as if he didn't quite see that delivery. The light is getting darker.
This old ball is starting to move again as Jimmy, like Broad, finds a hint of reverse swing. A good start from Anderson.
Oof! Great start. Anderson bowls that line outside the off stump and Azhar Ali has a nibble. He's lucky to have not nicked it through to Buttler.

Daniel Seal: Wasn't Archer picked for flat wickets like this? All the talk every match is about whether Archer's gonna be picked. Archer, Archer, Archer. He's so overhyped and has been totally ineffective. Why has Wood only had one match this summer?

Here. Comes. Jimmy.
Those drinks seem to have spurred on the the vocal chords of Jos Buttler behind the stumps and Joe Root at slip as they shout encouragement to Dom Bess.
Just an Azhar Ali single from the over.

It's gone a bit flat, but I'm impressed with Abid Ali. He's lined it up well.
Drinks are done. And Bess will continue. He's wicketless from his 10 overs, conceding 19 runs.

It's just got a bit darker...
It's worth looking at the battle Jimmy Anderson had with Abid Ali earlier. The Pakistan opener started to walk down the track to Anderson, so the England paceman responded by digging the ball in short. Cat and mouse.

This is like a junior cricket field.

Stuart Broad tries a bit of everything to keep the batsman thinking and find this breakthrough for England. Round the wicket, yorkers, short and down the leg side. He's a real thinking cricketer.
Root tinkers with his field.
Oh, hello! Reverse swing for Broad to end the over. Encouraging for England.
Time for drinks again in this mammoth session.

That took the inside edge of the bat.
Close for Dom Bess! Again he causes a issues with that quicker ball, as Abid Ali looks to clip off his pads and instead deflects it onto his pads. England were interested for a second, before quickly realising it was bat first.
Where's Jimmy? England need a spark.

More bouncers from Stuart Broad, with the odd surprise fuller delivery in an attempt to bamboozle the batsman.
Another maiden. Pakistan are going at less than two an over.
