Well, that was a more productive day, wasn't it? After the showers of Saturday and Sunday, we got through Monday more or less bone dry (Leicester apart) - and witnessed some excellent cricket.

Somerset's Jamie Overton was undoubtedly Monday's main man - his 120 a maiden first-class ton, helping the Central Group leaders to the brink of victory over Warwickshire as Steve Davies hit 123 as well.

Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire, for whom Dawid Malan hit 219, amassed 400+ totals, while Sussex paceman George Garton registered a career-best 5-26 against Essex.

We will be back here tomorrow to lead you through the final day's play from about 10:30.

  3. Hartley hangs on for Lancspublished at 19:34 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Nottinghamshire 472 v Lancashire 129-6 - close

Peter Trego fires one past the outside edge of Tom Hartley's bat to start the final over of the day. Can he pick up one more wicket for Notts?

Hartley defends the next three safely, then drives down the ground and trots through for a couple.

There are four slips for the final ball, but Hartley negotiates it and reaches stumps on six, with Steven Croft 37 not out.

Ben Slater made 142 for Notts earlier in the day and Lancashire still need to reach 273 to avoid the follow-on.

  4. Postpublished at 19:28 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Nottinghamshire 472 v Lancashire 127-6

Steven Croft runs the ball down to third man and takes two to move on to 37 not out. Nothing else doing in the over. One over left.

  5. Postpublished at 19:26 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Nottinghamshire 472 v Lancashire 125-6

Peter Trego continues and Tom Hartley collects two from his second delivery. Steven Croft obviously trusts his new partner.

But they decide to take two from the final ball of the over as well, so Croft will be the one to face Matt Carter.

  6. Postpublished at 19:21 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Nottinghamshire 472 v Lancashire 121-6

Matt Carter's off-spin is Notts skipper Steven Mullaney's next bowling gambit. Steven Croft has bags of experience, though, and blocks it out. Tom Hartley will be be on strike for the next, though.

    Balderson c Chappell b Trego 8 (Notts 472 v Lancashire 121-6)

    Ah, the impetuosity of youth.

George Balderson's eyes luight up as Peter Trego drops one short, but he doesn't get on top of the ball as he cuts and Zak Chappell takes the catch.

Tom Hartley is the new batsman. Four overs to stumps.

  8. Postpublished at 19:14 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Nottinghamshire 472 v Lancashire 121-5

One game remaining, and after losing the entire second day's play to rain, Lancashire and Notts are doing their best to wring every last bit of action out of this one.

There are six to go at Trent Bridge, with Steven Croft 35 not out and George Balderson on eight for Lancashire.

They need to reach 273 to avoid following on. That'll take some doing, but equally important is using up as much time in this innings as possible..

  9. Stumps at Sophia Gardenspublished at 19:11 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Glamorgan 116 & 23-0 v Gloucestershire 181

Glamorgan's openers - Nick Selman (17no) and Charlie Hemphrey (6no) - have dug in for 14 twilight overs since bowling Gloucestershire out, which will prove a real frustration for the visitors.

But they will need to repeat that application on the final day with Glos still leading by 42 runs and, potentially, with another innings to come.

Glamorgan's bowlers, who shared the Gloucestershire wickets among all five of them, have shown there is plenty for a bowler to get out of this pitch.

And an early avalanche of wickets on day four would give the visitors a sniff of victory.

  10. Alsop completes fiftypublished at 19:01 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Surrey 172 v Hampshire 198-3 - close

    Tom AlsopImage source, Rex Features

Tom Alsop reached a 128-ball fifty in the final over of play at Arundel Castle with two runs forced away off the back foot from the leg-spin of Scott Borthwick.

He ends the day on 52 not out as he and Harry Came see out the final five and a bit overs following the dismissal of Sam Northeast for 81.

This one looks like a draw - but nothing should be taken for granted on a cricket pitch.

  11. Close of play at Northamptonpublished at 18:58 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Worcs 219 &177-6 v Northants 212

    Tom Fell.Image source, Getty Images

Advantage who? Good question. You go... Okay, I will...

Northants turned their overnight 90-4 into a par 212 thanks mainly to tail-enders Gareth Berg (45 off 121 balls) and Nathan Buck (32 off 50 balls) who played the patient and slightly less patient roles respectively.

That left them seven runs adrift but a superb 81no from Tom Fell (pictured) has regained the momentum for Worcestershire who end day three 184 runs ahead and with four wickets in hand.

The Pears will have last week's draw with Glamorgan - when they arguably batted a little bit longer than they needed to before declaring - firmly at the front of their minds.

  12. Derbyshire close to saving follow-onpublished at 18:54 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Yorkshire 400-6 dec v Derbyshire 198-6

Looks like Derbyshire are going to do it - avoid the possibility of following on, that is.

Anuj Dal hit three successive fours in the 67th over, bowled by Duanne Olivier, all of them pulled through the leg-side.

Three overs later and that's it for day three, with the light fading. Dal has 15 and Matt Critchley is on 31 - they need three more runs to ensure Yorkshire will have to bat in the third innings of the game.

WICKETpublished at 18:51 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Vilas c Moores b Chappell 26 (Lancs 114-5 v Notts 472)

Well, Notts are really in with a sniff now, aren't they?

Lancashire skipper Dane Vilas becomes Zak Chappell's third victim, edging a quality ball to wicketkeeper Tom Moores - and the Red Rose will be wanting the umpires to take the teams off sharpish.

    Glamorgan 116 & 12-0 v Gloucestershire 181

Glamorgan are in no rush at Sophia Gardens at the start of their second innings, keen to bat out this short evening session without loss.

Nick Selman (8no) and Charlie Hemphrey (4no) have guided them to 12-0 after nine overs.

  15. Finch falls to final deliverypublished at 18:44 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Sussex 194 & 57-2 v Essex 140 - close

    Harry FinchImage source, Rex Features

Essex have four slips in place for the final ball of the day but none of them are needed as Harry Finch glances down the leg-side into the waiting gloves of keeper Adam Wheater.

Finch cannot believe it - he looks to the skies, he looks at his bat and all partner Phil Salt can do is wait for him as he slowly makes his way towards the pavilion.

Salt will start the final day on 18 not out, with Sussex 111 in front.

Performance of the day came from Sussex fast bowler George Garton, who produced a career-best 5-26.

    Northeast lbw Virdi 81 (Surrey 172 v Hampshire 189-3)

Sam Northeast misses out on a hundred at Arundel - in this innings at least - as he tries to pull a ball from spinner Amar Virdi which keeps low and hits him in front.

He added 121 in 33 overs with Tom Alsop, who has 43, and there are five to go after this one.

    Kent 146-5 v Middlesex 269

    Joe Denly.Image source, Getty Images

Joe Denly remains unbeaten on 70 as Kent end day three on 146-5. It's going to take a rush of Middlesex wickets on Tuesday morning if there's going to be a winner in this one.

That and a quick Middlesex declaration in response would seem the only way this South Group clash won't end in a draw.

Middlesex's Robbie White will likely have a sleepless night, reliving how he managed to edge to slip while on 99 as he helped the visitors post 269 after a rain-hit couple of days.

Miguel Cummins has struck three times to hamper Kent's reply but Denly's accomplished knock leaves a share of the spoils looking the likeliest of outcomes.

Derbyshire need 201 to avoid the follow-on and probably ensure the game ends in a draw - but will they get there?

Harvey Hosein stares at the floor in disappointment after playing at a ball from Duanne Olivier that he should have left and edging to Jonny Bairstow behind stumps.
