    Surrey 172 v Hampshire 120-2

Sam Northeast and Tom Alsop have posted a fifty partnership for Hampshire at Arundel Castle.

Skipper Northeast is leading from the front with five fours in his 39 not out, and Alsop is on 21.

Spinner Amar Virdi is back into the attack for Surrey.

    Billings c Simpson b Cummins 20 (Kent 96-4 v Middlesex 269)

    Miguel Cummins.Image source, Getty Images

A third wicket for Miguel Cummins - the Kent batsmen just don't know how to handle the West Indies paceman.

It's almost an identikit delivery to the one that got Marcus O'Riordan earlier as it rises up and Sam Billings can only help it on its way into John Simpson's hands behind the stumps.

  3. Bears battlingpublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Warks 121 & 81-5 v Somerset

If Warwickshire had produced this sort of diligence from the off, they might not be in so much of a mess in this game but Will Rhodes and Alex Thomson are asking a few questions of the Somerset attack here.

The Bears are virtually out of the reckoning for this competition now but Rhodes is showing a captain's pride with a knock that could yet take this to the fourth day.

  4. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    du Plooy c Kohler-Cadmore b Patterson 30 (Yorkshire 400-6 dec v Derbyshire 126-3)

Jonny Bairstow is standing up to the stumps for Steven Patterson, who takes his second wicket as Leus du Plooy edges low to first slip.

He put on 68 with Billy Godleman, who has now been joined in the middle by Matt Critchley.

Yorkshire will really be turning up the afterburner now,.

  5. WICKETpublished at 17:11 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Quinn b Garton 13 (Sussex 194 v Essex 140)

    George GartonImage source, Rex Features

Career-best figures for George Garton as a rapid inswinger clatters into Matt Quinn's stumps and Essex concede a 54-run first innings lead.

The left-armer finished with 5-26 and it's been a high-quality effort, with Sir Alastair Cook among his victims.

Is there time enough left in this game for either side to force a win?

  6. 50 runs

50 for Fellpublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Worcs 219 & 111-2 v Northants 212

Worcestershire perhaps fly under the radar when it comes to discussions about potential winners of this competition but they are unbeaten thus far and impressing again at Northants.

Each of their top order has contributed this summer and today it's Tom Fell's turn, a single giving the 26-year-old a nerveless half-century at Wantage Road that is helping the Pears accumulate a valuable lead.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Bohannon c and b Chappell 1 (Notts 472 v Lancashire 37-3)

Two wickets in five balls for Notts as Josh Bohannon checks a drive and presents a comfortable return catch to Zak Chappell.

Lancashire need 273 to avoid the follow-on and there's a long way off as Dane Vilas comes to the crease.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Davies c Moores b Trego 26 (Notts 472 v Lancashire 37-2)

Peter Trego is into his sixth over and there's a beauty which takes the edge of Alex Davies' bat and Tom Moores barely has to move before taking the catch. Josh Bohannon and Liam Livingstone are now together and this could be a testing final period of the day for Lancashire.

  9. 50 runs

for Billy Godlemanpublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Yorkshire 400-6 dec v Derbyshire 120-2

    Billy GodlemanImage source, Rex Features

Derbyshire captain Billy Godleman has become a very dependable batsman and reaches his second fifty of the season with a deft late cut for four, using the pace on offer from Duanne Olivier.

It has taken him 116 balls and included 10 boundaries - and Derbyshire are looking good in their bid to reach 201 and thereby guarantee that they can't be asked to follow-on.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Harmer lbw Claydon 17 (Sussex 194 v Essex 121-9)

Sussex are going to be batting for the second time today in the not too distant future.

Simon Harmer tries to work a ball from Mitch Claydon to leg and is lbw, the ninth Essex wicket to fall.

The 2019 county champions don't have batting days like this very often, only four batsmen have reached double figures.

  11. wicket

I'd given up hope of a result in this one after a day and a half without play all told but that might have been premature on my behalf.

There's not been a fat lot of batting quality to write home about in south Wales and that trend continues with this wicket, Gareth Roderick caught behind after swiping right quicker than I can do on my phone.

Gloucestershire still with the advantage though.

  12. Postpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Warks 121 & 63-5 v Somerset 413-9

The wicket of Warwickshire skipper Will Rhodes is the key to Somerset wrapping this up with a day to spare, you feel.

Somerset are throwing everything at him but the Bears skipper has compiled an almost faultless 22 from 77 balls.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Beard c Finch b Garton 0 (Sussex 194 v Essex 121-8)

This is great stuff from George Garton.

A short ball is far too good for Aaron Beard, who is turned almost square and edges to Harry Finch at second slip.

Four wickets now for the young left-armer.

  14. Postpublished at 16:46 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Glos 124-5 v Glamorgan 116

Tom Lace is out for a debut 42 for Gloucestershire as Graham Wagg picks up his third wicket of the day courtesy of a nick behind.

But the visitors have already passed Glamorgan's total of 116 and have five wickets in hand. Bat out then bowl 'em out will be the Glos' plan.

  15. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:42 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Jennings c Hameed b Chappell 10 (Notts 472 v Lancashire 23-1)

Lancashire lose their first wicket at Trent Bridge as Keaton Jennings edges an angled delivery from Zak Chappell and Haseeb Hameed moves to his left from third slip to take the catch.

Jennings can hardly believe it, and stares down the pitch for several seconds, before leaving the scene.

Alex Davies has three boundaries so far in his 13 not out, and Josh Bohannon is the new batsman.

So we have action in eight of our nine games - play at Leicester was abandoned for the day after just 8.5 overs of action. Stay with us for regular updates right through to the close,.

  17. Hants look to Northeastpublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Surrey 172 v Hampshire 83-2

Hampshire skipper Sam Northeast is out there in the middle at Arundel after Joe Weatherley fell to the final ball before tea and he's looking good so far.

The former Kent batsman whips spinner Amar Virdi away for four and then produces a glorious straight drive off Matt Dunn as he quickly progresses to 13 not out.

  18. wicket

WICKETSpublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Burgess c Abell b Davey 13 & Bresnan c Hildreth b Davey 0 (Warks 121 & 58-5 v Somerset 413-9)

Two of them in two balls for Josh Davey and he's on a hat-trick!

He almost gets it as well but Alex Thomson's part-bat, part-pad prod falls just shy of Tom Banton at short leg.

More poor batting from a Warwickshire point of view even if Somerset are not letting them breathe - Michael Burgess drives straight at Tom Abell and Tim Bresnan is out for a golden duck after nicking to first slip.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:34 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Leaning c Holden b Bamber 4 (Kent 57-3 v Middlesex 269)

They are back at Canterbury as well - but Jack Leaning was not at the crease for long after tea. Three balls actually.

He tries a cover drive off Ethan Bamber but does not quite connect properly and Max Holden takes the catch at point.

Another couple of wickets for Middlesex and they'll be getting interested...

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Walter b Garton 33 (Sussex 194 v Essex 119-7)

First ball after tea, Paul Walter attempts an unconvincing drive, the ball nips back between bat and pad and his innings is over.

Three wickets now for Garton, who is looking distinctly lively.Aaron Beard joins Simon Harmer, who is 15 not out.
