  1. Delayed start at Arundelpublished at 10:57 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Surrey 130-8 v Hampshire

It's looking good around the country but there will be a delay at Arundel Castle where Hampshire - the 'home side' - are hoping to polish off Surrey's first innings. Hope it's not a long one.

  2. Somerset 'in a good position' - Kerrpublished at 10:54 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

Warwickshire 121 v Somerset 214-6 - at close on day two

Of all 18 sides in action in this third round of Bob Willis Trophy fixtures, Somerset appear to be in the best position to force a victory - and head coach Jason Kerr is confident of a third successive win.

Steve Davies' unbeaten half-century has helped the Central Group leaders establish a lead of 93 at Edgbaston and they resume on 214-6 on Monday morning, having previously skittled Warwickshire for 121.

Kerr said: "It was a challenging day (on Sunday) for the groundstaff and umpires but we are in a good position, 100 ahead with wickets in hand on a pitch which is still offering something to bowlers.

"We saw in the last session that Tim Bresnan was still getting some movement so hopefully that will be the case when we bowl again."

It's been a frustrating couple of days for our BBC local radio commentators as well as players, coaches, fans following the games remotely etc because of rain interruptions to play.

  4. Malan 'shows why Yorkshire signed him'published at 10:48 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

Yorkshire 288-4 v Derbyshire - play due to start at 11:00 BST

Yorkshire head coach Andrew Gale acknowledged it would be difficult to formulate a tactical plan for the final two days against Derbyshire because so much time has been lost to rain at Headingley.

Dawid Malan hit two fours in the one over of play possible on Sunday to advance to 153 not out.

"It’s the reason why we signed him - you lose a couple of quick wickets and your experienced player plays the situation nicely," said Gale.

“It’s hard to know how we’ll play it from here. It just depends on how much time we lose moving forwards. The forecast looks a bit mixed.”

  5. 'I don't need a rest' - Stevenspublished at 10:44 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

Middlesex 123-6 v Kent - play due to start at 11:00

It's a packed schedule for county cricketers this summer after the four-month delay to the start of the season and some head coaches are rotating their squads to keep everyone fresh.

But after taking his 800th first-class wicket on Sunday, 44-year-old Darren Stevens made it clear he doesn't need a rest.

"I'm feeling good and strong. At my age you get through your niggles as well as you can. I want to play every game if I can, including the 10 T20s," the Kent all-rounder said.

  6. Pitch favoured seamers - Maynardpublished at 10:40 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

Glamorgan 80-5 v Gloucestershire - play due to start 11:00 BST

Glamorgan head coach Matthew Maynard admitted it had been a tough day for his batsmen after they were put in by Gloucestershire at Cardiff.

Only six boundaries were struck in the 48 overs faced on day two following Saturday's total wash-out.

"Before lunch it was just trying to get through, the Gloucester bowlers held a good full length and there was a bit in the pitch as you'd expect having been under covers, with some swing as well," Maynard told BBC Sport Wales.

"The way our openers got through to lunch was rather pleasing, but they tried to press on and chose a couple of balls that weren't full enough to drive."

  7. Scriven opens account for Hantspublished at 10:37 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

Surrey 130-8 v Hampshire - play due to start at 11:00 BST

Hampshire seam bowler Tom Scriven enjoyed a special moment on day two at Arundel Castle as he claimed his first wicket in a red-ball game.

Scriven had Surrey's Jamie Smith caught behind after earlier dropping a chance of his own bowling, offered by the same batsman.

"It was a nice ball. It had a bit of late shape and it got him driving which is what I wanted him to do. I thought I bowled nicely," the 21-year-old said.

“It is a shame that a lot of this game has been taken out by the weather."

Not what we wanted to hear from BBC forecaster Simon King - but things are looking promising for some prompt starts and let's hope there will be 'windows of opportunity' for play at all nine grounds.

Rainy days and Mondays may always get The Carpenters down - but we are optimistic souls.

OK, there were only about 260 overs bowled in our nine games yesterday instead of the 800 plus that there should have been.

We still believe, though, that one or two exciting finishes can be contrived over the next two days.

Welcome to our coverage of Bob Willis Trophy round three, day three. Play is scheduled to start at 11:00.
