  1. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Clarke b Balderson 57 (Nottinghamshire 373-4 v Lancashire)

Joe Clarke tries to work George Balderson to leg, misses and is bowled,.

Notts are presumably looking to collect the fifth batting point and then declare.

Peter Trego is the new man in, so that might not take them very long.

    Glos 38-2 v Glamorgan

In among that flurry of action, there's a wicket to tell you about at Sophia Gardens where Ben Charlesworth was trapped lbw by Graham Wagg for eight.

Tom Lace, in his first innings since joining from Middlesex, joins Graeme van Buuren at the crease for Gloucestershire who still look in control after their bowlers' efforts.

  3. Declaration by Somersetpublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Warks 121 v Somerset 413-9

Somerset decide that a lead of 292 is going to be sufficient at Edgbaston.

Steve Davies finishes unbeaten on 123, marginally ahead of Jamie Overton's 120 although the latter took far fewer balls!

A big challenge now for Warwickshire with the bat - and if they are looking hopefully upwards, there's little in what currently appear clear Birmingham skies to give them any encouragement on that score.

  4. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    A Cook lbw Garton 20 (Sussex 194 v Essex 50-4)

    George GartonImage source, PA Media

Great delivery by George Garton and it brings him the prized wicket of Sir Alastair Cook, who can have no complaints about that lbw decision.

There may have been a little swing from leg to off and Cook plays fractionally outside it, without much foot movement.

  5. Postpublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Yorkshire 400-6 dec v Derbyshire 51-0

Billy Godleman nudges Jordan Thompson away for a couple to post a 50 partnership with Tom Wood. Exactly what Derbyshire required after Yorkshire declared before lunch.

Mind you, it's a good job Godleman got an inside edge on that one - judging by Thompson's 'throw hands in the air' gesture. He has 17 and Wood has 22.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Cummins b Klaassen 1 (Middlesex 250-9 v Kent)

Can't keep up with all these wickets at the moment! Here's another...

Fred Klaassen removes Miguel Cummins' off stump and Kent are on the brink of finally having a bat almost halfway through the third day at Canterbury.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    J Overton c Burgess b Bresnan 120 (Somerset 410-9 v Warks 121)

So ends a remarkable innings from Jamie Overton - 120 from 92 balls.

He tries for an umpteenth big hit but flashes Tim Bresnan behind to wicketkeeper Michael Burgess.

Nonetheless, a stunning career-best knock from the 26-year-old number ten, a county record for that position - and a partnership of 180 with Steve Davies, who is still going strong on 122!

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:23 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Harris b Stevens 41 (Middlesex 249-8 v Kent)

An absolute stonker of a ball from Darren Stevens penetrates James Harris' defences and clean bowls him - crash goes the off stump. A beauty.

  9. 50 runs

for Joe Clarkepublished at 14:21 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Nottinghamshire 358-3 v Lancashire

Easy pickings for Joe Clarke who completes his first Bob Willis Trophy half-century with four from a leg-stump half-volley by Tom Bailey.

It has taken him 89 balls and contained nine boundaries in all. Notts also have their fourth batting point.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Libby c Vasconcelos b Buck 3 (Worcs 219 & 11-1 v Northants 212)

An important early wicket for Northants at Wantage Road as Worcestershire's Jake Libby falls cheaply for the second successive innings.

Libby made a career-best 184 against Glamorgan last time out but has gone for a duck and now three here.

Like the first innings, it's another poor dismissal, edging recklessly to Ricardo Vasconcelos at slip as Nathan Buck adds to the three wickets he picked up in the Pears' first innings.

    Sussex 194 v Essex 41-3

    Alastair CookImage source, Rex Features

Essex are trying to rebuild and have their two senior batsmen at the crease, former skipper Ryan ten Doeschate and Sir Alastair Cook.

Cook collects the first boundary of his innings with a short-arm pull off George Garton, and ten Doeschate accepts a free gift in the left-armer's next over as he puts away an angled full toss.

  12. Surrey all out at Arundelpublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Surrey 172 v Hampshire

Mason Crane has done the job for Hampshire at Arundel Castle.

A perfectly flighted leg break is too good for Amar Virdi, who stretched forward and is stumped as it turns past the outside edge.

Crane takes 2-8 from four overs, but all-rounder Ian Holland takes the bowling plaudits for his 6-60.

  13. Postpublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Kent v Middlesex 244-7

Kent are really struggling to see off Middlesex's lower order at Canterbury.

Resuming at 123-6 this morning, they would have hoped to be batting now but Robbie White - who fell agonisingly short of a century on 99 before lunch - and now James Harris (40no) have utterly frustrated them.

  14. Postpublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Nottinghamshire 352-3 v Lancashire

Good news from Trent Bridge - play will resume at 14:15 providing there is no more rain. Joe Clarke was 47 not out at lunch, with Steven Mullaney on five.

  15. 100 runs

100 for Jamie Overtonpublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Warks 121 v Somerset 378-8

You won't see many quicker, better or hard-hitting county centuries than that. And from a number ten batsman. Indeed the highest number ten score in Somerset history. Unbelievable.

Absolutely sensational from Jamie Overton, who has smashed his previous career first-class best of 68.

He gets over the line with a tidy single and punches the air in jubilation. That's 100 off 84 balls in just over two hours, featuring 13 fours and five sixes. Brutal.

Somerset will surely regret losing him to Surrey at the end of this season...

    Warks 121 v Somerset 373-8

4, 4, 0, 4, 1, 4 - those are how the first six deliveries to Jamie Overton have gone after lunch. Astounding.

He's on 98no off 80 balls - can he join Steve Davies in the century club for Somerset at Edgbaston?

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Morkel lbw Crane 33

Morne Morkel enjoyed himself against Hampshire's seamers - especially Ian Holland - but his innings has been ended by Mason Crane.

The leg-spinner hurried one onto the tall left-hander, who did not get far enough forward, and the lbw decision was a formality.

Amar Virdi is Surrey's number 11.

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Lawrence c Brown b Garton 6 (Sussex 194 v Essex 29-3)

Sussex strike early after lunch and that's a fine delivery by left-armer George Garton, which lifts appreciably on Dan Lawrence, who edges to the keeper.

Essex are in a bit of trouble her, but Alastair Cook is still there at the other end, with six not out to his name.

  19. Early finish at Leicesterpublished at 13:55 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

    Durham 250-7 v Leicestershire - close

Everyone must be so frustrated at Grace Road.

Just 8.5 overs bowled today before rain arrived and the umpires Neil Mallender and Nick Cook have decided conditions are so bad that no further play will be possible today.

With one day to go, this looks like a certain draw - unless the captains can agree on forfeits to turn it into a one innings game.

  20. Postpublished at 13:54 British Summer Time 17 August 2020

Players are beginning to trickle out for the afternoon sessions at several of our games.

Hampshire v Surrey, of course, is already under way, while Nottinghamshire and Lancashire are delayed by the rain at Trent Bridge.

The East Midlands seems to be getting the brunt of the bad weather today as it's not been great at Grace Road, Leicester, either...
